Lol I'm not even watching alchemy of souls but my tl is full of people crying cos there's going to be a change in the female leads, now I wonder if this is why the original female lead left and was replaced by jung so min. I never really knew why the female lead left, the official reason was that she had trouble interpreting the role which could have been true cos she's a rookie actress but I highly doubt that cos there are a million dramas with people who can't act still given the lead roles e.g hwang in yeop in why her, but then again there were rumors about her probably being sexually harrased by someone in the production team but now that I'm hearing about this change, maybe her agency didn't agree with her being swapped later on in the story and that's why they pulled her out. Oh well what's my own, it's not even on my watch list but yall know me, I like tea, I like drama and I really want to know what's happening behind the scenes

A man and a woman (bsb and kgr) are coworkers, they are social workers in the department of welfare and they're pretty much in charge of sharing donations and palliatives to the less privileged etc, from the way they relate its also pretty clear that they are good friends. They spend time working together, gossiping about colleagues and pretty much bantering with each other. Kgr says she prefers dating a colleague cos they'll have the same experience but bsb says he'd prefer to date a non coworker. Kgr asks what's wrong with dating a coworker and bsb asks if she likes dating a coworker cos he prefers dating women that are more ambitious than he is. She angrily says she also wouldn't date a coworker and asks bsb why an ambitious woman would date someone like him? Bsb says he knows kgr has a crush on a Mr Hong that works with them and he's sure an ambitious woman could date him cos his first love was one. Kgr scoffs and says you're always talking about your first love, wasn't she mean to you? Bsb says he liked how ambitious she was so he didn't care. They keep arguing over work and their tastes in men/women.

Bsb is alone looking very nervous as he attempts to make a call, he clears his throat a thousand times before finally calling. A female voice picks up and says hello? He stammers "err is this ham gyesin's phone?", voice responds "yes, who's this?", bsb smiles all giddy and says it's me kiyeong, I don't know if you remember me. (bsb's name is kiyeong). Gyesin says oh yes I do. Kiyeong is happier and says how are you, your voice still sounds the same. She says I'm doing well, how are you? He stammers I'm fine, I just wanted to see if your old number was still working. Do you still live in songpa? She says songpa, was that the last time we met? Wow that was so long ago, I lived somewhere else for 3 years and I later moved to gwacheon, that's where I am now. He stammers oh, anyway can we meet? She says no problem but I can only meet you during the weekend cos of work. He hurriedly asks what about next week Sunday? She says no problem. He happily ends the call, turns back and is shocked to see kgr behind him. She sarcastically says you look happy, what's up? He says you don't need to know. She asks who where you talking to? He says just someone. She asks "a girl?", he says why are you disturbing me? She says you mentioned meeting on Sunday. He asks where you eavesdropping? She says I didn't hear anything just don't forget that the company's sports day is on Sunday. She skips away happily while kiyeong is devastated cos he totally forgot.

Kgr is at home cooking, she's terrible and is learning from a cookery book and the internet (me: aigoo).

It's sports day and Mr Hong and kiyeong are playing badminton. Mr Hong is winning and kgr is so excited it's pretty obvious she has a crush on Mr Hong. She's taking his pictures, screaming "hwaiting, destroy him, you're so cool" etc

The match ends 20-3 and everyone sits to eat. Apparently they are also celebrating Mr hong's farewell party. Kgr notices kiyeong running off secretly and she sighs and says the least he could do is stay for the farewell party. She seats close to Mr Hong and offers him a piece of kimbap, in the process of passing the kimbap to him, it falls from her chopsticks onto the picnic mat, she's flustered, apologizes and rushes to get him another one but he picks it up from the mat and eats, she's even sorrier and asking why he picked it but he only takes some more of her kimbap and eats. She's happy and even more in love with him lol. He stands up to give a speech, thanking his colleagues and bla bla bla. He's pretty much popular cos everyone seems to admire him and he's quitting social work to focus on becoming a novelist. After his speech he offers to sing a song and everyone enjoys his performance while kgr stares at him with heart eyes.

