Being "rich" is a question of location...

If you reside in Banana Island, Lagos, your living expenses will piss on your monthly 500K...

If you reside in Ikeja, you're a "big boy" and if you don't allow those runs girls at Ikeja City Mall to milk you dry, you may afford to buy a Nigerian used small sedan without Police case...

If you reside in Mowe, Ogun State, you can talk about acquiring a manageable size of land and maybe have an uncompleted building to your name in like a year...

If you decide to live in Baruten, Kwara State (near Benin Republic), with your 500K, you can easily be crowned a King.

So I was arguing with a friend who stays in the states and he keeps saying I am a rich guy.

Current salary is about 512k per month (take home), and has an annual increment of 15% of your take home. This is aside perks of perdiem anytime I travel outside work base (15k per night).

Anytime he wants me to have minor something done in NG on his bahalf, he expects me to use my money and whenever I ask, he tells me not to complain that I am rich (he knows what I earn), I don't have a problem doing those things for him.

I don't see myself rich and pls guys, what can someone earn in Nigeria to be termed rich. Your opinions will count alot as I still find it hard getting the usual daily stuffs we all use.
I am not married and do not have responsibilities. My mom is a retired govt worker and other siblings are all working.

Earning just north of 700k per month here, and I don't consider myself rich. Comfortable, maybe, but certainly not rich.

The truly rich are those buying #100 million presidential forms like pure water, and even to them, there's someone richer.

You are Rich Oga.
Money should never change you as a person if you can't save and invest with 10k then you can't with 10m.

If you want to really know a person inside and out look at how they spend their money you can easily know where and what they stand for.

Someone is even suggesting a guy who does not drink club or carry oloshi as living a boring life but here's what you must know that is their value and what they can do with money.

500k a month is supposed to be average income for a middle class person in Nigeria not rich.

You are a middle class citizen especially if you are still single.

If you are single, the income that qualifies you as rich in Nigeria is 2.5million and above monthly take home.

If you are married, it means 3.5million and above monthly take home, anytime less means you are a middle class not rich.

But to be realistic, you are not earning badly based on Nigerian situation, but don't let that bobo you, you still have a long way to go cos I have an elder bro who works for a big multinational and he earns around 1.5m monthly take home and believe me, he is not close to others running their own companies and earning heavily, so he still sees himself as struggling.

500k average salary in Nigeria? Same amount that can pay salary of entire staff of a small private primary/ secondary school monthly. Women and their wahala sha.
That lady you quoted is telling you the absolute truth.

500k monthly salary is an average income not rich. If the op is married and living in a high desnity city like Lagos, believe me, he will still be struggling to pay his bills and may never have savings at the end of the year.

Rich ke, can such salary afford him a brand new car of at least 20million and above? Can such salary afford him vacation to at least two popular cities in the world a year? I am not even talking about any other responsibilities like family dependents, I am talking about the lifestyles that qualifies one as rich; going on at least 2 vacations abroad a year, buying a good trendy luxury car, etc.

When you get married and started buying cerelac/daipers or paying school fees every 3months, you LL know that what you have there is a peanut.

Your friend is only taking advantage of you, stop running errand for him with your money even though you can afford it. He's earning in dollars over there. At least, let him pay for service once in a while

You're not rich but you're also not in the percentage of Nigerians that are poor. Many Nigerians earn below 60 k as salary, those who manage to get something 'better' earn 120k to 150k.
With 500k, you have just enough to live comfortably well in present day Nigeria! This will soon be a thing of the past, if the country continues to have same useless leaders, as hyperinflation turns your 500k into meaningless money!

Hi Uyai lol

I know 500k monthly salary in Nigeria isn't a small income lol, but honestly its very very far from qualifying anyone as rich.

But since the op is a young single guy, the salary isn't bad anyway, but he should not let his friend deceive him, he is very far from being rich lol, rich ke

When he gets married and start footing recurrent bills, then he will understand that he still have a very long street to walk to freedom lol. Hope you are good?
