#throwbacktuesday Part 2 (one shot)

Title : SNAIL STUDY DORMS

A man (lgh) is squatting in front of an older man. The older man looks at lgh through a magnifying glass and asks "studying for a public exam right?" lgh responds yes. Man asks "you failed last year right?" lgh responds yes. Older man says of course, last year was really unlucky. Lgh says this is my 5th year. Man asks you've failed for 5 years? (lol it seems the man is a sham fortune-teller) lgh says I have to go to work now. Man stops him saying what work are you going to by this time, you need a good luck charm. He closes his eyes and starts chanting. Lgh runs away quietly. Man opens his eyes and realizes lgh left him, he shouts after him "you're lonely, 2 palms length out, remember that".

Lgh lives in a tiny dorm with a very narrow hallway and manages the dorm. He receives packages for the tenants and helps everyone mark their property since the dorm has a shared kitchen, he also cleans and arranges the common room. The name of the dorm is daeyang study dorms. He's studying in his office when a tenant comes and asks him to go to the park (lgh's name is manager bang).

At the park, 2 men are staring each other down while other people watch (I guess they are all tenants in the dorm). One of the men has long hair like a Rockstar and the other man is accusing him of always blocking the drain in the bathroom with his hair. Rockstar hair says it's not mine, the other man points out that he's the only one with long hair in the whole dorm but Rockstar hair continues to insist it isn't his (apparently 13 men live in the dorm). The accuser is called room 11 ahjussi. The fight ends with room 11 throwing the wet hair at Rockstar hair's face and Rockstar hair cries and runs away. The other tenants say room 11 wins again. They start talking about him, one asks what he does, another says he's studying for the bar exam, bang says isn't it foreign service exam? Another says he changed to the civil service exam.

Bang and a few of the tenants are eating in the shared kitchen when room 11 comes shouting with another piece of wet hair, he says manager bang we must force him to go to the barber or lock his room, I keep knocking but the man from room 18 won't open the door. Bang says the man from room 18 is gone. Room 11 says really, That means this hair isn't his, who is it then? He drops the hair on the table and walks away. The people eating are disgusted.

Bang (his full name is bang junseong) goes to a restaurant to meet his friends from college, apparently one of them wants to introduce his girlfriend to them. Junseong is uncomfortable throughout the dinner cos his friends keep talking about work and stocks and bla bla bla. Friend's girlfriend asks junseong by the way I heard you and the newscaster noh sumin were in the same club in college, has she always been so pretty, she got a nose job right? Now the friends are uncomfortable and can't look junseong in the face, junseong is flustered and says yes she's always been pretty, her nose isn't fixed (me: I bet the sumin girl was his ex).

He gets home and a childhood friend is waiting for him. Friend asks him if he's ironed his suit cos he might get called by one of the many places he's interviewed for? Junseong says I'd have to get the job first before I wear the suit. Apparently junseong was a very good student who was also athletic in high school and college but he's been trying to make it as a program director but has never passed any interviews. Friend's name is dasik.

As dasik is going back home, we see a drunk lady (sjh) staggering by.

The next morning junseong's alarm rings at 7am, he wakes up and OMG sjh is on his bed lol he screams but she's still asleep, she's fully clothed but her bag and shoes are on the floor.

He drags her out, she's still dozing, he asks the landlady who she is and landlady says she lives next door . He says what, next door to me? Landlady says she moved into room 16 a week ago, haven't you seen her around? He asks what do you mean? This building is only for men. Landlady asks is it? He says yes, we haven't had a woman for the last 5 years. Landlady says really? I didn't know, you know I just bought this building 2 months ago. She starts to leave. He stops her and says what do I do about her? Landlady says I don't know, help her get over her hangover.

