Diligent1:IGR between both States aren't the same. In terms of development. Development has been in the South West right from time immemorial. Thanks to the whites. South East was totally destroyed by the Nigerian army during the war and we have been developing from a scratch. The landmarks and policies of Peter Obi's 8 years of governance were foundational, fundamental, structural and strategic for upturning growth. Peter wouldn't turn a blind eye to inaccessible road, abandon it and start building a spaceship!! I will list the things he achieved for you to see, despite the fact he was been fought mercilessly by the parliament because of his refusal to lobby and budget padding. 1 Like |

clinician2x:When has it been an economic crime to borrow money for capital infrastructures?.. Is there any developed country in the world that doesn't borrow to build infrastructures? Once upon a time, we had Nigerian airways but it was grinded to a halt as a result of corruption. if it had been well managed, it would have had multiplier effect on the standard of living of average Nigerians. Does/Would corruption invalidate the importance of infrastructures? If we had a Lagos- Calabar rail line, do you have an idea how massive that would improve the economy. The fact that we are blighted by corruption & insecurity challenges, does that mean we should be fooled by Obi's blunders. What a shame. 1 Like 1 Share |

LifestyleTonite:According to Fashola: 1) "I will not repeat it again." 1) "the construction companies does not manufacture them." Fashola murders English language, as uaual, trying to use a 2nd Niger bridge as achievement. Electricity is the number one infrastructure that drives any economy. Fashola has seen to the near total collapse of electricity supply in Nigeria, yet he is not ashamed to speak of achievements of his before the public. |

crestedaguiyi: Fashola greedily accepted Buhari's inconsiderate offer to supervise 3 huge departments in Nigeria's federal government - Power, Works, and Housing. After 8 years, no electricity, no roads, no housing. Fashola comes now to campaign with an uncompleted 2nd bridge across the Niger. |

First of, Obi didn't say that (he built schools, roads, hospitals, etc.), he only emphasized HDI. When bill gates came to Nigeria, he hammered on HDI. Infrastructure is good, it would drive the economy, but it's just a piece of the pizza. Infrastructure vs HDI See Abuja-Kaduna railway/highway: infrastructure is built, but acutely low HDI has put it in coma. Same thing with power installations being vandalized by Vandals. Same with pipelines . . . Yoruba adage Ọmọ ti wọn o kọ, ni a gbe ile ti wọn kọ ta. Translation: The pikin that's not built/trained, would sell the house that you built. 2 Likes |

LeoDeKing: Common sense Zero if infrastructure doesn't grow the economy why do we have ports in Lagos why is it that 70% of all the goods in the country use Lagos ports and assess its impact on Lagos. Fashola was a good governor in Lagos but his actions recently shows he is losing focus from forming inspector gadget at Lekki toll gate to misyarning like this. |

Re: Can Infrastructure Drive An Economy? Fashola Counters Peter Obi (2019) by clinician2x: 9:26am On Jul 03, 2022 |
Pakute: You are not answering my question. There is no where i said borrowing money is wrong. Even obi cannot say such. USA is in debt same as China. But what matters most is what do u do with the money u borrow. I am asking you. What is the economic benefit of the railway and trains Nigeria borrowed huge amounts to build. Shebi na infrastructure? And by far one of the most expensive infrastructure in Nigeria today. What is the economic advantages of that infrastructure and how much does it add to nigerian economy? That is the question. The annual budget for maintaining that rail system is more than the annual revenue it generates. That is why Obi said you cannot drive nigerian economy with stuffs like this. You need to stop borrowing to fund these things. Identify local content manufacturers and fund them to produce more. When they produce more, u increase salaries to increase purchasing power so that people will buy more. By buying more people will pay more VAT and the GDP will grow. When the GDP increases, the economy is growing. Obi is a trader and he understands these things. Unfortunately however the people he is telling are zombies. They are just brain dead, roaming around aimlessly and ignorantly. They have eyes but they don't see, ears but do not hear, brains but they do not think. That is why someone will borrow away ur future, build train systems u do not need and like a zombie u come out and be clapping because u cannot see the real intents and purposes of that project. Re: Can Infrastructure Drive An Economy? Fashola Counters Peter Obi (2019) by Grandmeister(m): 9:28am On Jul 03, 2022 |
kingyakos:That is the point! Because we produce little of economic value! You borrowed trillions of naira to build a railway system and you can't even produce enough food to feed half of the population! Now tell me, what exactly will the trains be conveying from point A to B? Is not better to first bring up your production to a respectable margin and then invest in the railway and ports? You want to run when you can barely put one foot ahead of the other? |

Re: Can Infrastructure Drive An Economy? Fashola Counters Peter Obi (2019) by Nobody: 9:30am On Jul 03, 2022 |
Fashola didn't really make sense with what he said. Yes infrastructure is important but what drives the infrastructure if not human capital. Invest in Human capital and you have infrastructure. If you bring infrastructure projects without human capital where will you drive purchases, LPOs and other purchase orders? Fashola is a lawyer I can bet that his advisors in the ministry told him what to say because he really has no clue how infrastructure and human capital are linked. The Asian tigers started with Human capital then later invested in infrastructure. China started by first improving on human capital before looking inwards for infrastructural growth. |
