Hey Guys

Today's been moving too fast! Just finished my C project but not the advance. Lately, a lot of people from my cohort are reapplying to join the August cohort. Mehn... it's been really overwhelming. Tomorrow's the DAY for eliminated, people who scored below 80% will be removed! Which is why a lot of people have been reapplying.

All C project are given 24hrs deadline and that isn't enough time considering one has to read the grasp the concept, after the first deadline, there's a second deadline but your score will be reduced from 100 to 65. Meanwhile even if you decide to copy from your colleague, it is advisable to still read and attempt the projects on your own because you will have to defend your results. From the picture below, these people are to defend their projects.

Anyways the agreement of ALX and Holberton tech school is an exciting, which is creating wider opportunities for Africans, I can't be the only one excited about the "ROOM".

I guess I made it to the first month ehhh...w
Let's work hard to finish this program and get a good job. It would also be good if we got greedy and aim pretty high, that way, we can double the effort.

I’ve been following this thread right from the beginning and I must say I’m impressed. You draw me more to learn programming which has always been on my mind and I really want to but I get discouraged when people say you have to be good in mathematics before you can learn and I am not good in that… that’s my problem with programming

Depends on the career you wanna focus on in tech, like for software engineering, you will need maths!
Re: My Software Engineering Journey In ALX Africa by Anonymous6o6: 11:52am On Jul 15, 2022
Today's PLD, so I'm supposed to rest and calm my brain, but that I won't be doing that! Cause I have a lot to cover and go back on C.

Besides, these days I have been spending more time on leetcode, not solving problems yet but making attempts and thinking of several solutions for one problems (benefits of being in ALX, cause you're use to their methods)

printf("Hello \t Annonnymous" \n"wink; how are you today? Congratulations to you for progressing to the next stage in your career. Once againni am an august cohort. Please exactly how much of mathematics will be needed on the career path to becoming a software engineer. For example does it go as far as the engineering further maths ; differential equations and the integrations?
I am not yet on any platform or group except the ones I searched out on telegram and it has not been very interactive or responsive. Why are you not making use of telegram. Where you can post questions and assignments so we can get used to the system before hand. Besides telegram links don't usually get broken or minced along path like its watsapp counterpart. Besides telegram has unlimited number of invite along side data saving. Thank you.
Yours.

Copy the link to somewhere else and close in the spaces, there should be no spaces. Then you should be able to use it.

Good evening, I applied for the Alx software engineering program yesterday and got accepted today. I'm among the August cohort. I tried joining the WhatsApp group through the link you posted but it seems the link is not valid, can u please post a valid link to the WhatsApp group.

Good Morning everyone
Today's PLD (peer group learning), so I will make the most of it to study.

Last night was really great, I had a google meeting chatted with some of the August cohort members and it was really inspiring to see them putting efforts towards this program.

For the next google meeting, I will be bringing in one or two of my colleagues to help answer any questions you may have and also explain some of the projects.

I tried to record the session but my network kept failing me and nothing was recorded.
Kindly add me to the August cohorts group chat.. 0810 530 360.

Thank you

You don't need to install them all since alx has a sandbox and you can use your terminal if you want. You just need to connect it from the sandbox.

Hello bro, since you are the owner of this thread, I believe you should be the best to pass the info.

is there anyone live in central Lagos like ketu, Ikeja or so. If willing, let's team together like 4 or 5, if the person is willing, let's buy unlimited data (fibreone offers unlimited data at 11k but you need the first installation that costs 37k)...if we can be up to 4, we can foot the bill, subsequent months, spend less than 3k for unlimited...and study together till we are through

On work, we can still team together and find a part time hustle we can do in the evening to get income unless we have other jobs to do.

This is not easy but it's a sacrifice of one year. My house would have been best since I have two big rooms but it's far away in ikorodu and I doubt if fibreone gets there. ..

Any better option will be appreciated....

Sharing of resources like laptop will suffice and be helpful too

Data Structures and algorithms
Side that, some of the programming languages might need you to have knowledge of maths to be able to grasp them but this is just by opinion. Don't let it get to you cause I seriously hated maths in high school but now I'm learning.

Good Morning
The reason I didn't pick telegram is because I can't afford to be in too many social media platform. There's slack, WhatsApp, Nairaland, I just can't add to it.

Hello Boss T and thanks so much for your efforts in keeping us in the loop about all things relating to the Alx Cohort. I appreciate you. Please since you are on the inside, could you find out if there will be another cohort after the Aug 15, 2022 class this year? I am interested but I am presently part of another and won't be done until Oct. Thanks.

My Journey

Before now, I have been learning frontend development using W3school and LinkedIn Learning. I even got help from a friend who linked me to a backend developer for job opportunities. But due to the fact that I was still learning and haven't built any projects, I was given a link to finish up some basics projects and get back to him.

Since then, I have been focused on learning. I intend to learn JavaScript and react before building the projects.

Now, to the matter at hand, I recently discovered ALX software engineering program through their ads, made some research and it turned out to be legit. I quickly signed up, mostly because of their curriculum (I will drop pictures on that soon), which was pretty cool since I have seen what Udacity, Coursera and other online courses have to offer on software engineering.

Another reason I signed up was because it was free! Well they said this year's program was waived by Mastercard and I will be getting a certificate after completion, love it! Though I also heard one has to pay after graduating and getting a job.

Let me break down the program duration, the software engineering program is for 12months, 70hrs a week, 10hrs a day... Maybe it won't be up to that but this is base on my research. On the first month, one is required to get 80% percent score or get eliminated! Lol not killed tho, like removed. After graduation, you get added to the "Room" for job opportunities and build your connection, cool right?

After registering for the program, I was notified the onboarding would start on 2nd of may. On 30th of April, I was sent an email to read through the curriculum, activities, required committed and projects. I will be sending screenshots of the importance ones. I realized that I will be involved in group projects, solo projects, networking and more.

@anonymous,
Do you think after you are done with this course, you'd have known enough to be a full stack devs?

Or Alx only covers the beginner/intermediate level?
