Oga I am angry at the situation of Nigeria. I am indeed very angry about it.
I am a salary earning civil servant in my late thirties.

I do not see a pathway to moving to another country because I am too old for that and I have family members who depend on me.
Shouting at me to japa after every disaster is truly insulting to me. I choose to be optimistic that things will eventually get better. Maybe once the cabal in Nigeria dies off or the young people wake up, then things will indeed get better but for you to be shouting japa at me everytime there is a disaster here when I know I am stuck in this country is indeed insulting to me.
You should also advocate for us to get it right with our leadership or lend opinions that gear towards solving the problem not just to shout japa at a civil servant like me.

You said it yourself.

You're a father of 3 on 128k monthly salary. I don't mean to be insensitive so I will try to pick my words carefully.

I cannot imagine the struggle, but I can recognise and empathise with you. I cannot in all good conscience though ever insinuate that there is hope for Nigera, as there is none.

Inflation will continue to eat at your income, and as you're a career civil servant, you are unlikely to easily transition to private sector in Nigeria. You are now at the mercy of your governor assuming you're a state civil servant, or whoever it is at federal level.

It's salary and pension they are using to pay delegates and campaign over the next few months.

I'm sorry if you feel insulted by the japa talk, but if you think it's going to get better, then who knows.

I will leave the subject now out of respect for your post. I wish you all thr beat though.

Give up on politicians
Give up on your PVC, it’s useless.
Give up on Nigeria. It’s finished.

Keep hustling and making ends to package yourself and family, if possible, seek better opportunities, but while doing this, always keep JAPA at the back of your mind. It’s very important.

Once you prioritize something, chances of getting it executed becomes higher. There’s a reason broke ladies are using Iphone13 even where they’re very broke with less than 100k in their aza. They prioritized IPHONE, they worked towards it.

I just told you I am in my midlife. To God be the glory, I am not hungry, I'm earning an average salary, my children are in school where I pay about 350 thousand yearly for their school fees cumulatively, although my wife subsidizes with this with her 65k salary. I pay rent of 200 thousand and at the end still pay school fees for some nephews and nieces in the village. Tell me where I would see money to plan for japa?
My only hope is to vote and hope my vote will count. You are in nigeria with me and you are shouting japa after people just died and at the same time saying you would not vote. Check am out na.

Before I continue, I never discouraged anyone from Japaing. It’s impossible to do so sef. I only expressed that whenever tragedy happens, shouting japa japa is insensitive to a lot of people. A lot of people want to japa but they don’t have the financial resources to japa, a lot don’t even think about japa at all. Almost 50% of people in the country stays in the rural community and they are always 80% of the time the victim of these criminal attacks. How many of these people in the rural areas have the means to Japa? That’s why I said Japa is not the solution, it doesn’t mean people should not JAPA.

You raised an important point which ib.ime raised when we had this discussion. That’s why I said an “Effective” community policing will solve most of these insecurities because all the security architecture will be local. We can still have an agency will FBI which will be controlled by the Federal government but the security must be decentralizing to each community. While it is true that Governors might abuse this powers, it’s still safer than having alot of ungoverned space which criminals thrive in.

If you remembered we had a discussion about this database matter, I do agree with you that we need to have a centralized database instead of different agency collecting data without harmonizing it.

While the country problems are homogeneous, it can be tackled and solved one after the other.

Your first paragraph reiterates why I say Japa can not solve any nation's problem, because Nigeria's issues are more complex than an individual desire to Japa. The conversation of Japa is not new, it has been going on and will continue, it only becomes heightened when things like what happened in Owo happen again.

You must also concede that the realities of Nigeria over the last decade, worsestill now, makes the conversation about Japa inevitable because it has become dire and there seems to be no way out, especially for young people who are watching their prime years slip by. You have to understand that a lot of people are coming from a place of frustration as they watch the country continue to slip even further with no reprieve in sight.

When I started my conversation regarding this Japa, I made it clear that Japa is not for everyone but for those who meet certain criteria, including the mental aspect, it will be in their best interest and that of their future generations to consider Japa, especially young people. Nigeria has some of the brightest minds in the world but they are being held back in Nigeria.

Yes, I remember that conversation. A strong database is the bedrock of any modern society and until we get that done there is no way Nigeria can sustainably secure the nation and it's economy. Without a strong database, the idea of community policing is just a waste of time and resources which will get us no where. In the mean time, what can be done? In the mean time where can Nigerians run to for reprieve? nowhere, absolutely no where. Right now, the country is not even being governed because of the elections. Everyone is in Abuja and nothing is getting done.

We can save Nigeria, if sincerely we are ready. Larride is only recognised Party man on this Board, what about the rest of us?

We have to get involved, if indeed we want to save Nigeria. Join a political party, start now and work your way to become at least a Delegate in 2026.

It's never too late to start from somewhere. If we are tired of them, let's take our turn.

Well we seems to agree on most of each other points.

We already have the database, we just need to harmonize it into a centralized base for easy access for law enforcement agencies. This is Doable.

Where the issue lay is how to structure the community policing and how to go about the funding. After that we need to start talking about recruitment into the police force. The force is grossly understaffed, to effectively police this country, we need a minimum of 1m police officers. We currently have 370k police officers. Please how exactly do 370k officers want to police a country of over 200m people? These are the issues.

In the mean time where can Nigerians run to for reprieve? nowhere, absolutely no where. Right now, the country is not even being governed because of the elections. Everyone is in Abuja and nothing is getting done.

At the bolded, I keep asking, do you think there is anyone with the means to japa that has not done that? If you check it well, you see that the vast majority of people who japa are those from rich families, those who have rich relatives who sponsor them abroad or who are already there themselves and are willing to help or parents who can cater or sponsor their kids abroad.

Then you ask yourself; how many Nigerians have these privilege? In a country of 200 million, how realistic is it to be shouting japa? And the. Apart from shouting the japa, you also shout, nigeria has no hope? That's not constructive criticism? That's just rant. At the end of the day only 10 percent of the population can afford to japa.

Have you even thought of the situation where the countries reject those that can afford to go there? Last 2 years, my man Trump banned nigerians and 5 other countries from entering USA. What do you say to that?

Of course to japa is good, but at the end, they say no place like home, so in essence you are saying, all of us should give up hope of Nigeria ever being good? And might i even add, nigeria does have her problems, but is it as bad as Ukraine or Vietnam or or Congo? Some countries have it worse, we are blessed and cursed. Blessed with resources, cursed with bad leadership. We just need to sort our leadership problem.

Peter Obi left PDP because Atiku took the VP slot off the table

And Atiku did that because he knew that he wouldn't get bloc votes from the SE

You know why? Kanu and Ekpa would not let elections hold. It would be unfruitful to him having Obi as a VP

From Osita Chidoka

Two years ago, I approached Gov. Peter Obi, Sen.
Ike Ekweremadu, and Sen. Pius Anyim and spoke
on the phone with Gov. Dave Umahi with a single
message – run for the Presidency of the Federal
Republic of Nigeria. Gov. Peter Obi, at two
meetings, told me he would not like to run
against Atiku Abubakar and would consider a
run if the party zoned the presidency to the
Southeast.
Sen Ekweremadu expressed his
preference for the Governorship of Enugu State.
Sen Anyim said he was watching the terrain,

especially the zoning arrangement and would
feed me back. Gov. Umahi was non-committal. I
continued the engagement as I believed that these
men had sufficient name recognition and
networks that would aid a competitive run.
