Kondolisticated:it resembles the noni fruit which is a native of Australia, Asia and the Polynesian islands. The fruit is roughly the size of a mango and is normally eaten for its potential health benefits, rather than its taste. Noni, otherwise known by many different names worldwide, including the great moringa, Indian mulberry, dog dumpling, and pace, is related to the coffee bean plant and is native throughout South East Asia and Australasia is cultivated throughout the tropics. The tree carries fruit throughout the year, and the fruit tends to have a very pungent odour when ripening (also known as the cheese fruit or vomit fruit). Despite the smell, the fruit is high in fibre, vitamin A, protein, iron, and calcium and is the staple diet on many Pacific Islands. The fruit can either be cooked into a stew or eaten raw with salt. But please OP,what does the fruit taste of. And does a cross section of it look like. These can help better determine the proper name of the fruit. 15 Likes 4 Shares

While searching, I found the name for a popular fruit in Nigeria. Locally called Ube, is Safou. One of the most distinctive features about safou is the way that the fruit have a texture like butter when they are cooked. This texture is why the fruit is sometimes referred to as butterfruit. Safou is an evergreen tree found in the humid tropical forests of Africa, as far south as Angola and as far north as Nigeria. The fruits are also known as African pears and are oblong dark blue to violet fruits up to 14cm in length, with pale green flesh inside. These fatty fruits have been said to have the ability to end starvation in Africa, as 48% of the fruit is made up of essential fatty acids, amino acids, Vitamins, and triglycerides. They have estimated that a one-hectare plantation would produce 7-8 tons of oil, and all parts of the plant can be used. https://listverse.com/2011/07/08/top-20-fruits-you-probably-dont-know/ 34 Likes 5 Shares

Also found another fruit. Not sure what it is called in Nigeria though. The ackee is another member of the soapberry family, much like the longan and the lychee. It is a tricky fruit to eat, because if it is not eaten properly, the fruit can lead to vomiting, a coma or even death. The only edible part of the fruit is the yellow flesh that surrounds the seeds. This part can also only be eaten when the fruit has turned red and split open. However, some who have tried the fruit do claim that it is worth the risk. https://listverse.com/2011/07/08/top-20-fruits-you-probably-dont-know/ 9 Likes 2 Shares

Kobojunkie: No, that's not the tree. The tree is just like a normal tree and not flower like. When you pluck the head as it is on the pictures, you use your fingers to pick the fruit form the whole head to lick. Inside each one is a seed, You lick it, and at same time squeeze out liquid from the shell. Each head comes with numerous fruits, so attached together that before you can pick out one fruit, it may require using spoon handle. The outer most part of each fruit is very rough just like rough sand paper. In most cases, if you 've not mastered how to pick it from the head,it will damage your thumbs. It's really sweet, though. 4 Likes |

Kondolisticated:Pictures do a better job of explaining what you mean. Please provide us with pictures of the tree and also cross section of the fruit and its seed so we can have a better idea of what to search for. The description you give above leaves me wondering if you are talking of the Pandanos fruit but the image you have is a lot off so more information in the way of pictures will help.. 6 Likes

Kondolisticated:That fruit looks more appealing to the eye than a lot of the exotic fruits I found while searching for it. Can you at least locate someone in the vicinity of Enugu North to maybe send you more details? Where exactly in Enugu North abeg, so if I ever find myself in that general area, I know where to go to find it. |
