The top four teams will qualify for the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, and two more teams will advance to the inter-confederation play-offs.

Nigeria is the most successful nation in the tournament's history, having won a record 11 titles, meaning they have won all but two of the previous tournaments. The two tournaments not won by Nigeria were both won by Equatorial Guinea which was hosted by Equatorial Guinea. Equatorial Guinea will not appear at the 2022 edition after losing 7-3 on aggregate to Tunisia in the second qualification round.

The super falcons of Nigeria who are the three-time defending champions, having won the tournament in 2014, 2016 and 2018. would be going for their 10th Trophy and fourth consecutive trophy in their 12th Appearance at the 2023 Women's Africa Cup of Nations.

The 2020 edition, which would have been the first to feature twelve teams, was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

This year, the 12 teams in the competition are divided into three groups of four with the top two in each group plus two best third-placed finishers advancing to the knockout stages.
The Hosts and world number 77 Morocco are back after a 22-year absence from the competition to make a third appearance.
Senegal, Burkina Faso, and Uganda are set to meet them in group A and are ranked 89th, 138th, and 156th in the world. Morroco will play Burkina Faso on Monday the 2nd of July 9pm Nigerian Time.

Cameroon, Zambia, Tunisia and Togo make up group B while group C sees South Africa, Burundi, and Botswana join Nigeria.

Nigeria are clear favorutes to win this competition however countries like South Africa, Cameroon, Zambia and Morocco could also make it difficult for the super falcons this time around.

Some players to watch out for include
Gabrielle Onguéné - Cameroon
Ajara Nchout - Cameroon
Thembi Kgatlana - South Africa
Rosella Ayane – Morocco
Barbra Banda – Zambia
Rasheedat Ajibade – Nigeria
Asisat Oshoala - Nigeria

As a Nigerian, I am wishing the super falcons the very best in the upcoming 2022 Africa Women Cup of Nations. We hope they qualify for the 2023 women's world cup and also win this tournament.

Group A:
Morocco
Burkina Faso
Senegal
Uganda

Group B:
Cameroon
Zambia
Tunisia

Group C:
