O-town cheesy

NEWSCENTER:
Okada as it is popularly known in Nigeria is a commercial motorcycle. Okada was formerly banned in Owerri the capital of Imo state, but over time okada business returned to Owerri. This has created some mixed concerns for the residents and visitors to the state capital.

However on investigation and chats with some okada riders, they complained about the bad roads in and around Owerri, that it is only okada can navigate such dilapidated roads in the town. Some passengers we talked to confirmed the same scenario, that most areas in the state capital have bad roads, that is it only the okada that is making their movement around the town easy.

The police command in the state has this to say. “The Imo State Police Command has said that the ban on commercial motorcycle riders, popularly known as ‘Okada’, would be enforced strictly in Owerri metropolis.

Commercial motorcycle riding has banned in parts of the state by the state government since last year.

According to the media adviser to the Imo State Commissioner of Police, Mike Abatam, the ban is aimed at curbing the use of commercial cycles to perpetrate crime in the state.

As part of the measures required to sustain the already improved security situation and to ensure lasting peace following the successful neutralization of crime and criminalities in the state and its environs”

“The Imo State Police Command is poised to enforce the Imo State Government existing law banning the use of commercial motorcycles in the metropolis.

“This becomes resolute because of the involvement of some of the commercial motorcycle operators, in criminal activities and other vices in the state.

“However, for service personnel’s who ply on bike, the command directs that they should wear their service uniform, a crash helmet for them and their passengers for easy identification.

“The command directed that service personnel should wear their uniforms and adorn crash helmets devoid of passengers while transiting with their motorbikes.

“The Commissioner of police, CP Abutu Yaro, fdc, warn all commercial motorcycle operators to desist from operating within Owerri Metropolis since, the extant rule of outright seizure of offending motorbikes equally remains sacrosanct.”

My issue is every admin has a 'bus/taxi' system in Owerri. So you will see Ohakim taxis, Rochas Taxis, Uzodimma taxis. These government taxis will be in the same motor park dragging regular businesses for customers.

A good administrator would simply say, if you want to do busing in Owerri they must fit this criteria, and you will have luxury or at least a comfortable busing system over night. Build standard bus terminals or give them to a private company and give that private company a set of standards they must meet. Set bus routes. You can modernize transport in Owerri without spending 1 kobo.

You're wise. Your suggestions are so on point. "You can modernize transport in Imo without spending one Kobo"

Ngor okpala has always been designated as an agricultural industrial zone, remember the proposed IMO FTZ site was located at Ngor okpala.
To me the biggest beneficiary of Owerri city expansion is Naze and Avu communities

True. If you check, many housing estates are also popping up in those areas

thank you. Our way of thinking at home is often 'more money, better development' so you have governments bragging about how much their project 'gulped' lol. Very wasteful and tells you perception is more important than result. If result is important, you can get the same result in nearly every project without spending government more, OR without spending half as much as our governments like to see 'gulped'.

Even the bus terminals can be built without government money. Contract someone to build on the land, they charge buses to stop there, government holds them to a specific standard and investigates annually to see if standard is being met. Simple.

I get so angry when i hear of the billions of dollars the likes of Malaysia are making from palm oil, and i see this massive investment in Imo just laying waste! I thought Okorocha initiated the ikwuola nku initiative!? What happened to that, or was it just the usual hot air!? Was watching a news report on the international trade in palm oil, and they stated it takes about 15 years for planted palm trees, of high yielding variety, to start producing fruit. Imagine if Okorocha had been serious with this massive project and replaced the old trees with the new variety.....by now Imo state would have been exporting palm oil and would have built on the value-chain to employ thousands of youths!

Governance isn't rocket science, but the kind of leaders we get seem to make it look so....when all that's needed is a bit of commonsense and commitment!

Anyone know which gov't built this massive palm plantation?

Even with all the killings in imo state, I haven't seen you discuss this on imo thread. Ipob terrorists, ugm, esn are daily being hailed in Owerri but you miserable frustrated fellow hasn't seen the need to discuss, but any time there are imo invaders in Onitsha, you will land here.

These happened just yesterday in Owerri imo state, but this miserable nuisance called asha80 wasn't worried. Two soldiers going to wed in imo state were beheaded, If these had happened in Anambra this same ediot called asha80 would have ran to Anambra thread to discuss.

Why are these young secessionists wasting their lives for nothing? These Biafran agitators always claim to be fighting for us without asking for our consent. I will always say that restructuring is better than balkanization. Given our business acumen, Nigeria is not even enough for the Igbo man. Now, some people want to confine the Igbos to South East and turn around to say they are fighting for us.

The biggest challenge is that these guys don't even listen to reasoning because most of them are armed artisans and illiterates. If this struggle had been about restructuring, it would have been easy to get similar armed groups in South South (and even South West) involved and get the so-called northern politicians to accept it or they bring the economy of the country to its knees.

Make no mistake about it, no Nigerian president will let Nigeria disintegrate under his watch. Instead, he will deploy all the resources of the state to keep the country one because many people, including him, are benefiting from the dysfunctional system.

Let those who can read know this: Restructuring is by far better than balkanization/secession.

I agree totally, my annoyance in all this impasse is that when Akuroulo mantra is gaining momentum this idiots struck. I so much thank God it has contained to Orlu outskirt like Orsu LGA, Ebubeagu uprooted them from Njaba finally. Though the military is has a temporary base in Orsu as at early this month, the place is getting calm now.

AGIP is bringing investment into our gas sector, the MD visited Hope Uzodinma just last week. We pray it materialize so that our youths can get engaged.

I like what hope is doing same as umahi..

The remaining ones we have in the east are too cowardly to take any action. If all governors in SE were proactive like wike, umahi and hope ,it won't have degenerated like this.

So far as Imo state is concerned the worst days are over, it was truly dark last year. Investments are coming in, and we hope it continues so that idle hands can be engaged effectively. Please imolites bring in your investments that's the only way you can contribute to elevate our state.

I pray mnk would be released and things should go back to normal,u will be shocked with the investments that will troop into Igbo land

Oga Nobody is realising him, better for him there, if he comes out and touch the Microphone, all this Ipob touts will carry radio on their ears like Hausa/fulani waiting for order to kill as usual. The best is any noise from them, we go there and level them into pieces as Hope is doing right now in Orlu. Other Governors can go sympathizing with their leader non of our business. this is what Umahi and Hope Uzodinma will never try. They need Wike treatment. Almost one week they're forcing, holding a whole state on ransom of sit at home. Each time Their leader is brought out to kill Our economy.

A military base in now in orsu. A very happy about it. God bless Uzodima. He is doing everything possible to restore lasting peace and security in Imo state.

May God give him the strength to win this fight. A very security proactive governor.

I read about a report about NNPC in conjunction with Seplat to establish a condensate refinery in imo state, after completing the seplat gas projects

Are you not referring to ANOH Gas Processing Company?

https://www.premiumtimesng.com/business/business-news/494829-seplat-sets-start-date-for-key-gas-processing-project-in-imo.html

Seplat is doing this in conjunction with Nigeria Gas Company, a subsidiary of the NNPC.
