I’ve been wondering why the USA said Tinubu doesn’t have any criminal record, David didn’t do justice on that part.

So I went to read the court papers. In the agreement, they agreed to dismiss the case and release the money because he said it belongs to his wife and mother. That’s why there is no conviction.

But $460k in his heritage bank wasn’t released to him neither was it given to the USA. It was ordered and advertised that someone should come lay claim to the money within 10 days or it will be forfeited to the government.

Nobody came to claim the money, so it was given to the government.

At the end, it was a win win for both sides - Money for the government, clear record for Tinubu.

I am sure you know there's a difference between DEA who deals with drug related cases and IRS that deals with internal revenue. Agent Moss the persecutor was from the IRS. The case was that Tinubu was laundering money that was proceeds of drug activities, Tinubu defended himself and he was not in anyway indicted for money laundering or drug trafficking.

The out of court settlement was most likely for the Tax he evaded from 1985 to 1992 which the IRS uncovered.

Even in the court papers, it was clearly stated that Tinubu was not indicted and was cleared.
