Reality3080: Have you heard/seen any Christian picking a Christian VP in Nigeria presidential election before. It's only tinubu and his urchins that is trying to bring that up in Nigeria politics. The South like bringing up rubbish only to turn back and cry wolve when the north take advantage of their initiative. |

Olatunji1929:Sit down and wait for God to bring you a messiah. Don't act. If God can allow the Isrelites, whom he called his own chosen people, to walk for 40 years through the wilderness and red sea to the promised land, then don't expect to be pampered. You must work out your salivation from the grip of these wicked leaders. The delegates have collected bribes to give you the worst as usual, use your vote to protest. No harm in trial. |

Further evidence of how christians are politicizing religion and religionizing politics. The hypocrites would have you believe that Muslims are the ones carrying out some fallacy called "Islamisation of Nigeria". Meanwhile they'll preach on TV and radio that Nigerians should dissociate politics with religion. Two-faced bastards. Voting is people's right, and they've the liberty to exercise that right or not. But then, the church has always been in control of its mindless sheep. |

Muslims preach this in the mosque, they encourage their people to be actively involved in politics, why shouldn't the Christians do the same ? |

Owologbo: He has every right. He’s their pastor. And as their pastor he has every right to ensure the wellbeing of not just their soul but their body also. And one of the ways to ensure the wellbeing of their body is to ensure they vote right in the oncoming election. That they vote someone who would ensure their head doesn’t get decapitated from their body and that they at least have food to eat. |

*Voting Rights Church Teaching* The fourth commandment extends to the duties of pupils to teachers, employees to employers, subordinates to leaders, citizens to their country, and to those who administer or govern it. _Catechism of the Catholic Church_ The people are called on to take an always larger part in the public life of the nation. This participation brings with it grave responsibilities. Hence the necessity for the faithful to have clear, solid, precise knowledge of their duties in the moral and religious domain with respect to their exercise of their civil rights, and in particular of the right to vote. _Pope Pius XII_ *The exercise of the right to vote is an act of grave moral responsibility, at least with respect to the electing of those who are called to give to a country, its constitution and its laws*, and in particular those that affect the sanctification of holy days of obligation, marriage, the family, schools and the just and equitable regulation of many social questions. It is the Church’s duty to explain to the faithful the moral duties that flow from this electoral right. _Pope Pius XII_ *In the present circumstances, it is a strict obligation for all those who have the right to vote, men and women, to take part in the elections. Whoever abstains from doing so, in particular by indolence or weakness, commits a sin grave in itself, a mortal fault*. Each one must follow the dictate of his own conscience. However, it is obvious that the voice of conscience imposes on every Catholic to give his vote to the candidates who offer truly sufficient guarantees for the protection of the rights of God and of souls, for the true good of individuals, families and of society, according to the love of God and Catholic moral teaching. _Pope Pius XII_ Let us keep in mind the principle of subsidiarity, which grants freedom to develop the capabilities present at every level of society, while also demanding a greater sense of responsibility for the common good from those who wield greater power. _Pope Francis_ Love compels us “to go into all the world and proclaim the good news to the whole creation (Mk 16:15)”The creation’ refers to every aspect of human life; consequently, ‘the mission of proclaiming the good news of Jesus Christ has a universal destination. Its mandate of charity encompasses all dimensions of existence, all individuals, all areas of community life, and all peoples. Nothing human can be alien to it’” This “mandate” includes our engagement in political life. _U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops_ We encourage Catholics throughout the United States to be active in the political process. _U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops_ The Church’s obligation to participate in shaping the moral character of society is a requirement of our faith. _U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops_ Catholics who bring their moral convictions into public life do not threaten democracy or pluralism, but enrich them and the nation. The separation of church and state does not require division between belief and public action, between moral principles and political choices, but protects the right of believers and religious groups to practice their faith and act on their values in public life. _U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops_ Catholics need to act in support of their principles and policies in public life. *It is the particular vocation of the laity to transform the world*. _U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops_ Some question whether it is appropriate for the Church to play a role in political life. However, the obligation to teach the moral truths that should shape our lives, including our public lives, is central to the mission given to the Church by Jesus Christ. Moreover, the United States Constitution protects the right of individual believers and religious bodies to participate and speak out without government interference, favoritism, or discrimination. Civil law should fully recognize and protect the right of the Church and other institutions in civil society to participate in cultural, political, and economic life without being forced to abandon or ignore their central moral convictions. Our nation’s tradition of pluralism is enhanced, not threatened, when religious groups and people of faith bring their convictions and concerns into public life. Indeed, our Church’s teaching is in accord with the foundational values that have shaped our nation’s history: “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” _U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops_ The Catholic community brings important assets to the political dialogue about our nation’s future. We bring a consistent moral framework—drawn from basic human reason that is illuminated by Scripture and the teaching of the Church—for assessing issues, political platforms, and campaigns. We also bring broad experience in serving those in need—educating the young, serving families in crisis, caring for the sick, sheltering the homeless, helping women who face difficult pregnancies, feeding the hungry, welcoming immigrants and refugees, reaching out in global solidarity, and pursuing peace. We celebrate, with all our neighbors, the historically robust commitment to religious freedom in this country that has allowed the Church the freedom to serve the common good. _U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops_ Lay people are not only bound to penetrate the world with a Christian spirit, but are also called to be witnesses to Christ in all things in the midst of human society. _The Catholic Bishops of the World at the Second Vatican Council_ *In the Catholic Tradition, responsible citizenship is a virtue, and participation in political life is a moral obligation*. People in every nation enhance the social dimension of their lives by acting as committed and responsible citizens. *The obligation to participate in political life is rooted in our baptismal commitment to follow Jesus Christ and to bear Christian witness in all we do*. As the Catechism of the Catholic Church reminds us, *“It is necessary that all participate, each according to his position and role, in promoting the common good. This obligation is inherent in the dignity of the human person. .As far as possible citizens should take an active part in public life.”* _U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops_ Politics, though often denigrated, remains a lofty vocation and one of the highest forms of charity, in-as-much as it seeks the common good. I beg the Lord to grant us more politicians who are genuinely disturbed by the state of society, the people, the lives of the poor. _Pope Francis_ The Catholic call to faithful citizenship affirms the importance of political participation and insists that public service is a worthy vocation. As citizens, we should be guided more by our moral convictions than by our attachment to a political party or interest group. When necessary, our participation should help transform the party to which we belong; we should not let the party transform us in such a way that we neglect or deny fundamental moral truths or approve intrinsically evil acts. We are called to bring together our principles and our political choices, our values and our votes, to help build a civilization of truth and love. _U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops_ The Church wishes to help form consciences in political life and to stimulate greater insight into the authentic requirements of justice as well as greater readiness to act accordingly, even when this might involve conflict with situations of personal interest. . . . The Church cannot and must not take upon herself the political battle to bring about the most just society possible. She cannot and must not replace the State. Yet at the same time she cannot and must not remain on the sidelines in the fight for justice. _Pope Benedict_ Catholic lay women and men can become actively involved running for office; working within political parties; communicating their concerns and positions to elected officials; and joining diocesan social mission or advocacy networks, state Catholic conference initiatives, community organizations, and other efforts to apply authentic moral teaching in the public square. Even those who cannot vote have the right to have their voices heard on issues that affect their lives and the common good. _U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops_ The Church insists on the existence of objective moral norms which are valid for everyone. _U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops_ Click on these links for more information: Archdiocese of St. Paul/Minneapolis https://www.cctwincities.org/education-advocacy/catholic-social-teaching/notable-quotations/ |