Kiyeong is having dinner with Gyesin at a restaurant, he says you haven't changed even after 9 years, I knew you'd still be as pretty as ever. Gyesin says you haven't changed either, you're still the same. He smiles and says I never imagined that you'd be a prosecutor, you're amazing. Gyesin says we'll see about that cos I'm considering changing jobs. He asks why, is it tough? She says I'm just hanging in there. He says I heard you weren't married yet, are you dating anyone? She says no, you? He smiles and says me neither.

The social workers are having dinner at a restaurant. A colleague asks why Mr Hong is quitting his job to focus only on his novel, another one says she'd be to scared to quit especially since he's a newbie who hasn't written a book before. Kgr says he's written before. The other colleagues ask "really?". She says he has published short stories in the sci-fi section of some newspapers, he's quitting this job to focus on his latest sci-fi novel. One of the colleagues who also has a crush on Mr Hong eyes kgr and asks "how do you know all that?" kgr says he asks me for ideas for his novel sometimes. The other colleague says really, are you that close? He never asks me anything. The other one with the crush says he used to discuss things like that with me in the past too. Another colleague says I don't know what's so great about Mr Hong, honestly I prefer kiyeong.

Kiyeong is still on his date, he says I remember when I got my first paycheck, we went to eat beef at a restaurant, you said I worked hard to make the money so you were going to eat well, you even ate the burnt parts of the beef. I keep remembering how you ate.... She says did I? I don't remember. He looks heartbroken and says really, so what do you remember most? She says when we went skiing. He asks skiing? I don't think we went skiing. She says of course we didn't, I was talking about my family trip (Lmao) when my mom said it wasn't good to have milk and newspapers stacked in front of your house while you're on vacation. Kiyeong laughs awkwardly and says I remember, I had to go to your house to collect them. Gyesin says I'm sorry about that, I wasn't grateful back then but I felt bad when I thought about it later on. I didn't mean for you to do that, my mom.... He says no problem, it's nothing. I did bad things to you too so don't apologize.

The social workers are leaving the restaurant and some of the men want to go for another round of drinking. Mr Hong suggests coffee but the men are already pretty drunk and want to go for whiskey. They ask the females if they'd like to join them but they say they're tired and would rather head home so they prepare to part ways. Kgr sneaks towards Mr Hong and gives him a food flask. She says call me when you finish eating it, I'll make some more for you. He asks what's this? She smiles bashfully and runs off.

The next day at work, there's a lot of people making complaints about how they haven't received donations and the head of the social workers suggests that they go apologize to the people who didn't receive donations. A colleague says it'd be better if a man goes and nominates kiyeong but he says he's not really an eloquent speaker and nominates kgr (her name is younghui). Younghui accepts grudgingly while eyeing kiyeong. The colleague tells kiyeong but you're an eloquent speaker or do you only know how to speak when it comes to lying about your mom? Everyone laughs and the head asks what they mean? Colleague says on the sports day he left early lying that his mom was ill. Kiyeong apologizes and says it was because he had something important to do. Head says so your mom wasn't ill and we had agreed to go pay her a visit this afternoon. Younghui smiles evilly and says I was worried so I called your house, your mother answered she was cleaning the bathroom. Another colleague sarcastically says it must have been hard for a sick person to clean the bathroom, so what did you really do, Meet a girl? He says no a guy, another colleague says it must have been a girl. The head says see how you're quick to defend yourself, that's how you should talk to the people complaining, accompany younghui and help her.

On their way out, younghui asks who did you meet that you even lied using your mom?. Kiyeong says an old friend. Younghui obviously doesn't believe him, she says OK what did you eat? At least you can tell me that. He says we went to a family restaurant. She gasps excitedly and says it must have been a girl! Did you go on a blind date? She frowns and asks was it your first love? He says just someone from college. She says OK, you tell your colleagues you don't like family restaurants and you only take us to roadside stalls. Kiyeong smiles and says it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

At the office a man comes to deliver water and gives a gift to a colleague of kiyeong and younghui's, she asks what it's for? He says he just started a new business so he's giving out gifts, he drops one on everyone's desk and asks the colleague where younghui is, colleague says she went out and won't be back till closing. He looks disappointed and brings out a much bigger gift and keeps on younghui's desk, he also leaves her a note and asks colleague to make sure younghui gets it. Colleague frowns and says why is younghui's that big? Deliveryman ignores her and says he has a good feeling about his new business, I might not be successful but I think I should start thinking of how to have a better life now. He leaves

