Hello Everyone,
Any idea on how I can reschedule my flight on Ethiopian air, the site says I can only reschedule one week from flight date and if it’s earlier, I should contact their Facebook messenger bot, which I have and it’s not really been helpful.

Please anyone who rescheduled recently should help. I’m worried about proceeding and making my old date invalid while not being able to book.
Please help!!!!

Hello eFam,

I assume someone might have asked this before but I can't get solid information online and hoping someone might have navigated this path before so thought to ask. Apologies if this is the wrong thread or I'm bringing back an old topic.

I recently got my CoPR (Yayy!!), However, I am in the middle of a project for my current company (To be honest, it's a project I'd love to see through and it's got about a year left and requires physical presence).

Now the dilemma, I don't want to wait so long before going to Canada, at least to get my PR card. I was thinking soft landing (I hope I'm using the proper term here, basically, go in, spend about a month or so, get my PR card, return to my project and see it through)

I am also concerned about taxes and all the legalities of being in Canada and working outside, do you know if this is likely to cause an issue when I try to renew my PR after 5 years or if I am able to apply for citizenship by staying 3 years in the first 5 years. Has anyone managed to navigate this successfully and didn't have any issues when renewing or applying for citizenship?

Any useful input would be greatly appreciated.

I believe soft landing isn't a bad thing to do. When you land and apply for your PR card, be sure to use the address of a friend or family who will have to send it to you via courier. Takes about 3 months for the card to be ready. Another alternative is the permanent resident travel document, can't say how long the doc is valid.
As long as you spend the minimum amount of days in the 5 year period, there shouldn't be an issue.
About the taxes, I don't think you are expected to pay taxes if you aren't working in Canada. Others can weigh in on this.

That being said, out of my curiosity, why are you so invested in a particular project?
I once told my professional mentor something similar and he was like, there will always be another great project to be part of.
My candid advice, already start looking for job in Canada.

Hello house, Good afternoon.
So for the proof of funds, please I would like to know if I can use an Investment letter from the same organization that I work with or must the funds be domiciled elsewhere? Asking cause I feel they may see it as somewhat of a conflict of interest or something within the line of thinking I may have had an influence since it’s my organization. Would really need an answer to this. Thank you

Thanks for the input.

I think the summary to the question would be if there are any tax or long term implications for those who intend to do soft landing. I've heard of a case in some other countries where people can't apply for citizenship because they don't have proper tax filings (and it makes some sense to me because I don't think countries give out PR/citizenship for one to reside outside and not add to their economy).

For your question, it's more of passion and empathy, putting in the brain work and effort to get it won, started and having handled this for a while now, can be a little painful to exit without seeing it through. Plus..I may or may not have a financial interest in it wink lol

You can read up on tax here and ask on the Living in Canada thread. My understanding is that once you are a resident (after soft landing maybe) your worldwide income is subject to tax. https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/tax/international-non-residents/individuals-leaving-entering-canada-non-residents/newcomers-canada-immigrants.html Some may argue that you are PR after soft landing but do not have established residence for tax purposes......if in doubt and have plenty dough hire a financial adviser. cheesy

I don't know if filing or not filing tax affects citizenship.

You can usually renew your PR if you stay in Canada for at least 2 years out of the last 5 years and can apply for citizenship after living in Canny for at least 3 years. Presence calculator here

If you work with GTB and your account is with GTB whether salary or investment account, where is the conflict?

April 7th - Dropped passport at DHL for transfer to VFS Lagos.
April 8th - Passport delivered to VFS Lagos.
April 13th - Passport dispatched to VFS Accra.
April 22nd - Passport received by VFS Accra and dispatched to IRCC Accra.
April 25th - Passport received by IRCC Accra.
April 28th - Decision Envelope received by VFS Accra from IRCC for dispatch to VFS Lagos.
April 29th - Application approved and counterfoil generated.

That's exactly 22 days but the journey hasn't ended. I'll inform the house when passport and COPR are in my hands.

Update as promised.

May 6th - Decision envelope received by VFS Lagos.
May 6th - Decision envelope dispatched to me via DHL
May 9th - COPR and passport landed in my custody grin grin grin grin grin

It took 32 days from submission at DHL to delivery by DHL.
Once again, I want to thank every member of this thread for their contributions over the years, as without this community I would never have ventured on this journey. I am naturally very cautious, so I tend to avoid things that are too good to be true and that was my first reaction when I was prodded to look into EE. It seemed totally crazy that just by submitting the right documents in the correct format, an eligible applicant would be granted PR so I came to Nairaland to search for evidence. It's safe to say I found much more than evidence on this thread. I read all the PPR testimonies. They were heartwarming, and the experiences were varied (e.g. the lesbian common-law partners, first time travelers, single people, couples, married post ppr etc etc) but the most important thing to me was that people with different backgrounds and experiences eventually got their PPR's mostly by following information that was readily available on this thread. This is what made me undertake this journey. There were times when despair set in, I even came to let it all out here once with my old moniker, but the members of this thread kept me going with their actions - helping newbies by answering questions, giving advise to complicated situations (and we all know that some of the situations are truly complicated!!) and providing words of encouragement to both pre-ITA and Post-AOR people. I salute everyone who has contributed to making this thread active. Thanks so much! Na landing gist remain o! I pray this Canadian dream comes to reality for all of us on this thread and the land favours us!!

Thank you so much!

Been thinking about this thing for a while now and I have a gut feeling that at some point they'll begin to use it to deny certain facilities or privileges to people. I know its pretty serious in U.K that's why I asked.

Done countless readings on blogs and websites, seems the best thing to do is to get a financial advisor or just find a way to hand over anything that'll keep me from working and living there full time else it'll just become a very complicated thing.

NB: I am in doubt but do not have plenty or near enough dough to hire a financial advisor or a legal one, those services are mad expensive!! I'll just avoid trouble

Hello All,

Quick question. What is the way to show proof of funds at the port of entry? So I am thinking that the border officials will request to see proof that you have got funds similar to what you declared in your profile.

Do you need to transfer cash for your first landing?

Regards.