The guys are eating in the kitchen, sjh drinks the hangover soup prepared for her, she smiles and says I like soju and beer but it gives me a headache. The guys react awkwardly lol. She tells junseong "sorry all the rooms here look alike". He asks when will you move out? She says what, why? He says this dorm is for men only . She says the sign doesn't say that. She asks the other guys, is it really only for men? Lol they all keep quiet. Junseong says anyway we're all men here, it will be too uncomfortable. She says I'm OK with it, she asks the other guys "are you uncomfortable?" they all say no, it's not like we're sleeping in the same room. Lol one of the tenant is Japanese, he also says no problem in Japanese. She smiles at junseong victoriously and goes into her room. Room 11 sees her and runs to tell the other guys did you all see a woman walk past (lol)

Sjh is a noisy neighbor. Junseong can't focus on anything cos she makes a lot of noise and snores when she sleeps.

The next day, they come to call junseong to the park again. This time it's room 11 and sjh, as usual he has wet hair in his hand and accuses her of blocking the drain. She says my hair doesn't fall out this much, he says then is it your armpit hair and throws the hair at her, he was aiming for her face like with Rockstar hair but she catches it and everyone is shocked. She raises her arms up and says I don't have armpit hair, laser hair removal ahjussi have you ever heard of it. He stammers, she says why not open your arms let's see if this is yours lol he's flustered and runs away. The tenants are surprised that someone can beat room 11. Lol junseong is slightly attracted to her and slightly wary of her.

She goes to work. The guys gather to discuss, one asks what does she do for a living? Japanese student says I've seen her dancing on the street (we see her and some girls dancing in front of a restaurant for publicity), he continues I've seen her sharing flyers too (we see her sharing flyers to men asking them to visit a bar), he says I've also seen her hugging men (we see a lot of men queuing to receive hugs from her. On a banner the inscription "free hugs, you are special) (me: OK lol this guy is just talking rubbish) room 11 is very angry and says she's crazy. One of the tenants is a plumpy guy who keeps deferring his semesters with the excuse of traveling to recharge but all he does is read comic books.

Later that night sjh is washing some lettuce from the fridge while listening to music from headphones, the lettuce belongs to junseong. He comes in and sees her, he says excuse me, you can't just use things anyhow here. She doesn't hear cos of the headphone. He picks a pack of dried laver, touches her and says, we put name tags on our foods like this. Lol She still has the headphones on and assumes he was asking her to cook with it so she says didn't you know bibimyeon tastes better with lettuce not dried laver. He's frustrated but just ignores her. He takes the rest of his lettuce back to the fridge. She exclaims wow! A snail. From one of the leaves of the lettuce she's washing, there's a small snail, junseong looks at her wondering why she's so excited about a snail, she says finders keepers, he's mine, it's so beautiful. She runs to her room with the washed lettuce and the snail.

LOL one of the tenants is a struggling actor, he drags the guys to the common room cos a drama he played as an extra in was airing lol, he appeared for 1 second but to encourage him the guys all rave about how he stood out. Sjh says why are you all lying to him. The guys are flustered. Room 11 changes the channel to the news. Junseong gets nervous and goes into his room cos noh sang mi is the newscaster. Room 11 says for someone who wants to become a program director how come he never watches the news.

Later that night the Japanese student checks out of the dorm saying it was time for him to return to Japan, he thanks junseong for his help.

Junseong is locking up and turning off the lights before going to bed. He notices the wrapper of chips sjh ate on the dining table with a few of the chips on the table, he sighs and goes to clean it up and sees that the snail is in a container with a piece of chip in it (me: can snails eat chips?). He picks the container, goes to her room and knocks on the door.

They are in the kitchen, he puts the snail on some lettuce in a bigger container while she watches eating chips noisily, she says I thought it was dead cos it wasn't moving. He tells her not to leave the snail lying just everywhere and not to feed it chips, he has printed out a list of things snails eat and is reading it to her but she's not paying attention, he looks at her angrily and she says you know a lot when it comes to boring stuff. He hands her the snail and she says no I can't look after it, it'll die.