Kiyeong and younghui continue making their rounds and younghui receives a call. She asks kiyeong what kind of bar is called business club? Kiyeong asks why are you asking? She says I just received a call that I should go get my things from business club. They get to the place and it seems shady so she pushes kiyeong forward and asks him to go get her stuff. He goes in and it's a hostess bar. He says he's there to get Choi younghui's things and they give him the food flask she gave to Mr Hong. They tell him that the social workers that came to drink the night before forgot it and they didn't know who owned it but luckily there was a phone number inside so they called. He opens the flask and younghui had written a cute letter with her phone number (lol), he reads it and sighs and asks if the men that forgot the flask only drank or if they patronized the women, they said they patronized the women. Kiyeong goes out and gives younghui her flask, she's surprised it's there.

They're driving back and younghui is looking sad. Kiyeong asks if she's alright? She asks him if he read the letter and he pretends he didn't know there was a letter. She asks if it was a hostess bar, he says yes. She asks if they only went there to drink, he says he didn't ask but men rarely go there just to drink. He tries to comfort her by saying that most men can't control themselves when they are drunk but she's not interested in listening so he asks what she'll do with the food and asks her to give it to him. She says she'd rather give a stray dog (Lmao).

They get to the office and are surprised to see the really big gift on her desk, she's too heartbroken to care about it and she squeezes the note the deliveryman wrote for her and throws away. Kiyeong opens her gift and it's a carton of very expensive ginseng supplement. The social workers all exclaim about how expensive it is and wonder why they all got hand towels while she gets expensive stuff, they say men don't give expensive stuff like this except they really care about you. Younghui doesn't care tho and is still sulking when her phone rings, it's Mr Hong. She's happy and quietly sneaks out of the office. Mr Hong apologizes for forgetting her food at the bar, he said he went to get it but they told him someone had already been there for it. She says he shouldn't apologize and she's the one with it. He apologizes and says he'd like to receive it again and asks if she'll meet him. She's happy but plays hard to get by saying she doesn't think he really wants it so he shouldn't bother. He keeps apologizing and says he couldn't escape the other colleagues that wanted to drink, he asks if she's free on Saturday? She asks where.

The social workers are having lunch and kiyeong says he has to start house hunting soon cos his parents are moving to the countryside and he needs to get a smaller apartment. Younghui says a lot of singles live in sangam so he should try there, he asks if she'd like to go with him. The other colleagues look at them suspiciously and asks if they're close enough to go house hunting together? They all laugh over it. A waiter brings them a plate of chicken and younghui turns away, kiyeong asks the waiter to please bring some pollack and one of the colleague says but we still have enough chicken. Kiyeong says younghui doesn't eat chicken. Younghui is literally shaking and the colleague asks really, you can't eat chicken, why? Younghui hits kiyeong's arm he laughs and says when she was young she was pecked by a chicken at her grandma's house and now she has a phobia for chicken (Lmao I swear my sister had the same experience as a child and we scared her into not eating chicken for a while lol, me sef at this my old age I fear chicken head, if I'm cooking for myself I always throw the head away). Another colleague smiles knowingly and says to the other colleagues, you see, I told you kiyeong cares a lot about younghui. Another colleague says now that I think about it you 2 look good together, are you dating in secret? Younghui says eww I have high standards, kiyeong says me too (me: erm excuse me ma, if they were secretly dating would they say yes). Younghui and a colleague go to the restroom, colleague asks if younghui still keeps in touch with Mr Hong? Younghui carefully answers yes, why do you ask? Colleague says nothing, I was just concerned, she asks about what? Colleague says nothing (p.s: it's the colleague that said Mr Hong used to ask her opinion in the past) younghui still asks so she says Mr Hong has a weird habit. Younghui says what? Colleague says he doesn't have a girlfriend, he's usually not interested in women but rumor has it that once in a while he takes any kind of woman home, he makes them get drunk, I heard he puts drugs into their food, ephe... Ephe... Ephedra, do you know what that is? Younghui says of course I don't know. Colleague continues, when they go unconscious... Well you can guess the rest. I heard that many women have been through that. Younghui asks "he drugs their food?" colleague nods and says if a woman goes through that it'll destroy her. Back at the lunch younghui asks the colleague who are they? Colleague says what? Younghui says the women who were dragged to Mr hong's house, if they were really dragged why haven't they reported him, who are the women? The other colleagues ask what's with Mr Hong? Another colleague asks the rumor colleague are you still spreading that story, it's a lie. The rumor colleague says a lot of women have said the same thing. Colleague says it's women that were rejected by him that spread that story for revenge. Younghui tells the rumor colleague to stop spoiling Mr hong's reputation especially since she has no proof. Another colleague says but there's no smoke without fire so what if it's true? Younghui says you people should stop encouraging rumors, what woman would go to the house of a man she wasn't dating? Kiyeong says I know you want to take his side but you can't be too sure. Younghui says I'm not taking his side, he hasn't done anything wrong. Rumor colleague maliciously says you must really like Mr Hong, younghui eyes her and says I do, what's wrong with that? Kiyeong scoffs and says if you like him that much, go be his mistress. Younghui says what, Mistress? I'd be if he let me, in fact I'd be his slave and wash his rags if he wanted me to. Lol everyone looks at her in surprise and she leaves in anger.

