yMcy56: Nigerians have lost over N600 billion in the last 4 years to Ponzi schemes and other High Yield Investment Schemes There was a case of a lady who lost N2 million to MBA forex and wanted to commit suicide, her friends and family raised the N2 million and advised her not to commit suicide. Unfortunately 8 months after, the lady lost another N3 million to Chinmark. We have former Ponzi scheme Investors who are now investing in the stock market. These are there characteristics 1. They are concerned about the upside without thinking about the downside ie they have poor risk management. 2. They are always playing catch up, that is they are trying to recover the money they lost to Ponzi very fast through the stock market... 3. They are aggressive and easily offended 4. They believe this time will be different, so they are always out for the next highly speculative position... 5. They have a very poor sense humour. 6. They are not ready to take responsibilities for the negative outcomes of their Investments decisions 7. They are never happy with themselves, the cause is usually psychological 8. They are on the lookout for the next miracle that will turnaround their previous financial and Investment mistakes. 30 Likes 4 Shares |

emmanuelewumi: You are just a sight to behold! A spectacle.. Still you are unable to follow the origins and history of my posts to understand that I hold stocks in several blue chip companies and only wanted clarification on some results posted here that the posters gave the impression that they could be good buys.. please get off your high horse and read my previous posts so you can drop this your apparently delusional position.. it does seem that nothing will make you change your mind regarding your assessment of the situation even if you indeed read all my previous posts though.. obviously you are hero worshipped here but that doesn't give you the right to denigrate people.. You can keep your nsempa factional kingdom.. I'm just interested in getting advice from humble civilised people.. all hail king Emmanuel !!! And good luck to your subjects 4 Likes |

RabbiDoracle: *Stocks go up and down in response to changes in perception of a company’s ability to generate earnings and pay dividends *Changes in perception can arise from developments within the company, in the company’s competitive environment, or in the economy in general. emmanuelewumi: I wouldn't want to respond but i believed my discussion with you on this was personal. . Let me state sir, it has nothing to do with our discussion on you not investing except you're trying to announce that to the public. Infact, you gave me an invaluable advice. I have left the business for a while (I didn't loose neither did I gain-financially-as I thought I would- another story for another day in starting a business in Nigeria) but most importantly for me was the lessons learnt during the short time of operation has been an experience I can only learn in practical. I am into a Tech Start up with a team and we have over 32k users in our App Beta version in just less than a year: The success of this will also enable me integrate an ingenious approach in logistics on a long term basis. I also earn considerable well in one of the major industry in Nigeria. I have no grudge based on need from you at the moment or in the past. it was a short response to a question I raised here sometime..I can't even remember the scenario but your response wasn't what I expected. I am not close to where you are and someday I believe I will reach and pass. Also, I keenly follow your posts and admire your thoughts and advice on this forum. You are BIG sir . I'm just stating the obvious that not all of us are equal in knowledge..there wasn't need to respond in relation to Ponzi Scheme. An ordinary man will utter some word and its nothing but a President will utter that same word and he is held accountable. Thank you for all your contributions. I'm still following your keenly on your investment strategies. God bless you sir. 8 Likes |

emmanuelewumi:I am very happy you have moved on, and my respect for you have increased the more. I think its best we avoid mentioning anything ponzi to persons we feel have suffered losses therefrom. I have had encounters with such persons and believe me, you can never imagine what they go through daily. For some Suicide appears the only way out. The torment from depression and regrets is something else. One of my greatest task in my professional encounters with them, has been the difficulty in telling them thier money cannot be recovered. And let me tell you : A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE INVOLVED. As much as possible, let us avoid rubbing it in the face of any person we suspect(rightly or wrongly) has been victim. And No nigerian today will feel happy being called victim of such. Please let us all move on. 10 Likes 1 Share |

ositadima1: At bottom inflection point, prices change (start to rise) even when fundamentals are still bad. So you see that the earnings lag price movements. Likewise at the top inflection point, prices change(start to fall) when the fundamentals are still perfect. So when the earnings are released, it confirms the trend. So that inflection point looks like a constant which is determinable. 3 Likes |