The next morning junseong is surprised to see the Japanese student in front of the dorm. Apparently he lost his passport, junseong takes him to the station to find out if he can apply for a new one. Room 11 says he's sure sjh stole it (aigoo)

Junseong is now the carer for the snail and it grows bigger. He takes it and puts on some plants on the rooftop. Sjh is there listening to her headphones, she looks at the snail and says did you come out to play too? She picks it up and says wow you've grown bigger, the snail is wet so she puts it down and says eww it peed. Junseong says no I sprayed water on it, it's actually a type of shellfish that lives by the sea so it needs to have moisture. She says wow you know a lot of things, he smiles, she smiles back at him, they sort of have a moment (me: how cute) he says that's why snails move when it rains, they head out somewhere with their wet bodies. Apparently, they're actually looking for the sea. Sjh is no longer paying attention and opening a bottle of yogurt and drinking it from the bottom. He asks must you drink it that way, she says didn't you know, it tastes best this way.

The next day he's doing the dishes when he sees that sjh has written her name on her packs of noodles "miru". Later she comes to make noodles, opens the fridge and sees there's an egg with her name on it. Junseong comes in later and sees her eating noodles, he pretends to drink water and sees that she used the egg, he smiles to himself and she catches him smiling. He starts stammering "you have to feed the snail egg shells, I don't really like eggs but you seem to eat noodles a lot so I thought that you miru ssi could eat the egg so the snail could get the shell and grow well" he runs out of the kitchen and she smiles (me: eotteoke why is he so cute)

He receives a mail that he passed an exam and is invited for an interview, he's happy but then sees a news report that noh sumin is getting married to a chaebol. His mood immediately sours.

He goes to a convenience store and picks a bottle of soju, he changes his mind, drops it and buys milk instead. He goes to pay and the attendant says that'll be 70 cents and puts a bottle of soju and chips on the counter, he's surprised to see that miru is the attendant, she looks at the milk and says no taste, no fun, no conscience. Will this get you drunk?

They both sit down drinking soju with straws, she asks him if this is really the first time he's drinking soju with straw, he's already tipsy and says yes. She says you're so boring, he says it's OK. They don't ask this stuff in interviews. She says don't be like that, if not when you die and they open you up they'll find nothing in you. Their soju finishes and she asks him to follow her for a second round, she takes him to her room and her room is beautifully decorated and he's surprised. She also has Christmas lights in her room, he asks what's this and she climbs her bed and drunkenly replies merry Christmas, it feels like Christmas everyday. He says I wish everyday was happy like Christmas too, she says then make it Christmas everyday, Christmas is nothing special just lights twinkling, when I die and they open me up, they'll see twinkling lights. She loses her balance and falls from the bed and he catches her. She says oh! I can hear your heartbeat. He stammers what do you mean? She says you don't even know twinkling lights so why is your heart beating so fast. They fall on the bed

The next morning, room 11 is shouting manager bang where are you? You should be at work by now. Junseong wakes up in miru's bed. They are both fully clothed but one of his socks is missing. He quietly sneaks out but room 11 catches him and asks why are you coming out of there. Junseong asks what do you mean? Room 11 says this is the crazy girls room. Lol junseong insists he didn't come out from there and room 11 is just confused cos the rooms are close to each other. Room 11 isn't convinced Sha.

Later in the day miru goes to meet junseong at a Cafe. Awwn it's obvious she likes him cos she checks the mirror before going to see him. They both act awkward and ask at the same time "how are you?" she says go first. He starts talking about how they shouldn't have drunk so much and bla bla bla. She's disappointed and says nothing happened. He immediately brightens up and says nothing happened right? I knew it, I mean we're not kids. She says what if something happened, so what? We're not children. He says what? She sighs and says this is fun, you pay for the juice, she leaves.

LOL for the rest of the day she acts passive aggressive towards him lol (me: aunty just tell him you like him and stop all this drama). She keeps knocking his door to tell him things in the dorm needs his attention. He hears another knock and this time he opens the door angrily. It's noh sumin.

