Former Senate Deputy President Ike Ekweremadu has withdrawn from the race for governor of Enugu State.

Ekweremadu has stated that he will not run in today's Peoples Democratic Party governorship primary election in Enugu State.

This was contained in a statement provided correspondent by his campaign organization on Wednesday morning.

Before announcing his withdrawal, Ekweremadu, who currently represents Enugu West Senatorial District in the Senate, was the state's leading governorship candidate.

Senator Jim Nwobodo, the former governor of old Anambra State, announced on Tuesday that the Enugu East Senatorial Zone had chosen Dr Peter Mbah as the next governor of Enugu State.

He also claimed that Senator Ekweremadu had endorsed Peter Mbah to succeed Ugwuanyi, despite the governor's refusal to publicly endorse anyone as his successor.

However, the Ekweremadu campaign organization quickly responded that it was false.

However, in what appeared to be a new twist, the campaign organization issued a statement titled "Senator Ekweremadu will not participate in PDP primary election" on Wednesday.

"I wish to inform our supporters and Nigerians that the former Deputy President of the Senate and foremost governorship aspirant in Enugu State, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, will not be participating in the PDP governorship primary election scheduled for this Wednesday, May 25, 2022," said the statement signed by Hon Charles Asogwa of the Ikeoha Campaign Organisation. Meanwhile, we continue to trust God while thanking our many supporters and the good people of Enugu State for their unending support in realizing the "Pathway to a New Enugu State."

“We urge them to remain peaceful and be assured that we will keep them abreast of our decision on the way forward.”

Wise of him

Though Enugu is not developing

But the political and cultural peace in the state is due to the perfect harmony that resulted from rotational government.

It is turn of Enugu east not Ekweremmadu’s senatorial zone’s turn to produce governor.

The people of enugu state have blessed him well enough, he should rest.

This good, but one day Igbos should give one of their politicians absolute power..

Because that'll greatly help their politicking, not having a single strong and powerful figure in Nigeria is a sign of weakness.
