I sneaked it in to season my chicken about once or twice to understand what the hype was all about, it did not make much difference to me.
Left me searching for the umami.
I'd say it isn't worth it.

What's that?

Umami? Japanese scientists say it's our fifth taste, alongside bitter, sweet, sour, and salty.

Every food seasoning,Either in cubes or powdered, packed in satchel contains sodium salt of glutamic Acid...called MSG.

Ma maggi o
Ma knor oo

Mr chef ooo
Ajino motto ooo
Noodles seasoning ooo
Gino cubes ooo

All has MSG as an additive/ flavour enhancer.

Seasoning was invented to tackle kwashiokor and making up for things lacked during war times over there and here.

Older generation Mothers have found ways to either abstain from packaged food seasoning or using as little as they can..Excess consumption is under research for a link to stomach cancer due to high sodium concentration.

A yoruba woman I know, said her mom uses More crayfish and Iru(ogiri) to enhance her food taste..She and her siblings are doing same in their matrimonial homes.

Aji-na moto that year.

Most local restaurants that year use it to attract customer that have bad taste of what good food is.

Once you're used to eating foods with seasoning, it's quite difficult to do without it.

Our grandmothers hardly used processed seasoning in their cooking.
The ingredients they had at a particular time determined the quantity of their soups.
Re: Do You Use This To Cook by Sterope(f): 1:32pm On Jul 10, 2022
It is doubtful that it was invented because of kwashiorkor, online articles say otherwise. However, it might have been what the war torn countries needed.

MSG is as bad as salt and other many foods and food chemicals if used in excess. Like other foods, some people react to MSG. There is nothing wrong with MSG.

You people that don't like MSG, it is mostly out of superiority complex. Food taste X2 better with MSG. It doesn't mean it can't taste good without it.

It is a myth that you are a better cook with MSG. If you can't cook, MSG will not save you .

Very very difficult.

But, health and safety first.

Moderation is key.

Majorly a food additive in war torn areas way back then.

They said what doesn't kill you, makes you stronger...

Life is livable by moderation.

I once tried cooking noodles (with other ingredients) without adding the seasoning, I never tried it again.
I couldn't even finish it.

There are some foods I can cook without seasoning, and they'd turn out very tasty.
It's about knowing what works for what.

When we were in secondary school, momsy will always give us strict warning not to use the seasoning in noodle, guess what? We go still use am cook Jollof behind her grin grin

The funny part is those that drop the seasoning to use Maggi cube.. grin grin A case of dropping broiler to eat turkey.. grin cheesy

When it comes to food, you have to start on time ones you marry as a lady with a willing husband o, to configure tge and kids taste bud to lesser use if these additives..It will play a huge role in the later years..And they will appreciate it.

Some native meals can come out super without seasoning abii? And you know you can make seasoning at home without Adding synthetic products?

I will even watch those sisi ihe hu juru na YouTube to learn more..it is time ti update the knowledge sha. cheesy

And a friend told me last year how MSG has been linked to migraine..Though, I feel only coffee can give me migraine..God! I can't be in same motto with coffee again.

My own is, for those foods that can do without seasoning, don't use seasoning in them.

Reminds me of a friend that cooks with very little seasoning, and she does not like adding spices (curry, thyme, and the likes) to her foods too.
Her favourite seasoning brand is Maggi, king of salty.
Whether she cooks with chicken, turkey or beef, she must add azu a miri-ami to it. cheesy
Her style of cooking is very traditional.

Some native meals can come out super without seasoning abii?

Yes. Native foods can turn out well without seasoning.
After all, seasoning was never part of the original recipe.
You see why it is important to preserve original recipes?

And you know you can make seasoning at home without Adding synthetic products?
Yes. By making and storing your own chicken/bone stock. mmiri anu.

One thing I've observed is that some of the best chefs hardly use seasoning in their cooking, then it occurred to me that they'd mostly use stock.
I want to attain that level.

Azu amiri-ami gives a unique taste to meals..My aunt I ones sent some from the farm in 2019..Since then, mgbe o wula o huru ya si m, mu wetereya azu.It is now like a litany. cheesy

Your friend is keeping to the saying, too many spices spoil the broth.

When growing we don't take sugar in the house, now I comfortably take pap, custard without sugar..The taste bud adjusted perfectly..A family friend was telling me how she and her son are having sugar issues, I told her we don't take sugar..She was shocked..Ya si m, so i ga añu akamu without sugar, I told her straight up.. cheesy

Processed foods and additives are becoming huge health risk..Since they are addictive, we most times don't know when we concentrate them in our body.

Native meals na bae smiley Think of native Bitter leaf soup (Anambra way) , ofe akwu...God! I can't visit awka without eating them..Infact my getaways so far, na wukari na Awka for the meals. smiley
