Itsrm: Early stages when he was not yet governor? Boko Haram grew during Ali Modu Sheriff's tenure and were already carrying out bombings in Bauchi, Abuja, Jos and breaking dozens of their members out of jail BEFORE Shettima became governor. Unless early stages means another thing. 5 Likes |

afrodoc2: A major terrorist organisation with serious links to Global terrorism, and a sitting governor was negotiating for Amnesty? IPOB and BH are proscribed as terrorist groups. He wasn't ruthless about it. Rather he was the chief negotiator and spokesperson during his tenure 1 Like |

donstan18: Actually in a nation where only federal government security agencies can be armed, it is a big question. In the end, the army, dss, efcc, airforce, navy, police, frsc, csdc, customs, and any other fg enforcement uniform do not answer to the state governors So how really can a governor enforce security in his state? All you have is cooperation and inducement. And every once in a while when feathers are ruffled, governors are reminded that they are not in the police chain of command 3 Likes |

izzou: His approach might have been wrong but by the time he became governor Boko Haram had passed what any governor could handle. I don't know the man so i am not holding brief for him specifically but trying to explain the nature of the beast. By 2012 onwards only the President and the Nigerian Chiefs of Staff (Army and Airforce especially) and the rest of the top security big wigs could have done anything about that organization. Lack of leadership at the national level and corruption by the generals was what led to all the failures. That is my view anyway. The time to stop Boko Haram at the local level was 2002-2006 during Ali Modu Sheriff's tenure when they were still fighting other sects and stoning the police not 2011 when they were bombing military barracks in Abuja and breaking 100 of their soldiers out of prison in Bauchi. |

izzou: There is very little Soludo can do, imho. ESN is thriving because of endemic problems. Wealth amidst poverty. Poverty with no path to self reliance. Proliferation of firearms. ESN is just another chapter in the story of security issues in the SE. I remember when kidnapping was at a level where no one travelled home for xmas I remember osisikanu When I was in uni, robbery was so bad that Bakassi boys were created. ESN and UGM are about opportunists tapping into the wellspring of underemployment, bitterness and frustration. Unless Soludo can make real and sustainable improvements to the economy that carry everybody, this story will not change 1 Like |

Honestly I completely agree with most people's sentiments that the APC administration has failed in the most important sectors so it would be morally wrong to hand them the reins of the presidency next year. The dilemma for me is the proposed people who want to take over don't exactly feel me with confidence. Atiku is part of the old guard that caused our current situation. Obi plenty talk less substance. Don't ever the electorate next year cus however you pick is fraught with risk. izzou: |

GloriousGbola: That is what they say when they want to give excuses. That inducement goes a long way. If you have a state governor giving out 10m to families of slain policemen and military personel, why won't they put their lives on the line for him? You also have others who only know how to give excuses and blame the FG, motivation is low and no one wants to die. |
Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by izzou(m): 11:05am On Jul 14, 2022 |
afrodoc2: Okay doc, I agree with you. Let's not blame him for it. But the second issue is that the failure called Sheriff, is behind this one two. So if Tinubu wins, Sheriff is still directly or Indirectly involved with governance |

chrisooblog: I don't even have faith in the others. I'm not seeing Obi as the saviour. But we cannot continue this way. It is because parties don't get any reward for bad governance, that's why the country and many states are in ruins. Let them just rest first. That's the first step to redemption |

izzou: Haba, this is not true. Shettima was vocal about equipping the army and talking about how our military are under equipped to fight the scourge. From 2013 to 2019 when he left as Governor, he was the one paying for the Civiliaj JTF that number in excess of 20k force without a dime from the FG. The deradicalisation of terrorist started under GEJ and it's a worldwide known counter terrorism ways. Why kill those that want to surrender and lay down their arms instead of deradicalising them after going through the necessary procedures? In Borno, CAN President, Catholic leaders and the likes still appreciate Shettima for the work he did in that state. Every church that those bastard burnt during his tenure were rebuilt. 3 Likes |

Itsrm: the inducement is fuelling the entitlement mentality of police. having to be paid extra to do their jobs it is why i am becoming an advocate of citizens bearing firearms - because police are more or less mercenaries at this point it is the same way we all have to induce police. money for petrol, money for weekend. we had a series of carjackings and we were discussing how to settle police for nightly patrols in the area |

izzou: I have already stated earlier that with Tinubu's health i don't want him to be the next President. So this is not pro-Tinubu. I was just giving my opinion on your statement about Shettima failing to stop Boko Haram somehow being an indictment on his competence. Only a President who somehow eliminated all the endemic socio-economic factors that were instrumental in allowing Boko Haram come into existence in the first place working with his intelligence chiefs and Army/Airforce chiefs utilizing the monies given to them appropriately while maintaining morale amongst soldiers could have stopped Boko Haram by 2012. 1 Like |

izzou: At this point you guys are just throwing different accusations at the man looking for which one will stick. From 1) He failed by not stopping Boko Haram in its infancy (obviously impossible as he wasn't governor then but it was another She) to 2) He lobbied for amnesty for them (proven to be the other She) to 3) that other She is now supporting this She. It can't be for free. Scattergun attack. One must enter. 5 Likes 1 Share |

Amoto94: deradicalisation is BS imho - MEND did not really stand for anything. all that happened was Asari and co cashed out if deradicalisation actually worked, by now we would have some repentant boko haram snitching on their compadres. it was just some nonsesne sold to GEJ, and everybody went along because it was an opportunity to chop |
