Ttalk:With all due respect, you are very wrong in your assertion that Igbos disdain Yorubas politically. I don't want to go back to political issues of 1966 because we won't ever come to a honest agreement on the events of that era, so the argument will end in a truce. Let's start from 1999 that is not so distant from us and many members here. Alex Ekwueme was the key founder of PDP, he also had the intentions of using PDP to achieve his lifelong ambition of becoming Nigeria's President but then the issue of Abiola saga came onboard and there was a common agreement that Southwest the Yorubas needed some succour and they had a gentleman agreement to cede the presidency to Yorubas and for that Obasanjo was freed from jail and made PDP Presidential candidate. Ekwueme insisted that he was the founder and deserved to fly the party's ticket, other founding members told him to please allow it to go to Yorubas, Ekwueme said okay but let me still go ahead and contest so our party's primaries will look democratic. On the other end was a second party the ACN which was a merger party, one having Olu Falae as flagbearer and the other having Ogbonnaya Onu as flagbearer before their merger. But the party chieftains of the both parties told Ogbonnaya Onu to step down for Olu Falae in the interest of fairness to allow Yorubas produce the President to assuage the death of Abiola, and Ogbonnaya Onu accepted their suggestion and gave a statement buttressing why he was stepping down for Olu Falae. That was how two Yorubas emerged as the Presidential flagbearers of the two contending parties in 1999. Igbos massively voted for Obasanjo and at the end Obasanjo emerged President and ruled for 8 years and handed over to Yaradua from NW. Yaradua died and his VP, Goodluck emerged President and it went back to Buhari from NW with Osinbajo a Yoruba VP. Igbos supported Obasanjo twice that he contested without any prejudice you can go and check the results, and reason people called PDP Igbo party. Now 2023 is coming, all eminent Yoruba elites have been speaking the truth that it is the turn of Southeast, including Olu Falae that Yorubas so much loved. Even Obasanjo that hardly talk on such issues also came out to say it is the turn of Igbos in 2023 for equity and fairness. One APC Chieftain, a Yoruba man, Prince Ebunoluwa or so granted an interview to Arise TV last year and said it point blank that if Nigerians and particularly APC wants to be fair and just, that APC should zone the 2023 Presidency to Southeast to douse tensions and to also make Igbos feel belonged. He said he has suggested to his father and brother Bola Ahmed Tinubu to please not contest but support an Igbo man in APC to clinch the post, that that was the most honorable thing to do. Many other Yorubas came out to say same but Tinubu refused to listen. Now back to the perceived hatred Igbos have for Tinubu, it all started in 2015 election that some tribalistic statements against Igbos were attributed to Tinubu and wife, plus Lagos Oba Akiolu infamous drown in The Lagoon statement against Igbos and the later use of thugs aka Agberos in Lagos to stop Igbos from voting in Lagos. Before then, there was no kind of dislike for Tinubu among Igbos resident in Lagos especially until after 2015. Now if you are honest and honorable enough brother, you would agree with me that Igbos have supported and voted almost all the regions of Nigeria to produce President; Obasanjo, Yaradua, Goodluck, and is it too much for Igbos to expect Yorubas to at least reciprocate the support in 2023? That's why Igbos feel so enraged and angry with Yorubas cos they have supported one Yoruba son to emerge President in 1999 and 2003, and at least equity and fairness demands that Yorubas support just one Igbo to occupy same post, even if its Rochas or Orji Uzo Kalu or Ngige or any other Igbo person that Igbos don't really like, at least that will make Igbos feel belonged and that would have solidify the Southern unity we all pray for. 3 Likes |

This is a bold step....one that none of the other contestants have been worthy of doing since...Tinubu has been alleged to be the mole in NADECO through which Abacha was able to get Abiola imprisoned and thus dares not go there...Atiku on the other hand is a northerner whose tribesman killed Late President Abiola. The fear is that just as Abiola was loved by the masses ..but was eventually killed..and Tinubu has been alleged by word of mouth to have been responsible for Funsho William's Murder.. that Obi's win if it comes to happen doesn't get nullified/disrupted...or his life lost...cause both opposing parties are very capable of carrying out both actions |

Everybody is shouting June 12 who made that June 12 to be possible? The Yurobas in as much as you hate the Igbos know that it was an Igbo man that made June 12 a reality against all odds, and against military tyrants. Humphrey Nwosu the icon of democracy... The INEC chairman who announced Abiola the winner of 1993 election against as Babaginda threat...he paid dearly for it. |

franchasofficia: The problem with Igbo is they approach politics with emotion rather than being truthful to themselves. You make it sound as if PDP was a brainchild of only Alex Ekwueme. That's is complete misappropriation of fact, unlike APC that was spearheaded by Tinubu and Buhari, PDP was formed by groups of old politicians majorly from the north and South, PDP formation was never Alex Ekweme thing but has much influence from old and retired generals. The group that formed PDP is known as G-18 later increased to G-34 The argument about the role played by Igbo in pre 1999 and in 1998 PDP primary is well documented and has been trashed on so many occasion on this platform. Alex contested against Obasanjo and lost. Abiola did not win 4 of 5 Igbo state in the election. These are verifiable records that no narration can change. Justifying the hatred against Tinubu on account of Oba of Lagos statement and Tinubus wife is so unfortunate, when in actual fact Tinubu appointed Igbo to handle key position in his government. Yoruba know your hatred toward Tinubu is simply because he is a Yoruba man and that has really help Tinubu to gain sympathy among concerned Yoruba who see the hatred as an affront to the Yoruba race. It defiled any logic to demand APC microzone it's candidate to SE when PDP that your people worked for for 23years could not seem it fit. That's another emotional entitlement that doesn't work in politics. You failed to assert your authority in a party you have more influence only to result in blackmail from another party. Now let me inform you that APC didn't have zoning arrangement in their constitution it is PDP that has a written arrangement in their party's constitution to zone between north and south. Zoning is a party decision and not ethnic decision, don't blame Yoruba for decision of APC. Let me inform you that you isolate your region when you embark on it is Igbo turn, when you should have promote South turn and then lobby among ethnic groups in the South. Igbo has a better chance of becoming president only and until they align with Yoruba and settle their political differences. We are waiting to see the voting pattern from our brothers from SE in the coming election 1 Like |

solmusdesigns:For your first statement, TINUBU was in Chicago running his cartel during the struggle, buying filling stations and enjoying himself In the whole of Southwest only Osun kept the holidays prior to buhari. As for 1993. Igbos gave Abiola almost 50% of their votes, 47.5% to be precise even with Tofa having an Igbo vice. A gesture yorubas might never reciprocate especially when the opponent has a Yoruba vice. When you click the link below, scroll down add all percentages of votes by SE states divide by 4 (the number is SE states by then) you will see the truth not the lies that breed hate that was told to you like the picture below https://www.thecable.ng/flashback-full-result-controversial-june-12-93-election/amp As for your last statement. Your beloved Buhari was a bigger culprit compared to any other present politician yet you guys fell in love with him. Kingigbe even denied Abiola and worked with Abacha. Ttalk:People like you amuse me. You twist things to suit your narrow-minded perspective... It is obvious that the concepts of equity and fairness are anathemas to people like you. You dredge up some ridiculous logic to support the presidency going to the Yorubas the second time when one of the three major tribes, which constitute the tripod on which Nigeria stands, is yet to have a turn. Would you countenance what looks convenient to you if the scales were to be turned? If demanding justice and fairness makes the Igbos emotional and entitled-leaning, then we will remain more than happy to dorn those togas. |