They seat outside, she says nothing has changed here. He says congratulations on your wedding. She says thanks, I wanted to come here once before I got married, I just knocked on your door, I didn't think you'd still be here. Are you still studying? He says yes. She says I should go now, it was nice seeing you, Goodluck on your exam, she extends her hand for a shake. He hesitates then takes it and says goodbye. She says oppa do you remember that my heels came off a lot when I used to walk to this place. He says I do, she leaves.

Miru is in her room feeling sad, she sees junseong's sock

Junseong is lying on his bed, there's a knock on the door, he opens and it's noh sumin with one of her shoes in her hand, the heel is off (me: mtcheww all these exes sef, I bet she spoilt the shoe on purpose). He's fixing the shoe for her while she drinks coffee on his bed. He gives her the shoe and she says you're still good at fixing it. I'll leave after drinking the coffee, can you call me a taxi?

He goes to his office to make the call.

Sumin is looking around his room and sees the snail. There's a knock on the door, she opens it. It's miru. They stare at each other (aigoo).

Junseong comes out of his office to find all the guys standing in front of his room. Miru and sumin are inside fighting. Junseong goes to separate them, sumin slaps him and says do you know how hard it is to break heels on purpose(me: I said it) I drank my coffee slower so I could stay here longer. She leaves in anger (me: madam are you not an almost married woman?)

The next day, a reporter comes to the dorm. He sees room 11 and asks him if it's true that noh sumin was there, 11 tells everything about the ladies fighting over a man. The reporter thanks him and asks his name, aigoo 11 can't remember his name, he's been referred to as room 11 ahjussi for so long.

The reporter goes to the store where miru works.

The next day there are news reports about noh sumin being involved in a violent altercation lol miru told the reporter that she started the fight and wanted to hit sumin cos she was so pretty (aigoo).

Junseong goes to miru's room but he's too nervous to knock the door, she comes out, sees him, ignores him. He says thank you, she says for what? He doesn't respond, she says you're so boring. She's not even that pretty, she walks away.

The guys are in the common room watching another drama where the actor had a small role, this time he gets to say 2 lines in the drama and the guys are genuinely excited for him but junseong misses miru.

The next day he goes for his interview and asks the Japanese student to manage the dorm for him. While waiting to be interviewed, he notices that it's raining. He calls the Japanese student (his name is Tomo) to close the windows so rain doesn't get in. Tomo struggles in his broken Hangul to tell junseong that there's an emergency, the actor is ill and miru is piggybacking him to the hospital but because he can't speak Korean well, it sounded like miru is ill and the actor is piggybacking her. Junseong is worried but he goes in for his interview.

First question : why do you want to be a program director? He says when I was young our television was 2 palms length long but it always made me happy. This might sound cliche but I wanted to make people happy... The interviewer says it is cliche. Junseong is flustered. Another asks what does happiness mean to you? Junseong thinks deeply and says happiness is like Christmas lights. The interviewer asks lights, Not the tree? Junseong says yes, you don't need the tree or carols, just the lights can feel like Christmas, that's happiness, when you drink a yogurt from the bottom, twinkling lights, that's happiness.

He runs into the rain to catch a taxi to the hospital, he gets there sees 11 and asks where miru is? 11 is shocked and points. Junseong sees that the actor is the ill one, he has bronchial pneumonia. The rest ask him how his interview goes, he sees miru eating chips nonchalantly. He walks to her, snatches the bag of chips and shouts what are you doing? I told you not to feed it things like this, that's why the snail is sick. (Lol the guys stare at him like a mad man). How dare you just barge into my room, you made a mess of everything. She looks shocked and asks do you like me? He says yes. She says then why don't you just say so, don't you know how to do that? He says no I don't, not everyone is like you. Not everyone just does things for fun, not everyone lives without thinking like you. She asks what's wrong with that? It's better than hanging on to useless dreams like you. The sea, why would a snail search for the sea? He says that's why you spend your whole life doing part time jobs. She walks away. Room 11 asks him are you going out with that crazy girl? He rushes after her, it's still raining outside but he can't find her.

