My father didn't earn that much but he comfortably sponsored me and my 3 siblings from kindergarten to university level without third party so what are you saying...

The earlier you realize in life everything boils down to planning and sacrifice, the better for you...!!
In your father's days , free quality education exist in public schools from primary to secondary.

In those days , University fees were less than minimum wage

You are rich but your friend is a threat to your life
ObosiUkwalla:
So I was arguing with a friend who stays in the states and he keeps saying I am a rich guy.

Current salary is about 512k per month (take home), and has an annual increment of 15% of your take home. This is aside perks of perdiem anytime I travel outside work base (15k per night).

Anytime he wants me to have minor something done in NG on his bahalf, he expects me to use my money and whenever I ask, he tells me not to complain that I am rich (he knows what I earn), I don't have a problem doing those things for him.

I don't see myself rich and pls guys, what can someone earn in Nigeria to be termed rich. Your opinions will count alot as I still find it hard getting the usual daily stuffs we all use.
I am not married and do not have responsibilities. My mom is a retired govt worker and other siblings are all working.

Exactly. Mainland. Ikeja GRA and Co. angry
I can't believe this is me going against Lekki. angry Because Lekki is still my favorite part of Lagos, judging by the night life and the girls there cheesy
I just hate the fact that every tom and Jerry always use Lekki as a yardstick for 'decent' standard of living in Nigeria. Or where High income earners lives. Lmfao. So many fake people lives there. People owing 3 monthly rental fees just to feel among. People that have no business staying in the Island. And for their mind they know what's up. The Okada thingy and accessibility is really an eyesore for a supposed High income location.

Lol even over here, I earn roughly N300k per month with not much responsibilities and I have never for one day considered myself rich like WTF lol 500k Is Just $1000. Buharii have truly finished these Zombies..grin

You can't blame Nigerians. They have been traumatised by poverty kick-started by IBB's SAP and concluded by Buhari. The now view basic things taken for granted in other places as being rich. Things like eating a balanced diet, eating at least 2 square meals a day, drinking clean water, having electricity 24/7, wearing new cloths instead of discarded imported cloths, attending good schools, having a basic mode of transportation, living in a nice comfortable house, etc, as being rich. They have redefined being rich as having the basics amenities of life. They think living just means existing.

Can 500k provide basic standard of living for a family of 5?
That 500k will provide the same standard of living for someone earning a middle range income in the UK. Even people living on dole in council flats will have a better standard of living.

Earning 500k and saving let's say 300k, can't get your portable car in 5months. 300 in 5months is just 1.5m. which portable car you want buy with that? Then, building a house in your village whike living in the city is a useless investment. Unless your village is either in lagos or Abuja or some other big town. Yet you can't build a house with a monthly 300k savings in a year, unless na face me I slap you house

That's roughly over a thousands dollars in a month.
Well, truth be told. On the Nigerian terrain, its a good pay. Your lifestyle and responsibilities determine your productivity in a net sum.
On the other hand, if you live in the US, that's about or slightly below the monthly earning of an average cleaner, paid on hourly basis. Garbage collectors earn higher.
Also if you're a programmer, then you're under paid.
But since Naija is all messed up, then you're someone's dream to be. Just make the best out of it. Its an offer many will die to grab on this terrain. More grease to your elbow.

And the bag of rice you buy will be consumed within a month bah?
I'm not say it the right analysis,
But how many percentage is earning 500k?
90% of salary earner receive blow 300k monthly in Lagos, Abuja, and PH....

Rice is our main diet, so we consume a bag in 2 months.

That's why they say 70% of Nigerians live below the poverty line. How can you justify earning below 300k while a bag of rice is N30k, petrol is N165, bottle water is N100, kerosene is 700/litre, cement is N4,500, electricity is N50/Kwh, etc. That's deliberately pauperising the people and justifying corruption, stealing, yahoo and ritual money.

I suppose you have no responsibilities?

You will live an average life, yes. But, you can not be called rich.

You can be called rich, but you're not. People don't define if you're rich. They only come to terms with the reality of an obvious result derived from strategic planning. Rich is your net worth; assets and funds, not expenses.
What I'm saying is someone earning that sum can liberate himself from poverty, to becoming rich, with adequate planning and investment. There should be skills to better or gather, business schemes to work on... Unless the only plan on ground na to feed mouths, pay house rents and bills. Fine. Of course that's also another way of living too.

Baba, he's comfortable, no doubt. But rich? If you think I'm talking rubbish start from now and start putting down your daily expenses. Don't put down flex expenses, just daily necessities expenses and you will realise the amount you spend daily. Sum it up a month and fear go catch you.

With 500k a month you will be comfortable but not rich. 500k if you save it in a year is just 6 million. That's just enough to buy a good car, not a rich man's car. I hope you get it now?
