The U.S. Air Force has received a high-energy laser weapon that can be carried by aircraft in podded form. The news came today when Lockheed Martin disclosed that at least one of the weapons, which it developed, has been delivered to the Air Force for test work. This effort falls within the wider framework of still-evolving plans to have laser-armed fighter jets that can engage enemy missiles, and possibly other targets too.

A report today from Breaking Defense confirmed that Lockheed Martin delivered its LANCE high-energy laser weapon to the Air Force in February this year. In this context, LANCE stands for “Laser Advancements for Next-generation Compact Environments.” The recipient for the new weapon is the Air Force Research Laboratory, or AFRL, which is charged with developing and integrating new technologies in the air, space, and cyberspace realms.

Tyler Griffin, a Lockheed executive, had previously told reporters that LANCE “is the smallest, lightest, high-energy laser of its power class that Lockheed Martin has built to date.”

No country in the world has publicly admitted to testing a “pod” size air mounted laser weapon.
Isreal was the first to publicly admitted to installing one on “a small plane” some months ago. But nobody else has demonstrated that they are testing a “pod” size.
Prove me wrong though.

False when it comes to laser weaponary US leads followed by China then Russia. US has been deploying laser weapon since the past decades but currently there're trying to perfect their energy consumptions, heat management, increase laser power output and make it miniature to fit into aircraft like f35(which I believe Lockheed just unveiled). In all this aspect Russian is still far behind.

But how effective are laser weapon against target. Forget all those star wars concepts I don't think they're laser powerful enough to slice through steel at long ranges in few seconds. Though it's cheap per shot but still less effective especially against hard skin target, in some atmospheric condition like in fogs and cloudy areas or if a target uses smokes and other counter measures can it obscure the laser beem concentration.
While aircraft based laser can have a defensive effect like for hard kill against incoming missiles its effective use offensively is yet to be achieved

The US navy have had this type of installation this same time of the year, that’s no big deal. This is exactly what Isreal tested in a much smaller plane.

The US is testing a POD mounted to a plane NOW. What’s you people’s probably with no giving credit to who deserves it.

Russia remains the first country to deploy its laser weapon in war to blind satellites (Ukraine 2022) also first to PUBLICLY test its laser 1984 or so and the US promptly made its own public in the early 1991 or so, nobody argued that. It’s the US time, stop trying to change facts bro.