ositadima1: Sometimes yes, many times No. Example Zenith bank 2017 YE was reported in early 2018. So let's look at these earnings. 2016 PBT 156B PAT 129B 2017 PBT 203B PAT 177B interim, final dividends : 0.25 and 2.45 2018 PBT 231B PAT 193B interim, final dividends : 0.3 and 2.50 2019 PBT 243B PAT 208B interim, final dividends : 0.3 and 2.50 Remember 2019 YE was reported in early 2020 This is a beat! Yet Zenith stock price fell from N32. 65 in February 2018 to N10.70 in March 2020. This was a 67% uninterrupted decline in price even when earnings were stellar and dividends increased. At inflection point, irrespective of fundamentals things change. 5 Likes |

RabbiDoracle: Your explanation is similar to the way I understand the market. Here is my view: Their are two teams - the buyers team and the sellers team. Each team has 2 subteams. The buyers: B1, they want to buy as low as possible, you can also call them bargain hunters. B2, they are ready to buy for higher if pushed. The sellers: S1, they want to sell as high as possible, you can also call them bargain hunters. S2, they are ready to sell for lower if pushed. Note that both buyers and sellers have a price range in mind based on the information they have, consciously or subconsciously. As price moves up B2 dries up and S2 starts overshadowing S1. B1 gains upperhand until S2 dries up and the situation reverse. Now, as price moves lower S2 dries up and B2 starts overshadowing B1. S1 gains upperhand until B2 dries up and the situation reverse once more. How far each group will go depends on many factors, some of which are: *Information asymmetry *Macro and Micro economics *luck *Number of buyers/sellers available at a given time etc 1 Like |

RabbiDoracle: Let's look at another example, FIDSON! In 2015, it peaked at around 3 Naira. In 2017, it crashed to 93 kobo. In 2018, it peaked again to 6 Naira. In 2020, it crashed to 2 Naira, 45 kobo. Currently, it is at 9 Naira, 85 kobo Tell me you could have estimated/guessed how far up or down at these points. |

The Graham number (or Benjamin Graham's number) measures a stock's fundamental value by taking into account the company's earnings per share (EPS) and book value per share (BVPS). The Graham number is the upper bound of the price range that a defensive investor should pay for the stock. Sqrt(22.5 * EPS * BVPS) According to Graham, Zenith at anywhere below 84 Naira is a buy. Is it true? 3 Likes |

Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by emmanuelewumi(m): 4:08am On May 09, 2022 |
ositadima1: Graham Number is the maximum price one can pay for a stock. So I will expect a margin of safety by discounting it by 30%. You can't use Graham number alone, you need use it with other valuation techniques. Graham Number does not consider the earning growth of the company. The highest PE allowed by Graham Number is 15 and the highest PB is 1.5. The multiplication of the 15 by 1.5 is the 22.5 in the formula. So the number you will get for a high growth business will be very low Instead of using the 22.5 as found in the formula, you can calculate the annualized growth rate of the business for the past 5 years, calculate the justified PB of the business. Multiply the annualized earning growth rate by the justified PB, the the EPS and Book value of the company and then get the square root. You can get the justified PB by subtracting the return on equity from the sustainable growth rate divided by the difference between your required return and the sustainable growth rate. You get your sustainable growth rate from the product of the retention rate and the return on equity. A company like United Capital with a dividend payout ratio of 80%, will have a retention rate of 20%. The return on equity of United Capital is 50, so the sustainable growth rate is 10% My required return is usually 17% ie return on a long term FGN bond plus 4. Sustainable growth should be lower than the actual earning growth of the company From my calculation, I have a justified PE ratio of 8 for zenith bank. Multiplying the justified PE by the earning per share of zenith bank I will have about N55 for the company. 14 Likes 1 Share |

At inflection point, irrespective of fundamentals things change. [/quote] But Zenith traded at N27 in 2020 but dropped to N10.70 the price of crude oil went down to zero or below cost price.
