...........As Yobe North APC Senatorial Candidate Refuses To Step Down For Number 3 Citizen

All efforts by Lawan’s cronies to convince Machina to step down for the president of the Senate failed as the senatorial candidate insisted that he would not withdraw.

Yobe North: I Won’t Step Down For Lawan – Machina

The candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Yobe North Senatorial District, Bashir Sheriff Machina, last night vowed not to step down for the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan.

Machina, in an exclusive interview with Daily Trust, said he contested the party’s senatorial ticket and the delegates overwhelmingly voted for him.

Following the defeat of Lawan at the just-concluded presidential primary, there have been moves to reclaim the Yobe North ticket for him.

Lawan has been representing the senatorial district since 2007 when he crossed over from the House of Representatives to the Red Chamber.

Machina said he is ready to slug it out with the candidates of other political parties at the February 25 elections.

“As far as I’m concerned, I contested for the Yobe North senatorial ticket and I won the election. I was confirmed elected because there were other contestants but I was the one that was qualified. I happened to be unopposed.

“I am still the candidate; I have not withdrawn and I will not withdraw for anybody. I am being approached by some persons but I will not withdraw, Insha Allah,” he said.

A party member loyal to Machina, Hussaini Mohammed Isa confirmed to Daily Trust that a lot of pressure was mounted on the candidate to hand over the APC senatorial ticket to Lawan.

He, however, faulted the move by some leaders, saying that Machina laboured for the ticket.

On their part, Lawan’s supporters said they want him to continue representing the senatorial district in the Red Chamber.

Saleh Mohammed maintained that Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan is so far the best performing senator ever produced by the zone.

DAILY TRUST

The Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, is on the verge of suffering two losses within a week as the winner of the Yobe North All Progressives Congress senatorial primary, Bashir Machina, has refused to step down for him.

Lawan, who represents Yobe North in the Senate, contested and lost a bid to secure the APC presidential ticket at the party’s national convention held on June 8, where Bola Tinubu emerged the winner.

The president of the Senate was initially touted as the consensus candidate of the party, but 13 Northern governors kicked against the idea of retaining power in the North.

Daily Nigerian reports that since the winner of the senatorial primaries refused to step down, the Senate president is now mounting pressure on the presidency to get back his senatorial ticket.

All efforts by Lawan’s cronies to convince Machina to step down for the president of the Senate failed as the senatorial candidate insisted that he would not withdraw.

According to sources, Lawan was secretly given the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) form by the APC headquarters to fill for submission, although he didn’t submit himself for party screening and didn’t participate in the senatorial primary election which took place in Gashua town on May 28.

In the primaries, Mr Machina, who was the sole candidate, got 289 votes.

According to sources, Lawan, in concert with the APC National Vice Chairman, North East, Mustapha Salihu, is trying to ‘forcefully take over’ the ticket from Machina.

However, the APC National Vice Chairman, North East told Daily Nigerian that he never interfered in the decisions of the party in Yobe.

“I don’t interfere with local party arrangement in states. Yobe has its own unique way of primaries, which is a general consensus.

“All aspirants who obtained the party’s nomination forms nationwide have filled the withdrawal forms, which is a clear consent to withdraw in case of any superior interest, and with the consent of the party stakeholders in the state.

“I’m aware that it is a national party policy for aspirants who lost the presidential ticket to return to their seats in the Senate. You can see Godswill Akpabio has already reclaimed his senatorial ticket,” Salihu added.

Next is to use DSS or police harass the innocent man.

The rat has catch the trap

Lawan should just say bye bye to senate after 20 yrs.

Heard same thing happened to Akpabio

He should read the book of Bukola Saraki and Bala Mohammed on how to retrieve your ticket.

Even Orji is not sure of coming back to the Senate. LP and PDP will be sweeping the polls in the East. APC is seen as an anathema and their supporters would be treated as terrorists in Igboland.

This dude no get brain, if he goes back to the Senate in 2023, he will be rendered redundant. Tinubu isn't Buhari that will sit and watch him become Senate's President like Saraki.
If Atiku should win, he will try all he can to make sure that seat goes to the south if Apc is the majority in the house, if pdp is the majority, he might not care about where it goes, but it won't be to an Apc member.

See talk, I hope you are not one of the people crying about how some people were stopped from registering in Alaba. You're not different from the touts that stopped people from registering.

We need to understand this is democracy, and we need to respect people's choice. If people in the North or South says they will treat Labour supporters like terrorists in Hausa and Yoruba land now, you go start wailing bitterly.
