That is commendable. They should also change these waste disposal trucks and get better ones. I have never seen any waste truck in Enugu with complete 10 tyres and no day goes by without you seeing one of them broken down on the road, sometimes with waste still in them. Add these to the review. But there are better ways to manage these wastes. Waste disposal is a viable business if it privatised. With the company responsible for collection of levies and disposal of the waste just like in some states. It will make them serious and stop the activities of scavengers who only litter the bins looking for plastics and other stuff which should be among the gains of these disposal companies. But of course, it's Enugu, and good ideas are not welcomed here, just administer the state for 8yrs, keep the peace, chop your money, sell all the land and run off to the senate. Continue! 2 Likes |

Hummm... Nigerians are experts at managing and adjusting to horrible living conditions. If not, food prices would not be this high, education would not be in shambles, our roads would not be a mess, our government agencies would not be this corrupt and our government would not be this shamelessly useless! So instead of finding out why everything seems to be going to hell all at once, making life unbearable for anyone who isn't looting, they are here talking about upward review of blablabla... The upward review that the cost will still be passed off to the masses who are groaning under the weight of everything else! Its sad and unfortunate sha. A government that celebrates ineptitude and a citizenry that let's them get away with it! Tueh! |

bro4u:K. Also ,. considering I regard subsidies as bad for the economy and Bihari cannot do without them... Go and read about subsides Seriously you know nothing about subsides. I agree Bihari is clueless, for throwing away 4 trillion naira in the name of subsidy at the expense of decent refineries and more jobs and investment so that jokes like you can buy fuel at 40 naira per liter That's why you voted for him . I didn't because I don't vote for socialists who think that their decisions would be paid for by imaginary money. |
Re: Diesel Price Hike: Enugu Increases Waste Evacuation Contracts' Budget by Nobody: 8:29am On May 12, 2022 |
Kfed4ril: Even if the refineries are working well, diesel would still be expensive due to high price of the raw material it is refined from, called crude And the reason why we have bad refineries is because subsidizing fuels makes it difficult for the sector to make a profit to keep the refineries working well enough and encourages sharp practices that keep them in bad state. |
Re: Diesel Price Hike: Enugu Increases Waste Evacuation Contracts' Budget by Nobody: 8:39am On May 12, 2022 |
bayelsaowei: Simple. Demand for cheap fuel led to the government subsidizing fuel since the 1970s Which led to low profits which led to bad refineries. Especially since the government is subsidizing fuel, refineries don't need to work to make a profit. Subsidy money covers everything. That's why I back removal of subsidy and privatisation of the refineries. No free government money in the name of subsidy means that the refineries will work or else they would lose money. Yes we would have high fuel prices. Niger has a refinery supplied by crude oil it produces. They sell fuel at 350 naira and above. No subsidy. So the refinery can operate at a profit and they even export. Here in Nigeria we import fuel at 300 naira and above, sell it at 162 naira, pay NNPC subsidy that does not cover the resulting losses, and expect them to have a profit to build refineries. Meanwhile the money comes from government revenue, meaning right now we don't have enough cash to pay salaries and pay for projects. Whereas if there had been no subsidy, there would have been enough profit to fix and build refineries and all the looting in the name of turn around maintenance, oil swap and bridging fees won't have been happening. To say nothing of the billions we lose having fuel smuggled out of this country. At all the borders. You see why I have opposed subsides fpr ten years now? And why I think it is evil to have it extended to diesel after GEJ took the sensible decision to completely end subsides on diesel in 2013? Good morning |

subsidywise18: Oga you’re talking nonsense, do we buy the crude oil? We have it in excess that’s why I said if our refineries was working, coupled with our natural crude, diesel would have been cheaper than it is today, heck even if we bought the raw crude and refined in-house, it would still be cheaper than it is today. Stop trying to defend the the obvious. |
Re: Diesel Price Hike: Enugu Increases Waste Evacuation Contracts' Budget by Kfed4ril(m): 9:41am On May 12, 2022 |
subsidywise18: I hope you know that if Nigeria has a working refinery, the profit the government makes is 100% because they don’t buy the crude oil from anyone, they simply tap and refine. |
Re: Diesel Price Hike: Enugu Increases Waste Evacuation Contracts' Budget by Nobody: 9:47am On May 12, 2022 |
Kfed4ril: They don't just tap and refine The people who do the refining have to be paid. That's where the dollars paid per barrel goes to. Then there is taxes etc plus JV partners. Plus a lot of private entities drill for crude too. They must be paid. If they were refining crude free , it would mean that government is spending out of money that it would have used for other things. Plus we need more than five working refineries anyways |
Re: Diesel Price Hike: Enugu Increases Waste Evacuation Contracts' Budget by Nobody: 9:48am On May 12, 2022 |
Kfed4ril: We buy the crude. Or how would the people refining it get paid? We buy the crude. What you are saying amounts to saying that NNPC is selling crude for free to government. That would be ridiculous. |
