Thanks for informing us. 90% of salary earners in Nigeria earn below 500k.

Your account statement will also help us validate this.
My brother don't be surprised, 500k salary in Nigeria is a good salary no doubt, but its very far from qualifying someone as rich lol.

If he lives a quality life, eats well like he ought to, help people he ought to assist as a Nigerian, his feeding alone as a single man will gulp at least 60k to 80k a month, his transport fare to and fro work maybe 30k to 50k, his social activities like 30k to 50k (this includes mild spending on his girlfriends and side chicks lol), his house rent 30k to 50k depending on the city he lives in Nigerian, phone calls and others say 20k. Sum all these and check what will be left for him.

Now imagine if he is married with wife and kids, and probably living in Lagos or Abuja or Ph ?

I am being practical for you as someone who have once been there like the op which is even some years years back, and I can tell you that salary is good but not close to rich person's expected income lol

My son alone who is below 3yrs gulp more than 100k on feeding, diapers and drinks, if you add cost of changing his toys, school fees, and nanny, it then means that my son alone may consume more than half of the Op's salary a month and still I am very far from being rich cheesy

My brother being rich no be small matter oh, it means going on foreign and local vacations a year, owning solid luxury cars not just the usual average Tokunbo cars, having professional chef or cooks and full domestic staff at home, living in a secured luxury apartment in a cool city, having some steady residual income, etc. All these least things expected of a rich person will gulp nothing less than 3million monthly to service lol

and please don't get me wrong, the op is doing well with such earnings in Nigeria and don't let my comments discourage you, but all I am trying to make the op understand is that 500k salary is too small to qualify him as a rich person in Nigeria

Once u ar in a family way no longer termed rich
ObosiUkwalla:
So I was arguing with a friend who stays in the states and he keeps saying I am a rich guy.

Current salary is about 512k per month (take home), and has an annual increment of 15% of your take home. This is aside perks of perdiem anytime I travel outside work base (15k per night).

Anytime he wants me to have minor something done in NG on his bahalf, he expects me to use my money and whenever I ask, he tells me not to complain that I am rich (he knows what I earn), I don't have a problem doing those things for him.

I don't see myself rich and pls guys, what can someone earn in Nigeria to be termed rich. Your opinions will count alot as I still find it hard getting the usual daily stuffs we all use.
I am not married and do not have responsibilities. My mom is a retired govt worker and other siblings are all working.

Cc: seun mynd44 pls help us for more audience and opinions

Know this and know peace, there are persons earning 500k who have achieved more than those earning millions and living better life's than what you mentioned.

Knowing your time matters most. Living an extravagant lifestyle doesn't make you rich, because deep down you lack management skills and in reality you keep going broke.

All what you mentioned earlier can be replaced and you still have a more comfortable life, cheaper.

Help me list just 10 common openings that pays above 500k in Nigeria.

I don't mean a proxy job or someone living outside Nigeria.

It's nothing for someone living abroad (some countries). But in Nigeria, you are a rich man.

Pls,what is the meaning of OP
meobizy:
It’s average salary in a working system. Nigeria is not a properly working system hence OP is seen as wealthy. If OP japa he’ll find out he’s only one level above high school graduates.

Everybody is here calculating yet only one comment has asked “what does OP do for a living?” Nairalanders and reactive ways; no different from their home country in reasoning.

Lol, I understand you very well brother, but please don't use the word "rich", biko I take God beg you, you can say comfortable but not rich. Being rich goes beyond earning 500k monthly salary bikozie.

Aside that, you are right in other points. But before you can be called rich, there are levels you must have attained not just a 500k salary will qualify one to be called rich whether in Naija or in Bokinafaso cheesy

And please the goal of employers isn't to pay you salary that will make you rich, but to make you comfortable enough to focus on your job and help their business empire grow, though some people become rich through working still, but not with 500k monthly salary unless the person is into shady office runs as known with most Nigerian civil servants and employees, sadly cry

My dear brother, 500k for a single guy in present day Nigeria is a very good pay.

You are a rich young man!

However, that depends on where you live. If you work and live in the heart of Lagos, you may not live as good as someone who earns same but lives in Ibadan or Abeokuta.

Please invest and marry right so you'll be really rich when marital responsibilities start.

It's the reason I decided to be selective with my replies here. I hope that when he gets to that point of earning 500k, a dollar wouldn't have risen to 1000N. People always think like that until they reach that phase. Na ear the money truly big.

N500k per month as a single guy without any responsibility at all is a very good opportunity for the guy to build his life to become rich in the future.

Even if his siblings are all working, that doesn't take away family responsibilities from him unless he intentionally decided to be a mean child or relative and ignore his relatives.

Mind you, I am the last child in my family and in fact, could be the least when it comes to financial stability, yet if I tell you my expenditure on family my parents, relatives, village people, classmates, etc, you will cry for me, and mind you, I am not complaining cos I am glad to be shuddering such responsibilities as an appreciation to God in my life, but I am just using it as example to pass a message wink
