So recently our family has decided to change our state of Origin to Rivers State due to the denial of our right in the place of birth of my grandfather.

My grandfather was born to a Rivers Woman who wasn't allowed to marry due to the tradition of that time. The man that sired my grandfather is from Ukwa East LGA of Abia State. The man and my great grand mum are both of the same tribe, the Ndoki tribe which is in Abia, Akwa Ibom and Rivers State.

My grandfather bought land in the village of the man that sired him (Abia State) and settled. This is because they said by custom since his mother was not married, he has no privilege or inheritance in the family of birth, that is his father's compound. To date, we are not regarded as part of the compound of his birth. He even had to buy a piece of land from his brothers (family land) for some of his sons.

Due to this, we were recently told that we are not from the community my grandfather was born and grew up in. We are now denied some privileges for natives of the community.

For this reason, we seek to change our state of origin to reflect that of my grandfather's mother, which they said is our ancestral home. Although before now, the family of my grandfather's mum usually mediate in family issues that arrises in my grandfather's family and not the compound where he was born.

This is why I am asking if it is possible to change state of origin because I have been using Ukwa East, Abia State before now in all my documents, likewise my sibling.

I will be grateful if you guys will help me out because I actually have plans to join politics in my place and would not want anything to obstruct me.

Are you sure that it can't be changed? How about children that were born to another father and adopted by the husband that intend to marry their mother?

Let the family you want in Rivers adopt you people formally. Go to court and formalize it.

start by changing ur surname or turn am to compound name to show u are related to Rivers. D rest na sumol tin. Go to ur Rivers LGA and collect letter from ur Oba and family head and datsall.
