Something happened this morning on my way to work.

I joined a bus to work this morning that was filled with persons going to work as myself and some going to the market.( You could tell from the bags they carried).

We approached a bus stop that was crowded with people. The bus driver stopped as one of the passengers had to alight.

Seeing the large crowd and some guys lying unconsciously on the ground, the next question was "What is happening here?"

We were told that the guys lying on the ground were caught in the act of stealing.
Trust some of my country men who got no chills. They have given these guys beatings of their life making them unconscious.

Guess what some passengers in the vehicle said "You guys are wasting time, just put tires on their necks and set them ablaze."

What??
My response was to the guy in front because he was really stressing the issue. "Oga sir, that's not right. Jungle justice is not the option. They should be handed over to the police".

"Which police? By the time they hand them over to the police, they will be released and then go back to the same act", he responded.

"They should just burn them once and for all so that they will never try stealing in their life again".

"How is it possible that they will try it again when they are dead?" I thought.

Luckily, some security operatives got to the scene and we left.
I am sure that they will handle the issue as it ought to be.

I can't believe people(especially the ones that you think are learned) support jungle justice!

What's your take?

Are they even supposed to beat them?

Yes sometimes it's necessary. Kill the people killing and tormenting you, it's justified, if an armed robber or terrorist is caught, they should be killed.

Killing of another person is not justified.

As at this time last year, i hated jungle justice with passion. Until late last year when a friend of my got beaten mercilessly by armed robbers.
Death to all armed robbers

I am marveled that some persons support such. Beating someone till the person losses consciousness and killing?
It's quite unfortunate

They are not even suppose to beat the person because they are not law enforcement agents...

Even the law enforcement agents does not have any right to beat a person...

Unless, they are defending themselves against the person... Even at this, it should end at incapacitating the person momentarily

I think wicked deeds are as a result of mental disorders...

Anyways, what do I know?

Like handing them over to the police?

I don’t think you live in Nigeria
The level of corruption in Nigeria is top notch

There is a serial thief in our area, this guy steals anything and everything, he breaks into people’s houses while they are away and harvest their valuables. Since 2014 when we moved to this area, he has been taken to the police station more than 10 times, guess what his family members go to the station every time he gets arrested and bail him. Now tell me, is a well known thief suppose to be free? No. But all thanks to our police, after collecting 5000-10000 he’ll be sent back to our community to continue his profession

It's a sad situation that some of the law enforcement agents do nothing but 'enforce corruption' instead.
This issue of Jungle Justice wouldn't have been as it is now in our society.

Now, I’m very satisfied with this comment
If the system was never corrupt, there won’t be anything like jungle justice today.

I saw a video of a Nigerian thief caught in ghana, they didn’t beat him at all, he was only asked to unblock a blocked gutter, he was even given food and a nice shirt to wear.

The system here has rewired everybody to believe in total violence.
Burning thieves is not the answer but they can’t be left to roam freely.

The real thieves drive big cars with tinted bulletproof glasses, they even have convoys with armed personnel following them around, i pray they also get served with jungle justice one day