The next day they continue their rounds, kiyeong asks if she had a good night's rest and she ignores him lol. In one of the houses there's a program on TV about poultry, kiyeong warns her in time not to look so she keeps her face down till she finds the remote and turns the TV off. They have many more houses to visit but kiyeong asks if they can continue the next day, she asks why and he looks nervous and says nothing. She goes close to him, sniffs and asks "are you wearing cologne?" he says a little. She smiles and says are you dating anyone? He looks away, she says it's your first love right? He nods. She sighs and says so you finally called her, no problem you can go. He asks what about you? She says ill continue working. He says it's almost closing time why not just go home, she says don't worry about me, just have a nice time. She leaves but he feels guilty about leaving her to work alone

Kiyeong and gyesin are at a musical and he is very excited. Gyesin's phone rings, she looks annoyed as she disconnects the call. She apologizes to kiyeong and says she has to leave, he's surprised and says but the show is just starting. She apologizes again and tells him to enjoy the show without her. She leaves while kiyeong looks sad.

Younghui is at home shopping for clothes online in preparation for her date with Mr Hong. Her phone rings and it's him, she answers and calls him by his name Hong gubyeong oppa, he says he knows they're supposed to meet on Saturday but unfortunately he'd not be able to cos he has to meet his publisher on that day. She's disappointed and he says how about Sunday, she's happy but plays hard to get by saying she has to check her schedule, she tells him she'll be free. He says great, we'll meet at my house, I'll make you dinner. She instantly gets scared and asks "to your house, alone?" he says do you want to bring someone? She says no ill come alone.

At night she dreams that she's in his house, he drugs her food, she eats and is unable to move, he brings out handcuffs and starts to unbutton his shirt lol she wakes up terrified.

The next day she and kiyeong go on their rounds, they get to the house of an alcoholic who refuses to listen to them. Younghui gets angry and says stop getting drunk, that's why your wife left you. The man flares up and starts cussing at them and throwing different objects at them, he starts to kick her car and breaks the side mirror. She rushes towards him in anger and he hits her. Kiyeong jumps on him and they start fighting with kiyeong asking why he'd hit a woman, kiyeong is terrible at fighting but he manages to get a few blows in, the drunk is more powerful tho and slaps kiyeong, his nose starts to bleed. Younghui rushes to protect him from the man and screams that she'll call the police.

She's cleaning his nosebleed and asking him if he's OK. He says he's not hurting but he feels bad, she laughs and says why did you defend me when you can't fight? He laughs too and says did you see how shocked the man was? They both smile and stare at each other and oohhh what is this feeling, they obviously have some attraction for each other. She says now that I'm looking at you like this I realize that you're... He asks what? She smiles and says nothing (me: nooooo spill girl, what have you realized, I'm blushing). She runs off and he pursues her asking her to finish her sentence.

