It's very doable but considering the wastage and greed of the govt, it would be hard to agree on this. |
*MODIFIED* 2,000,000 monthly As at 2019, Nigeria had about 11,877 professors (though this include both those on private and public higher institutions). That means; monthly, the government will pay 2,000,000 x 11,877 = 23,754,000,000. That's over twenty three billion naira monthly. As at today, Nigeria produces about 1.2m BPD of crude oil (Our main source of income, excluding mineral resources from the north which I don't know why they don't mention it. Only God knows where that money is going to). Using the official exchange rate of about 414 naira/dollar, If 1 barrel is about 93 dollars, this becomes 1,200,000 x 93$ = 111,600,000 per day that's a total income of 111,600,000 x 414 = 46,202,400,000 (Nigeria's income from crude oil). THEN; 46,202,400,000 x 30 days = 1,386,072,000,000. This is over 1.3 Trillion naira monthly. Boy o boy, This country is making money. SUMMARILY, THE GOVERNMENT CAN PAY ASUU COMFORTABLY. Do you know that after making that 1.3trillion , the NNpc will remain fuel subsidy which is a lot percent of this money before surrendering the rest to FG. State and local govt. 1 Like |

tony0806: There is no need to waste your analytical talent on issues that have to do with this country. The same FG that refused to pay ASUU and don’t give a F…k about the strike, is here saying nonsense. I strongly believe that the money they will pay those professors for just one month, is more than what ASUU has been demanding for months now and they refused to pay. This is nothing more than an election campaign scam. They just want to give those professors hope so that they will campaign for them during lectures. 1 Like |

IboHausaYoruba:Obi would pay Professors salary #3 million per month yet Anambra State University lecturers went on strike for over 5 months during Obi's time as governor because of their poor pay that isn't at parity with their colleagues in Federal Universities, when some states were even paying their lecturers more than the salary scale used for federal Unis. This is the same man that has suddenly become a magician to solve all Nigeria's problems and pay professors #3 million monthly. I just laugh at this stupid hype and noise you people from the South East are making on social media about this Obi. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2010/10/anambra-varsity-teachers-move-to-end-strike/ 2 Likes |

If the content of the proposal is actually true, then ASUU members are nothing but confirmed thieves as their counterparts in politics but in academic gowns. Even in decent societies that have attained far higher level of economic stability and infrastructural development, lecturers are not paid the same amount. Each university pays it's Lecturers majorly according to the income generating power of the university, and the ability of the Lecturers to attract funds. Majority of the professors in developed countries are appointed on contract basis and are renewed based on the productivity of the Professor and availability of funding. ASUU by means of strikes forced the FG to increase retirement age to 70 from 65 years in country where more 60% of the population are youth and with high level of unemployment. Majority of professors in Nigeria became professor by 45 years and unfortunately, more than 80% of them don't do anything again than to administrative duties except those guys in medical and off course they're already being paid for as they receive double salaries as professor in academic and consultant in teaching hospitals. How many states governments can conveniently pay half of the proposal? No state not even Lagos given the economic realities in Nigeria. What's the cost of living in Jos, Kaduna Ibadan that a professor wants to be earning half of that. Before you compare to any school in US, what's the cost of living in that state in US and any state in Nigeria? It must about 10times higher than Lagos that has the highest cost of living in Nigeria. What's the state of infrastructure in those States in Nigeria and states in US? If there's anything government need to massively spend on, it should be infrastructure in ALL sectors not education alone, but rather in this order ( security, health, social infrastructure and infrastructure in education) in that order. This will ensure secured and meaningful life for everyone irrespective of your income. |

It will amount to nothing because inflation will meet up with it. Currently, in Zimbabwe many will rather invest in life stocks than saving in banks. If government pays 100 billion and the instric value is worthless then it will amount to nothing. Note I wrote "will" , I am implying in nearest future. Fearyourcreator: |

tony0806:These profs went through a lot to attain this position. It is not a bad Idea to pay them 2M. They have invested in education, it is only reasonable that they rip their returns. BBNja and other stupid shows reward people who did nothing go to the academia of Nigeria. It is people like you who cripple Nigeria's education system. Do you know how much FG spends on Senators, Ex senators, governors, ex governors, President, ex presidents, footballers e.t.c? Education should be a priority in Nigeria! 2 Likes |

You are getting it all wrong. ASUU never demanded for 2M. It was a recommendation by a committee that was setup by the federal government. |
Re: FG Committee Recommends ₦ 2 Millions Monthly Pay For Professors by PJ123: 7:45am On Jul 15, 2022 |
Obidient4life2: It's so simple, if you want to earn as much senators, resign and go contest. And unfortunately for you, the salaries of a professor and senators are almost the same thing currently. They majorly convert constituencies allowances for for their personal use, that's why their living that bogus life apart from budget padding and other forms of stealing. Stop being a fool, what we should all be clamouring for Nigeria to develop is how to eliminate all the corruption in governance so we channel our income infrastructural development and not payment of salaries. |
