Investment Bank VS Commercial Banks - Which Is A Better Choice To Invest by EkelediliBuhari: 8:23am On Jun 09, 2022
Ponzi schemes have been a major blow to the average Nigerian. they always take advantage of information gap to create a hoax of massive returns on investment to subscribers. However, the major reason why people fall into these schemes is as below;

1. Get rich quick syndrome
2. Inability to access investment houses
3. Low interest rate from available commercial banks
4. Lack of information and
5. Unending testimonials and advertorials from ponzi investments.

No 5 is a major issue as these ponzi schemes never fail to get noticed. they are more advertised to even the average market woman and the prospect of a mouth watering can hardly be ignored.

Ill do a quick case study of a well known commercial bank and their investment bank subsidiary;

United bank of Africa - UBA and United Capital - UBA Capital

UBA
A well known and renowned bank. below is a quick summary of their performance in the past 2 years - 2020 and 2021;

2021 2020
Total Asset N8.4trillion N7.6trillion
Net profit N118billion N109billion

Net profit Margin 1.41% 1.42%

See link below;

UBA Capital
Also well known, However mistaken as a branch of UBA most times. They are an investment arm of the company and focus on investing the funds of subscribers only. Captured below is there performance in the last 2 fiscal years
2021 2020
Total Asset N453billion N222billion
Net profit N11.2billion N7.8billion

Net profit Margin 2.48% 3.51%

See link Below;

The quick simulation above shows they UBA capital - the investment arm has been able to achieve way more than their counterpart - UBA.

i.e. although the overall figures look good for UBA, UBA Capital would have been able to achieve almost double its profit if it had access to the amount of funds the have.

In summary, investment banks are good places to invest out funds as opposed to ponzi and get rich quick schemes. True the profits are single digits currently, but the long term gains are safety of funds and ability to plan your earnings over a long period of time. Below are a list of legitimate companies that offer investment banking services;

1. United Capital
2. ARM pensions
3, Zenith Capital
4. FBN Capital Limited
5. Investment One Financial Services
6. Bancorp Capital Finance.

There are a whole lot of them out there. and i encourage everyone to invest their funds in them instead of the likes of CHinmark, MBA forex, AdiFX etc.
