That is the problem with people...!! As for me, I don't need to have money like Dangote, Otedola and the likes of them even if I aspire to be like them, As long as I can afford a comfortable lifestyle, I have my house, my cars, I can travel anywhere I want, I can comfortably pay bills and fund any business within my capabilities, lend assistance within my financial bouyancy...Then I'am definitely okay with life...!!

That's not the bone of contention here. I think the OP wasn't talking about contentment but wealth. I am also okay with what I have but I won't consider that as being rich.

People live large on that amount all over Nigeria.

Don't let social media make you people unnecessarily desperate.
Banana Island Ke? Your 500k per month (6 million
year) will barely pay your service charge for 3 months. I am not talking of rent yet.

Oga, ask around abeg!

Let's not argue!

Half a million even in today's inflation and pathetic Naira is not change. It is HUGE!

Y'all need to keep your heads down and stay in the moment! If 500k is too small for any Nigerian living in modest locations in Nigeria, then that person has serious problems. cool

I'm not arguing, I asked a simple question. Invest in what?

Nigeria runs an import based economy, china imports but china is highly self sufficient as well. Any increase in dollar affects everything in Nigeria so the exchange rate is highly important.
Offcourse there must be fluctuations in dollar rates, but that is left for the countries government to stabilize the economy with substantial policies...But my main point still remains looking at the condition of Nigeria, you will surely place tho earning 500K among the richer class...!!

Then with an annual rate of #6m, such person ought to have the financial capabilities to diversify his income unless he lacks ideas...

Lemme give you an idea, I already have plans to invest in human capital to sponsor atleast one person with footballing talents to the highest level, thoughts like this will create streams of indirect wealth without you breaking your bank, that's just one...#Keep it secret tho...grin

Speak for those that have zero in economics sha not me. With that pay I will enjoy my life here in Nigeria and never look for more. I will still save 250k per month at the end minimum. I live a minimal lifestyle, no smoking, drinking, clubbing, womanising nor friends and don't fancy social attention.

If you have to keep a minimum lifestyle you are already admitting the money isn't enough

So I was arguing with a friend who stays in the states and he keeps saying I am a rich guy.

Current salary is about 512k per month (take home), and has an annual increment of 15% of your take home. This is aside perks of perdiem anytime I travel outside work base (15k per night).

Anytime he wants me to have minor something done in NG on his bahalf, he expects me to use my money and whenever I ask, he tells me not to complain that I am rich (he knows what I earn), I don't have a problem doing those things for him.

I don't see myself rich and pls guys, what can someone earn in Nigeria to be termed rich. Your opinions will count alot as I still find it hard getting the usual daily stuffs we all use.
I am not married and do not have responsibilities. My mom is a retired govt worker and other siblings are all working.

Minimum wage in Nigeria is 33k and some people still earn lower than minimum wage.. so from 150k upward, you’re considered to be well employed and rich irrespective of your expenses (people only wanna know your income and not expenses)

Rich is another synonym for "wealthy". Please, get your facts right.

So, while saving the whole of that 500k for 5 years, what would he living on? Papers?

43M can not even buy a 5 bedroom duplex at Lekki Phase one. What's wrong with you guys?
in 10years time his total salary earned from his job would probably amount to over 150millon naira.

You think he won't be able to send his child to one of the best university in Nigeria with that?

You have to live in a 5 bedroom duplex in lekki before you are termed rich?

Well if he just started the work, he can't be called rich. But down the years, he will be rich.

I have someone who started earning over 2m naira per month last month, and the guy is still presently staying in his former room and parlour. Now tell me in 6month time, where do you think that guy will be?

I earn 1m+ monthly. I am not rich. I know what I'm saying. 1m is average in today's Nigeria.
U guys keep saying diversify the portfolio but nobody is saying anything.
Sponsoring someone to the highest level, with how much? Say u earn 6m, accomodation, 1m, feeding, transport etc 1m, with 4m tell me how you'll sponsor someone to the highest levels grin grin grin. Ask the guy who made this post if he has 4m in savings so you'll know that u can't even save 4m with a salary of 6m unless you live exactly like someone who earns 50k. The exact same way. Live in face me I slap you, eat in the cheapest bukka, buy 2nd hand clothes, jump bus and trek to work. Anything outside this sort of lifestyle, you can't even save 3m.

It's not show off. The naira is depreciating per second squared. My wife and I took 150k to ketu to buy foodstufs and groceries for the month (for a family of 6). After view what we could buy, I almost cried. A bag of rice was N30,000. 10 tubers of yam was N17,000. Beans and even garri has rocketed to the moon.

This thread will advice guys planing on starting a family on the challenges ahead.

Irrespective of if your rich or not he should not be expecting you to pay for stuff for him all the time.

Once in a while is fine but this sounds entitled and like he is taking the piss.
