Stop Using This Phrase If You Want To Find A Job! (for Job Seekers) by mollie12: 10:19am On Jul 07, 2022
Many job seekers don’t realize this, but the reason their requests for jobs go unanswered is because of this common phrase.

This phrase seems innocent enough. Many unknowingly repeat this phrase to their detriment in their discussions with key influencers, in social media and LinkedIn posts, to friends and families without thinking about its consequence.

What is this phrase, you might wonder? It’s this:

“I need a job”

What does “I need a job” mean? Is it a blue-collar work, like artisan, trader or mechanic? Because those are all jobs.

Is it a full-time or part-time job you need?

Is it a banking job, a teaching job or a manufacturing job?

Is it an HR job, a marketing job or a sales job?

“I need a job” does not tell us any of these.

This phrase is doubly dangerous. It confuses those that sincerely want to help you, and attracts to you those that want to exploit you. Those that want to help you do not know where to start from, because you have confused them with the phrase “I need a job”. There are too many varieties of paying jobs available, so they have no idea how to advise you properly or what direction to point you to when you say this phrase.

“I need a job” screams of desperation. It positions you as a beggar desperate to find work and eager to take any crumbs thrown your way. It attracts you to opportunists that only seek to capitalize on the unemployment crisis by either defrauding you through unauthorized pre employment fees, or connecting you to low-paying jobs in abusive environments with meager benefits.

What do I say then if I’m looking for a job and have no real idea what work I can do? Great question. Read the book “Navigating the Nigerian Job Market” on Okadabooks. It gives a guide on how to formulate your replacement to “I need a job”, a Personal Pitch that summarizes your unique strengths, interests, capability and target Lane into a compelling proposition that makes it easy for others to connect you to your dream job. Book is free to read for a limited period.

Oga when you tell someone 'I need a job', the next logical question is 'what is your qualification' or' what type of job can you do'.
All you wrote up there is just trying to force content on your blog,it doesn't make sense.

If I don't have a job, and actively looking for one; isn't it apt to say I need a job?

It’s good to stay off topics you don’t understand. If it were as simple as what you described, why then is the rate of unemployment this high in this country?

And there is no blog being promoted in my post, anyone with seeing eyes and a thinking brain can recognize this.

If seeing jobseekers remain unemployed is not an issue that concerns you, then stay in your lane. This comment of yours is the equivalent of diarrhea - absolutely zero value.