It's Sunday and she's on her way to Mr hong's house lol she's wearing really high heels that she finds hard to wao in but she looks really pretty, she even curls her hair instead of the usual ponytail she wears to work. At his house, she asks Mr Hong to tell her the plot of his book but he says she wouldn't find it interesting, she acts all cute saying she still wants to hear. He says after they eat, she goes to the bathroom to wash her hands

Kiyeong is at home reading comic books, he calls younghui's number but Mr Hong picks. Kiyeong asks why he's with younghui's phone? Hong says she's at my house, she's in the bathroom right now. Kiyeong ends the call sadly and goes out to get some beer and soju.

Hong and younghui are drinking wine while he tells her the plot of his book lol as he talks she realizes he isn't as intelligent as she thought he was but she's still invested in her crush on him. They finish a bottle of wine and get pretty tipsy, they are also starting to feel erm seckshi for lack of a better word lol.

He asks if they should stop drinking and have dinner, she says yes. He says he made maotang noodles, she says she's looking forward to it cos she's never heard of it. Lmao she starts to eat but keeps remembering her dream. She starts to feel dizzy, her stomach starts hurting and she feels like throwing up, he gives her water and asks her to eat some more, she struggles to get up and says she has to leave cos she doesn't feel good. He offers to drive her home but she refuses and asks him to call an Uber for her.

At work the next day, she's having lunch with a colleague and gists her. Colleague says so you just ran out on him while having dinner, she nods yes. Colleague says I can't believe this, you're just as bad as the person who spread that rumor, she tells younghui that the rumor colleague (her name is Ms Kwak) was the one that started the rumor because she confessed her feelings to Mr Hong and he rejected her 3 years ago. Younghui sighs and says but every time I think of him, I imagine him drugging girls. Colleague says if you really like him, you wouldn't be having those feelings.

Kiyeong and gyesin are having dinner at a restaurant, he gives her an expensive gift, she says stop giving me things like this. He says I'll be really good to you this time around. She says you were always good to me. He asks so why did you dump me? She says me? You dumped me. He said no after our fight I called you for 2 days and you didn't pick my calls, she said exactly I expected you to call for at least a week but you gave up after 2 days, you call that love (me: mtcheww what is this one saying?) he says I didn't want to annoy you. She says you didn't really like me, even now you don't like me. He says I've never liked anyone more than I like you, how do I prove it. He gulps down his glass of wine, climbs the table (me: oh no) and starts shouting I love you ham gyesin, everyone in the restaurant starts laughing and clapping. Gyesin is embarrassed and leaves in anger.

Younghui is home cleaning, her phone rings, it's Hong, she answers feeling guilty, he asks if she got home safe the previous night, she says she did. He says I guess the food wasn't good, would you like to meet this weekend? She gets scared and says ermmmm I have plans this weekend. He says OK take care and call me from time to time. Lol she was using a picture of his as wallpaper on her laptop, she deletes it.

It's Sunday and she and kiyeong are going house hunting, she complains about how she's wasting her precious Sunday househunting with him. He says you're better than I am at these things. She helps him decide on a house and he gives her the gift he got for gyesin. She asks what it's for and he says he's giving her an early birthday gift since her birthday is next week. She sees that it's an expensive jewelry and asks him where he got it from, he says he bought it and she's teasing him asking if it's not fake. As they are walking, they pass a man loading a truck with chickens, she screams and kiyeong hugs her tight and they pass, after they pass, she awkwardly removes his hands from her and walks away. He rushes to catch up with her and says I'm not choosing that house, I didn't know a poultry truck would pass through, let's look for another. She says why? It's your house not mine, he smiles and says you have to come over when I move in. She's touched and says I'm not ready to go home, would you like to see a movie with me. Lmao they go see an x rated movie and he's obviously affected while she laughs at him. On their way from the movie they decide to spend some time at a park, the park is filled with people on dates, kiyeong is nervous looking around but younghui is at ease looking at the sky. Kiyeong sees a couple sneaking off to make out and he says let's kiss (omo) she says what? He says younghui let's kiss. She asks why? He says I don't know (hahaha) she says why should we kiss? We're not a couple. He says we can date if we kiss. She asks are we an item? He says no. She frowns and says I don't know why you mentioned that, everything was fine till then. She leaves.

