It’s much easier for a dealership to replace an engine with another engine because it’s cheaper and quicker.

Rebuilding an engine is a rigorous physical task which also takes time and may require long waiting time for parts to arrive.
Rebuilding an engine gives the technician opportunity to observe and detect worn out components and factory flaws in the manufacture of that engine and make amendments or use parts with higher degree of tolerance which will meet or usually exceed manufacturers specifications in the manufacture of that engine.

If a brand new engine from a crate cost $25,000, a rebuild using a much higher quality aftermarket components than the manufacturer actually used in building that engine may be $30,000-35,000 for parts and labour.

If a simple engine swap takes 10hours, a rebuild could take 70-120hours.


If an engine from manufacturer produces max 200hp and 210ib.ft brand new, a rebuilt engine from higher quality materials could be anywhere from 220hp 240ib.ft or even way more.


If factory manufactured engine have a lifespan of 10years, a properly rebuilt engine may last longer than that if components of higher tolerances and quality are used.

An engine can determine that in most case. FYI, 1MZ-FE and 3MZ-FE has high tendencies to sludge due to their PCV design.

Now this is confusing… I intend to use the car for a week. This will enable notice any abnormality before taking it to a workshop and have all works done once..

For now the engine sounds so cool with no sign of worry at all. I took an independent mechanic before making the purchase… it runs very smoothly.. only the steering feels abit hard than usual..

I have a lexus es300 I got toks in 2020. Csr drives well with zero problems but recently after the whole Xmas runaround I noticed acceleration problem. I scanned with my obd and got p0330 for knock sensor, p0420, p0430 for cats and two other codes related to small leak of fuel vapor.

This acceleration problem presents as difficulty gaining speed, there seems to be a 5 seconds or so delay in speeding up from a low speed like after a check point. I called my mech he inspected plugs and coils and said they're bad I changed them all plus fuel filter/pump but this thing continued. I requested they inspect the cats for blockage which was the case in the upstream bank and I had it emptied but this thing no stop.

I was confused. I ordered for new knock sensor plus the harness and I will fix them when they arrive. Yesterday on my way to pH I took closer look at the rpm and noticed it freezes sometimes. When I step on the gas on the highway I hear engine sound increase but rpm does not go up and speed does not increase. The rpm seems to be stuck at 1.4 as I step on the gas. At this time it is stuck, I struggle to gain speed till rpm starts moving up again.

I was not happy how corolla just overtake me come give me serious gap while I was struggling for that 5 seconds but if I remove my feet on the gas and step on it again, the rpm actually goes up and I can attain upto 130km depending on the road conditions.

Sometimes too the rpm bounces back to 1 with my feet on the gas then it sticks at 1 for 5 seconds then pushes upward as the car speeds up to high speed.

My problem is mechanics in my area do not understand anything I am saying but I know something is wrong with this car.

Does anybody have any idea what I'm missing?

I’m experiencing a similar problem with my es330.

If I step on the gas it roars and takes 3-4 seconds before it speeds up… I serviced the car the day before yesterday, and it started moving fine.. I’ve not been able to use my car since yesterday due to Gear oil leakage.. mechanic said I need to change pump in the gear box… I thought u guys es 330 was sweet to use…

Mechanic is charging 15k for pump 20k for workmanship..

I only just got this car barely a month, still looking for a good mechanic around ikeja, beesam , mafoluku

Pls i bought an RX 300 for my dad over a year ago now, now he’s having problem with the transmission.. When you put the car in reverse you have to press down the accelerator before it can even move same as the Drive… They said its the transmission.
My question is: Do i need to buy the entire transmission or half of it or can it be worked
