Hello, can one apply to university of Hull without going through UCAS? Upon trying to apply to Hull, I was directed to UCAS and have now filled out the application, but before submitting, I have to pay a whopping £22. Can this be bypassed? |

sammyp01: You should go ahead and extend your POF to be safe. Away from the topic, isn’t it bothersome that folks who did their biometrics from 4th April haven’t received their visa? Prior to this, the average time was like 8-10 working days, now it’s literally getting past the stipulated 15 working days stated by the home office. Is there any reason for this delay?? Been asking also if anyone has gotten their visa since after Easter? |

Guys already in the UK, I intend coming with my family (I, my spouse, my 6month old and 2 years old). I have heard of various difficulties finding accommodation as an International student in the UK. 1). What is really the problem? 2). Is there an easy way out, like giving the landlord 2 or 3months rent as deposit? 3). Those that succeeded in relocating with their families, please how did you guys do it? Please help me out 1 Like |

Solatium: Everything is not on the negative as many of you have been portraying. Every country has its own challenges for new immigrants but those challenges can be overcome. Let me tell you my own motivation. I was privileged to have been taught Virology by a Nigerian Professor who retired from one of the Universities in Scotland and returned back home. He was later contracted by 3 different Federal Universities as adjunct lecturer to teach Virology. At the age of 74, he still managed to cover these three Universities and others were also looking for his services. They was a time we were to do Viral culture using a13 day old chick embryo but we could n't because the department could not provide to him all the necessary materials for the exercise and at the end of it we ended up just with the various theoretical aspects of virology culture. This retired Nigerian Scottish Prof kept telling us about the possibilities of getting a Scholarship that can enable one move to the Western world and acquire quality education if one cannot fund his study overseas or else we and others end up as theoritical Scientists. That because of his quality that's why even at retirement he is been sorted after by several high institutions for his services. At my Federal University then he was the only Virologist in the whole Faculty and that can also successfully carry out all different tissue viral culture. Remember he was even retired but his quality was still sort after. Now, 2019, 2020 to present, Sars-cov2 pandemic hit the world, do you know Nigeria had only very few molecular scientists across the whole country ? also less than 0.001 % could even sequence the virus we had in Nigeria. From North to South out of the 174 both Federal , state and privately owned universities only about 1 or maybe 2 have a molecular lab that can handle any identification and even try to sequence the virus to know the strain circulating in Nigeria. You heard Delta variant and Omicron virant of cov-sar-2 identified by other countries, does it mean in Nigeria we had no different virant ? No, but Lack of capacity and quality man power to handle all this things. Now, this lack of capacity runs in every sector of the nation and that's why you see why we as a nation find ourselves were we are. So I espected you to Only mention quality education as one positive thing that you think. 8 Likes 2 Shares |

We all would eventually walk the part that we have chosen, there is absolutely no bed of roses anywhere in the world and you have to make the most of whatever circumstance you find yourself in. I have 3 kids, I was paying an average of N1.1M per term for school in Nigeria, for all three kids, and this to some is a lot while to others its small fires, to each his/her own. When I inspected schools in the Uk, and compared public schools in the UK to the private school I was paying for, the difference in facilities and tutoring was quite glaring. In the business term, thats a saving of N1.1M for me. Would I be bothered if I get taxed extra because my kids now go to a better school? Hell NO. All three are in public schools in the UK now, something I cant try here in Nigeria. My last, never loved school, all of a sudden he is always eager to go to school now, my daughter is excelling in maths, a subject her teacher always complained about in Nigeria. My son started football lessons, and he absolutely loves it, swimming is also done in-between. Obviously, the UK is not a bed of glittering roses, you would have to trade money for quality living, work your ass off to make ends met, but the beneficiary of all the hustle would be your children. A lot of money is involved in getting settled in the UK, for some its their entire life savings, and for some its just a tiny bit of savings, while some would end up borrowing for the same venture. They usually say, the end should justify the means, but you need to work smart and work hard. You would be amazed by how much you would save with the right information. Hear say wont get you far, regardless of the situation, people would always have differences in their thought process. The quality of life in Nigeria has been degraded by a lot, even in wealth, your average life expectancy in Nigeria is not guaranteed at 50. Some few weeks ago, millionaires and billionaires were groaning because of the non availability of diesel, it affected everyone. Billioniares literally have to drive in long convoy's and bullet proof cars to avoid stories that touch, their close family have to do same . The list is endless, the UK is an opportunity to try another way of life and compromise on a few things here in Nigeria. The reality is that, not everyone would be succesful, but it is worth the try. Absolutely better than doing nothing. Here in Nigeria, you still have to hustle, and work smart, so why not the Uk. What is being told, is so you prepare yourself for the unexpected, the internet should be your best buddy if you intend to relocate, every single resource is in there. My dad left the UK in 1975, he was always getting sick because of the cold. He worked for the department of education , and I shit you not, he is still getting his pension. Obviously its paltry, but would you believe a system paying pension to someone that left the system 47 years ago? This is why some are craving it. We can argue all we want but we cant compare both systems, yes, you get taxed a lot but your quality of life is greatly improved, and you would obviously see the reasons why you paying the tax. This place was started to help people have a clear view of how to go about studying in the Uk and remaining in the Uk, we can make inputs on what people should prepare themselves for, lots of inputs. Let the focus of the thread remain about studying in the Uk. 59 Likes 4 Shares |

ensamy: Some of you will still not come out with good grades if you school abroad, you don't even know what drives you,you expect me to come here and tell you what motivates you to move? You mentioned Quality education,is our education not qualitative? i know you will say Yes,but before you go with that irrelevant thought that has been ingrained in your brain. Remember so many Nigerian doctor's on NHS payroll who all studied back at home. Remember several professionals in UK whose educations were all acquired in Nigeria, they only seat a Professional course of around 6 months. if their education are all washed up will they be able to pass and perform excellently well? Small piking still dey worry you. You need to embrace logical thinking. You are not sound for the kind of argument you want to engage in. No apology 1 Like |
