The academic body took the decision at an emergency National Executive Council (NEC) held at ASUU Secretariat in Abuja.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has extended its strike by 12 weeks.

This was confirmed by the National President of ASUU, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke who spoke to SaharaReporters on Monday morning.

The academic body took the decision at an emergency National Executive Council (NEC) held at ASUU Secretariat in Abuja.

The emergency meeting, which had in attendance principal officers and branch chairmen, started on Sunday and ended early Monday morning.

Members of the union had embarked on a one-month strike on February 14 over the failure of the Nigerian Government to honour the various agreements reached with them.

Some of ASUU’s demands include the release of revitalisation funds for universities, renegotiation of the 2009 FGN/ASUU agreement, release of earned allowances for university lecturers, and deployment of the UTAS payment platform for the payment of salaries and allowances of university lecturers.

Following the expiration of the initial four-week warning strike, the union had gone ahead to declare additional eight weeks of industrial action, saying that it was giving the government more time to attend to its needs.

Ok 3 more months

That’s by 9th August they will converge again and decide whether to extend am again or not.

February to August means 8months strike

Male Students would have completed a welding course, tiling work, or plumbing by then.

While the female students who have already carry belle will beg ASUU and FG to extend strike by 1 more month for them to born at home, instead of going to lecture with 8months pregnancy.

Three of my female colleagues have wedded during this strike, more will marry. So the strike is a huge blessing to every Nigerian student.

Chai...
Nigeria Educational system is seriously going down the drain but that's not a problem to our brothers from the west, their major problem & concern is the postponement of Today's Jamb exam in the east!

Who do us this kind thing
Re: ASUU Confirms Extension Of Strike By 3 Months by LibertyRep: 10:31am On May 09, 2022
Oh no! Some prospective candidates are writing UTME at the moment to gain admission into these unis.

At the end, ASUU will get paid, the Ministers of labour and education will get paid.

But who is at loss here;
i. the students who will have to spend more time than necessary and whose house rent is counting
ii. Those whose source of livelihood depends on the patronage of the students in the university Community, the shuttle drivers, the business center owners, the food vendors and a whole lot of other business owners.
iii. The parents obviously
iv The nation ultimately.

Who are the beneficiaries? The proprietors of private universities. They are smiling to the banks now.

If ASUU eventually calls off this strike without achieving anything tangible for the universities, then the entire strike is a waste of precious time.

ASUU and FG : One Week, One Problem.

It is the right of our youths to go back to school, cos your own kids are schooling abroad.
The Ministry of Education should get their acts together.
This is getting too long.
Stop slowing down the journey of our youths,
Let them return to class please.

Shame Shame Shame!

its funny this news is coming after jambite jus finish jamb last week, schools on strike but admission would still be given out..
when ASUU are done with their strike, maybe dey would combine new freshers with year1 and na only reg number go different
I think its better for some public uni dt are state owned to pull out from this strike because its not worth it..
