Today's update on 10 Hecters of maize cultivation

Planting of maize stared yesterday. (30/4/22)

The seed we are planting is called SEEDCO (Hybrid seed)
The price is N1700 per KG and we are using 200k for the 10 Hecters, that will give us 1700 x 200 = N340k

Labourer that is doing the planting charged N10,000 per Hecter which gives us N100k for the 10 Hecters

Next update will be spraying of chemicals which will be coming soon.

@ kedoty. Good job boss. On the update, I was expecting Pioneer for the seeds, have you used this seedco before? , which particular seedco number? I have heard of it too.

As regards the planting, why opting for manual labour as against the planter machine? Any reasons.

It's White, Late maturity and 75 Days maturity

I chose late maturity because, the yield is higher than the early maturity.

My experience with SeedCo was disastrous. I do not want to go into it here because I filed a report with one of the senior guys in that company and heads rolled. Let's hope it is better with you.

I have found Premier Seeds' OBA-98 and other OPV seeds of theirs to be worth the money. All those other exotic seeds from Pioneer, Mosanto and the rest are all junk. Even the cheap foundation seeds I got from a nairalander proved to be a stunning success when I planted them.

Sir , pls tell me the weight ranges of a bag of dry maize packed in those northern 100kg bags.......

I want to believe it is variable based on the seed weight, a friend of mine had planted pioneer before and the ogi yield from the corn is about 2.5 times that of normal varieties around but seeds look same size

I really want to understand the origin of seed yield data as advertised by sellers

Tractor has started the first ploughing

N250,000 for the 10 Hecters (N25,000 per Hecter)

On the 4th of April, 2022 N250,000 was paid to Baale and Omo onile (land owners) as one year rent for the 10 Hecters of land I e N25,000 per Hecter.

Is it not too expensive. 25,000 per hecter to me is high.

What quantity per plant? What did they use as measure e.g cap of coke.

At this stage i ask, are u selling fresh or dry, If u are selling fresh the price of fresh corn has dropped, there is glut in the fresh corn market currently, but if are going to dry your corn please state the strategy you would use to dry ur corn, i want to believe the coming august break is too short a time to dry out ur corn as any little moisture in d nteak will lead to either fungus over growth or seeds germinating on cobs
