My dear bro my comment was deleted so fast as I have come to notice once brazen truth is posted on this forum hence I opened this thread .

Seun you have access to the backend and I as a webtech person know this as well as you do, Nairaland is dying and you is true.

The traffic has dropped drastically. I posted the below comment this morning and elaborated then it was deleted within 30 seconds why?
Nairaland clearly has no content anymore... People are not creating content here as they used to in the past... Don't be surprised very soon you will be seeing bet9ja bet predictions on front page.

Relying on user generated free content is flawed because that can only work in a society where the citizens don't have access to create their own websites hence give you their intellectual property, their content for free...
Like in the old days the OAPs on radios where kings. For them to okay your sing as an upcoming artist you had to pay the radio station and still pay huge kick backs to the OAP , but now we have steaming services who even pay you to stream your song on their platform...ironic how the tables have turned isn't it ?

Back then when you started nairaland I can understand why you relied on user generated content , that way you didn't have to employ content writers and worry about stready free supply.of content .. and you sat back and watched the traffic grow .

It's not the same today is it? Everyone wants make money for the content their mind creates , do no one wants to give their content for free here anymore... They will ratehr create their own bloggs and websites to grow their own traffic and userbase which is very normal , so what does this mean for Nairaland? Bad news I am afraid.

When one starts seeing topics like "this is how I trwate guys without beard on front page " and how to user trucaller on front page on a working morning then "Houston we have a problem"

Even Twitter is starting to charge for usage , no more free passes...

Seun, I suggest either you create a paid sub service for this platform... Do you can emplye professional content creators to reduce the vast numbe rod mediocre content on front page or maybe you create some sort of compensation for people who create threads that hit front page... I am guessing here but something has to change .. forget the prapaganda of trending that someone wants to buy this website .. something has got to give .

The traffic on front page has dropped drastically save for football threads... Mo's tthreads are 5 pages of 99% tribal abuses and bashing between the same accounts over and over again, on everyoahe you see
accounts like islandlady, LeoDeKing , LordviccoDaGuru, , shirtIGBOman, Mooh247 insulting the Igbos , then you see accounts like Afonjamuslim24, yorubaking, achialugo etc insutling Yorubas , then these same groups own multiple accounts and when one gets banned they reopen new ones and use these accounts to trend... The forum has become a cesspit of tribal bashing , hate speech and very few credible content...

Either create a new system of rewardimg content creation and limit or eradicate tribal sensational comments or start. Paid subscription for everyone that way when you pay for a service you won't just come and waste in in tribal bashing

Well, I have been here on and off for a long time, sometimes I clear off for months on end and deactivate account for peace of mind (lol). But you are not the first person in my long time here to complain about the toxicity and garbage on this site.

I once read about a similar phenonemom on the old bulletin boards in universites in the USA...back in the early 90's. The boards...similar to this site, will at one point of the year have a rash of 'immature comments'. The time of the year was when the universities had an influx of freshmen (Jambites to you and me)...who got institutional access, and suddenly came in with their immature comments.

And having been using the internet for a long time myself, and been on several threads...like Yahoo (when I joined, Yahoo was civilised...by the time comments were suspended in 2019, it had become a toxic joint)...the fact is, between 2005...when people who were likely to use the internet were academics, and Naija expats..(the two sets of people who had access...then no such thing as internet on your phone except GPRS...which was poor compared to today (40-60% of Nigerians have access to the internet, and people most likley to use it are young and insular Nigerians)...the more the users, the more the toxicity.

After all, people say the same about sites like Quora and Reddit too.