He's at a roadside tent bar with dasik who's encouraging him to take the exam next year again (me: oga is sad about girl not exam biko). Junseong eats chips and drinks yogurt from the bottom.

The next day 11 bring him miru's key, he says she said she's going somewhere far and cussed you out a lot.

Miru is at the train station. Tomo comes and asks if she's leaving? She says she never should have lived at the dorm. He asks why and continues in Japanese "were you scared?, I'm scared of going home too. When you travel it's fun cos you can go around and eat whatever but when I'm home I don't know what to do so I feel like running away, do you know why Christmas is special? It's cos it's 1 day in a year". He smiles and shows her his passports. Apparently he didn't lose it, he hid it cos he wasn't ready to leave. Lol she had no idea what he says. He tells her goodbye and hwaiting!

Junseong is in his room, searching for the snail. they come to call him to the park again. Miru is there repairing the heel of her shoe. He takes the shoe and says wow it's really bad, you can't fix this. She collects it and starts leaving. He says the snail is gone. She asks so what do you want me to do about it? He says help me find it, I can't do it alone. She says why not, your room's tiny. He laughs and says my room is bigger than it looks. She says yeah right, it's just big enough for you to lie down. He says that's what I thought at first too but I can lie down and there's still a space of 2 palm length left. He uses his palm to measure her from shoulder to shoulder and it's 2 palms (awwn). She says that's quite big then I'm sure you can't find the snail alone, they smile.

Tomo finally goes back to Japan, the plumpy student finally goes back to school, 11 finally remembers his name Kim heungi and writes it all over his food so no one forgets it, the actor rents a room with a window, apparently he got pneumonia cos he's been living in rooms without ventilation. Miru says she wonders where the snail is, junseong says it might be somewhere in the house. We see the snail by a seashore.

The endue.

Flashback to the day miru moved into the study dorm, she was going somewhere else but runs into the scam fortune teller, he tells her she's had a horrible year and needs a good luck charm. She ignores him and he says just remember 2 palms length. She raises her hand and moves her palm twice and her palm faces the dorm and that is why she moved there.

I would score this 6/10

1. I know drama specials rarely have kiss scenes but there are some where it just feels like a sin not to include a kiss scene and this is one of them. So much chemistry wasted

Halloween came early

Random post : *sigh* I just suddenly remembered Lee seo won yesterday and I was just like how will you use your hand to spoil what you've worked for. I followed his career from the start and I swear blossom was ready to make him the next park bo gum but alas stupidity no let am. Just 24 years old and his career is done. at least the other fools that destroyed themselves made plenty money before leaving the spotlight, he didn't even work for long and he had such promise. He was a good actor. Oh well, I hope he's living a better life and I pray he finds something else that gives him fulfillment, acting is not the only way to survive.

By the way my doojoon has rejected the drama with hyeri and I hear Jun might be the new male lead. Oh well, I guess I'll stop looking forward to that one. I love Jun and hyeri to death but doojoon was the main reason I was considering watching the drama and now that he is out so am i

When some amazing vocalists go through tough things in life, when the open their mouths to sing certain songs, you find yourself grateful for their hardships because it just hits differently.

I thought it would take a while to find another drama that's pure sweetness like a business proposal but love all play said hold my soju! I love it. Chae Jong hyeop and park ju Hyun are too cute. Usually when I watch a drama, I care a lot for supporting characters and I am always dissatisfied when writers sideline supporting characters but here even though the supporting characters are not being sidelined, tbh I don't really care about them. I feel like I would still love the drama if every scene was just the park twins lol that is the power they have over me. I hope that injured athlete isn't park Tae joon's sister sha cos her surname is also park. If she is aigoo taeyang will probably feel even more guilty and start forming I can't like you because I killed your sister's career. Anyway so far it's an easy watch, cute and funny and I hope it stays that way
