Asiwaju Bola Tinubu is no doubt a force to be reckoned with, not just in his home state of Lagos but across Nigeria. For the eight years that he ruled Lagos, he made use of one of the most successful cabinet members in the history of Nigeria. Apart from using them to work with his government, he also groomed them politically.

Below are cabinet members of Tinubu's Administration as Lagos State Governor who have gone on to achieve greater heights in politics.

1.Prof. Yemi Osinbajo

Nigeria's Vice-President, was Tinubu's commissioner for justice

2.Mr. Babatunde Fashola,SAN

He was Tinubu’s Chief of Staff. Today he is the Minister of Works and Housing after 8 years as governor of Lagos State.

3.Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode

He was first appointed the Auditor General for Local Governments under Tinubu's Administration before he became the Lagos State Accountant General from 2010-2012. Afterwards,he became the Governor of Lagos State for a single term.

4.Babajide Sanwo-olu

He was made the acting Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget and later Commissioner for Commerce and Industry by Bola Tinubu. He was appointed Commissioner for Establishments, Training and Pensions by Babatunde Fashola and was made Managing Director/CEO of the Lagos State Development and Property Corporation (LSDPC) by Governor Akinwunmi Ambode. Today he is the Governor of Lagos State.

5.Engr. Rauf Aregbesola

He was the Commissioner for Works in Tinubu's cabinet. He later became the Governor of Osun State and now the Minister for Interior.

6.Alhaji Lai Muhammed

The present Minister of Information was Chief of Staff (Governor's Office) during Tinubu's 1st term.

7.Mr Ben Akabueze

In 2007,he was appointed as the Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget by the Lagos State Government till 2015.He later became the Special Adviser to the President on National Planning .He is currently the Director General of Budget Office.

8.Sunday Dare

He served as Chief of staff and Special Adviser on media to former Lagos State Governor, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Today, he is the Minister of Sport

9.Chief (Mrs) Kemi Nelson

The current Executive Director, Operations, at the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund, Chief (Mrs) Kemi Nelson was a member of Bola Tinubu’s cabinet, first as Commissioner for Establishment, Training and Job Creation and later Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.

10.Opeyemi Bamidele

He was a Senior Special Assistant on Political and Intergovernmental Relations and later appointed as commissioner for Lagos State Ministry of Youth, Sports and Social Development in Bola Tinubu's led administration. Today ,he is representing Ekiti Central Senatorial District at the Nigerian senate.

11.Dele Alake

He was the Commissioner for Information from 1999-2007.While he is currently one of the political heavyweights in Lagos, his son,Tubosun Alake is the Special Adviser to Lagos State Governor, Sanwanolu on Innovation and Technology.

12.Senator Solagbade Olufemi Lanlehin

He was the Special Adviser to Governor Tinubu on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs. Chief Femi Lanlehin represented the Oyo South Senatorial district in the 7th Senate.

13. Senator Musiliu Olatunde Obanikoro

He was appointed State Commissioner for Home Affairs and Culture in 1999 and served for four years before he was elected Senator of the Federal republic of Nigeria. He later served as the Minister of State for Defence.

14. Mr Tunji Bello

In 2003 , he serve under the administration of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu as Commissioner for the Environment. In July 2011, he joined the Governor Babatunde Fashola administration’s as Commissioner for the Environment. He was also the Secretary to the State Government of Mr Akinwunmi Ambode He is the present Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources Governor under Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu.

15.Engr Joe Igboke

He was appointed the pioneer General Manager of Lagos State Infrastructure Maintenance & Regulatory Agency (LASIMRA) by Tinubu and served there for more than 10 years. He was later appointed as the pioneer Chairman of Wharf Landing Fees Collecting Authority, WLFCA in Apapa serving till his appointment as the current Special Adviser for Drainage & Water Resources to Governor Babajide Sanwo- Olu.

16.Dr Obafemi Hamzat

In August 2005, Dr. Hamzat was appointed Commissioner for Science and Technology during the tenure of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He retained his position when Governor Babatunde Fashola assumed office in 2007.Today, he is the Deputy Governor of Lagos State.

17.Ade Ipaye

He was appointed Special Assistant to Bola Tinubu on Legal Affairs and in 2003 he became the Governor's Senior Special Assistant on Legal Matters. He is presently the Deputy Chief of Staff to the President.

18.Babatunde Fowler

He was appointed by Tinubu as Chairman of the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service. He is the immediate past Federal Inland Revenue Service Executive Chairman.

19.Muiz Banire

Muiz Banire, the immediate past Chairman of the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria was appointed Special adviser to Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration in 1999 and subsequently named Commissioner of Transportation in the same year .Under Babatunde Raji Fashola’s administration, he was appointed as Commissioner of Environment .

20.Leke Pitan

Former Commissioner for Health and Education Lagos State. Presently appointed as Managing Director of the Bank of Industry and Board Chairman National Agricultural Extension Research by President Buhari

Adebayo Adewusi was Lagos state commissioner for finance from 2004 - 2006. He’s currently the Post Master General and CEO of NIPOST.

Gbenga Bariu Ashafa was the DG Lagos state lands bureau under Tinubu and later Fashola. He was later elected Senator twice and he’s currently the MD of Federal Housing Authority (FHA).

There are others like Oyetola, Fayemi, Ajimobi, Amosun, Dapo Abiodun, AbdulRahman, Mamora, Omoworare etc who were not in Tinubu’s 1999-2007 Lagos cabinet but he supported them to attain the glorious heights they’ve all attained today. Tinubu is a perfect example of we rise by lifting others.

Peter Obi was a governor around the same time as Tinubu. Where are his cabinet members? Where are those he mentored and supported to attain higher leadership position? Can anybody give us a list?
