Aregbesola should have nothing to worry about this,he is supposed to be happy that someone is recording him
He may be the one who planned it self just to trend to mock oyetola and Tinubu ahead of the loss they suffered.

I think the guy recording is just being stupid. If a stranger just comes and starts following me around and recording me closely with my camera, I believe I have the right to even smash his phone for invading my privacy and threatening my life.
First of all, remember that nobody knows you. You are not a public figure. Aregbe is a public figure in public space. In America, he can be recorded. The only problem I have with the guy recording is that he’s too close. He could do that 8 feet’s away with no problem

Exactly! That's an invasion of private space. If he was recording from a distance, that's another issue. But coming up to his face and shouting "this is America" is unacceptable. Aregbesola should have simply called the police or security.

As an American lawyer, I’ll tell you that the police or security wouldn’t have done anything because the person broke no laws.

Most Nigerians in America are very funny.
The Bushman was hard shouting this is America , but he was seen violating someome else's privacy

He is not violating his privacy. When you are public, there is no expectation of privacy. The US supreme Court has long established that. That's why the paparazzi can camp outside your house and take pics. Like he said "this is America "

Following you around is another matter which may be unlawful
The principle is that it is lawful to make a video recording. Doing so in an intrusive manner e.g shining bright lights on a person's face, invading personal space making abusive or inappropriate remarks etc may be a public order offence but if I am not in your personal space I can record even the police.
If you are in public you cannot assert "privacy" violation. Smashing phone?? Well are you King Kong.? You go look face before you smash. No matter how hard you are there is always a harder man.
This is the US where people carry guns so that approach might get you some surprises . You have no right to smash anyone's phone but could lose your life trying to do that. Violence as tempting as it is solves few things

That he was faking Mr Gentle or not is not actually my concern here, I just think he would have been able to achieve more by having him on video and still do the talking with him. The honest truth we all cannot just agree with each other, life is fashioned that way so you can have your opinion no problem.
Nigerians are not really good people ... They only cry for their greed not that they want their Neighbors live fine not finer but fine...

The moment he requested to stop being followed and recorded, what that man was doing automatically turned into an invasion of privacy and harrassment. If the police were there, the man would have been dragged away.

You're in a free country doesnt mean you have the right to freely walk up to a person, invade their space and start recording them without their consent.

No invasion of privacy occurred. The police would’ve calmly explained that there’s no privacy in a public space.

oga the way the law handles such privacy of public figure is different from normal persons except not in ur shithole.

He isn’t considered a public figure in America. He’s an ordinary man, a guest, an everyday person. Public and private figures can be recorded without permission in public.

I just read a piece; there's no law in most parts of the US against recording a video of a person without their permission, as long as your video has no audio recording. Making an audio recording of a person without their permission is against the law.

Audio recording over the phone without permission is a law in a few of the 50 states. What you read doesn’t apply to video. No law prohibits what the guy did.

A former governor and a minister of the federal republic of Nigeria. Is he not a minister? They all have diplomatic passport to travel with, with special visa privilege at the embassy . Even ex governors have it

Yes , by law. But you have the right to go to court and report to the police.
Police will determine if any crime has been committed and court if your rights are been infringed.

It's one of the blessings and challenges of a free society like America.

Reason we have a multi billion dollar paparazzi industry.

That’s right. People record politicians, police, celebrities, and regular citizens here all the time, yelling out questions. And they’re within their rights.

How?
America has got funny laws ooo.
One is you don't go after a SHOPLIFTER even if you are the security guard on duty.
U observe & call the police.
So, shoplifters can go into a shop that has customers, steal & walk away with loots.
Laws many here ooo.
That is not a law. It's just a company policy adopted by most retail stores to avoid lawsuits.

The idiot is a big fool. That u r in America, does that gives u d audacity to record someone without his consent? Even when he blatantly told u he's declind u recording him? People r just being stupid. Aregbesola should just press charges against d idiot.
Where ur right stops, someone elses right begins. Ur right isn't absolutes. U don't exercise ur right 2 d violation of mother's rights. This is really insane.

For those of you still foaming int the mouth about public figures,

"In what states is it illegal to record someone without their knowledge?
Eleven states require two-party consent, however. In other words, everyone involved in a conversation must agree to be recorded. Those states are California, Delaware, Florida, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, and Washington.Mar 18, 2022"

Even the ones that do not require two party consent, you can be gotten for federal wiretap law violation or simply harassment. I'm sure Aregbesola can spend $20,000 to bury this fool in legal expenses. In fact, if it was me, i will sue him in a location so far from where he lives, his transportation to attend court summons will bankrupt him.

Those of you who are yapping about public figure and paparazzi. It's one thing to be a journalist looking to ask questions. That's why journalists wear a badge called press. So they can ask you questions if you consent to answer. If you're not a member of the press and you come disturb me while I'm eating with my family, recording me against my will. Not with any news media or organization. Just plain harassment, shebi na land of the free. I go bury you in legal paperwork, you go declare bankruptcy.

ALL OF THIS REPLIES TO AUDIO RECORDING, LIKE WIRETAPPING. This DOES NOT apply to video.