The next day at work, he's nervous around her. The water deliveryman comes and asks what happened to her car, he noticed the side mirror was damaged (lol kiyeong is nearby eyeing the man), younghui said she was involved in an accident. The man is worried and asks if she's hurt. She smiles and says no only the car was damaged. He offers to take her car to the mechanic but she declines the offer. He insists so she stylishly asks kiyeong if she should accept the offer, he acts all cool and says whatever, she should do what she wants. She gets angry and says she'll take the offer and go with the man lol kiyeong is fuming and asks her where she's going when she has reports to write, she asks him to help her write it and links her arm with the deliveryman. Kiyeong shouts ya! Don't push your work on me, deliveryman shouts back at kiyeong "why are you raising your voice at a woman?" kiyeong shouts a woman? Ahjussi you know nothing about this, don't involve yourself. Ahjussi shouts I know enough, I've been coming to this office before you started working here. They are about to start fighting and people pull them away.

It's closing time and everyone leaves except for kiyeong who's waiting for younghui. He realizes she isn't coming back and sadly leaves work. On his way he sees her car parked in front of a restaurant, younghui is having dinner with the man and she's bored cos he has been talking about his water delivery business for hours, she notices kiyeong looking at her car through the transparent walls of the restaurant and she pretends to be having fun with the man. Kiyeong sees her looking so happy and walks away sadly lol younghui goes back to being bored.

They are at work the next day, kiyeong is still nervous around her. After their meeting, the team leader announced that it was younghui's birthday and that after work they would go celebrate at h hotel. The colleagues are surprised and impressed asking younghui how she managed to pay for an expensive hotel like h hotel. Team leader says the deliveryman offered to pay for the hotel and he couldn't refuse lol younghui smiles sheepishly and kiyeong basically dies. He says I don't think we should accept his offer. Team leader says well to avoid charges of bribery, if it's too expensive we can all pitch in some amount of money.

It's break time and kiyeong overhears the colleagues gossiping about how they're pretty sure the deliveryman chose the expensive hotel to propose to younghui. One says she heard they've been on a lot of dates. Another says it's a good thing cos younghui has been depressed lately and it was great timing. Another says younghui is too good for the man but at least he's hardworking. Miss Kwak says he even bought her a ring lol everyone including kiyeong is shocked, they ask if she saw the ring lol she says no that someone said they saw him buy it

After break, kiyeong can't focus at work. He keeps watching the clock as it gets to closing time. He looks through the window and sees deliveryman drive in wearing a suit. He rushes to younghui and says he has to talk to her. She says go on. He says he wants to talk to her outside the office, he basically drags her out talking gibberish about his new house, he takes her towards the staircase but sees deliveryman coming up and takes her to the rooftop.

Deliveryman gets to the office and everyone is happy to see him but younghui isn't there. He asks where she is and the colleague that has a crush on kiyeong says she just stepped out with kiyeong lol deliveryman panics and starts to look for them.

At the rooftop kiyeong says if I told you I loved you what would you do, If I told you I want to date you and live with you what about you? She smiles.

Deliveryman goes back to the office and says he searched everywhere but couldn't find her. The colleague with a crush on kiyeong asks if he checked the rooftop and they both run to check, they get there to find younghui and kiyeong hugging, then the kiss (ladies and gentlemen an actual kiss in a drama special! It's rare and I am on cloud 9). Colleague looks away sadly and deliveryman puts his ring back in his pocket.

A few months later, they are married and pregnant. They are watching TV and Mr Hong is being interviewed as his book is a bestseller. She tells kiyeong that the day she went to Hong's house he made her something called maotang noodles and immediately she ate it she felt dizzy and uncomfortable. He asks maotang noodles? You shouldn't have eaten that, it's made with chicken broth. She realizes that it was her phobia for chicken that made her dizzy lol. The endeu.

WHAT I LIKED
1. I'm a sucker for the friends to lovers trope no matter what shape or form they come in(lewl I'm a sucker for every trope ngl) but anyway I liked the story, I thought it was cute. It wasn't a perfect drama, i understand that they had to squeeze everything into one episode but it was good.

2. Love the cast

LOL I'm pretty sure even if younghui didn't suspect Mr Hong of drugging girls, she would have still found an excuse to not be with him cos her heart was always with kiyeong, same thing with that one and pining over first love of 100 years ago *sigh* lol
