Though it's nothing new. There's was a research in US military expert that even uphold the importance of artillery strike and advantages of indirect line of fire. The US army is even trying through DARPA to increases their artillery ranges through rocket enhanced shells and precision with GPS guided shells something still not in the Russian Arsenal yet. Indeed. However keep in mind that the main spearhead in Mariupol was the Russian elite Naval Infantry. They are the ones responsible for the successful push down south and into Mariupol. They played the major role there.
