Some truth, laced with lies grin
There is press conference schedule for Tuesday, but it is to make some clarifications as to many lies being peddled by Ngige and his team!
This strike will continue for as long as the FG is ready to wait before implementing the agreed agreement embarassed

ASUU should reconsider their stand and suspend the strike. The FG is willing to accede to their demands once they return to lecture rooms.

If that's what ASUU is waiting for, then they should prepare to be on strike for years. Because the strike doesn't affect the people they think they are fighting.

Story.

Just watch and see.

They will temporarily suspend the strike on that Tuesday press conference.

ASUU and strike na 5 & 6.

The pattern has always been the same thing.

ASUU will go on strike. When hunger begins to waya dem due to stoppage of salaries, dem go suspend the strike. Only for them to pick up the strike from where they stopped some other time.

In all these petty games ASUU and FG are always playing between themselves, I pity the Nigerian students because na dem na suffer am pass.

OK.
The only problem is that I can't see you, otherwise I would have suggested we bet 10k naira embarassed, but I will quote you on Wednesday to remind you of the result of the press conference by ASUU smiley
For the records, there are two things that may happen tomorrow:
1). The press conference may be cancelled!
2). The press conference may hold and among many things that will be said, ASUU will insist that FG should sign the agreement before them and they are ready to resume work, if that is done!

The embarrassing salary of a Nigerian university lecturer.

“On salaries of lecturers, I feel ashamed because I had the privilege to represent Nigeria at a global conference where former presidents and prime ministers were in attendance. I was asked if it is true that a professor after 20 years still earns less than a thousand dollars a month, I couldn’t answer that question, I only said that we are doing something about it".
~ Sonny Echono, The retired permanent secretary turned TETFund ES.

You don't know how embarrassing the salary of a Nigerian Lecturer is till you are filing a form to compete with academics around the world and on the form, you are to select your current salary. It is usually in dollars. Our salary range is usually not on the list. You have to state the dollar equivalent of your salary on the provided empty field named "others". It is not on the drop-down menu because an academic anywhere in the world is not expected to earn such a ridiculous salary.

When the Nigerian government knows the worth of their universities, the Professor's salary was next to the salary of the CJN. But today, ordinary tax collectors at FIRS earn higher than Professors. And the Ministry of Finance where there was more than N170bn for the suspended AGF to swindle is blabbing that a Professor cannot earn a naira equivalent of $3,000 and Nigerians are clapping. Tomorrow you will be asking why Nigerian Professors can't be like the Professors in Oxford. Are they treated like Oxford Professors?

When we are ready to make progress, there will be a call for a national conference with all the stakeholders in attendance to discuss "our idea of a Nigerian university system".

We all know that lecturers in Nigeria are being underpaid. I know their plight. I'm currently undertaking my second degree, and my supervisor is a professor. I know how him and his other colleagues have been coping. With the look of things now, it seems ASUU is holding FG to ransom, which is not good enough. What ASUU is doing to the FG now, they(ASUU) will never accept that from students body.Just like what the FG is proposing, ASUU should return to lecture rooms while negotiation continues.

Returning to class while negotiation continues will not work! ASUU have been returning to class and back to strike for the past 13 years and their is no point continuing the circle.

This problem is not peculiar to ASUU alone, it's same for Doctors, Lawyers ,Nurses, Engineers etc.
The only solution is to put the right people in the right places and this can only be achieved collectively.
Going on incessant annual strike is not the ideal thing.
I snuck into a forum filled with lecturers and most of them are happy with the strike, while some don't mind the strike going on for as long as two years, because according to them, now they have the time to face other businesses while expressing delight that their accumulated withheld wages will eventually be paid without working.

Exactly! The truth is the effect these incessant strikes cause on the educational system in the country is far worst than the outcome or aims the lectures are trying to fight for, many unions are already dissociating themselves from ASUU already...

If the means of channelling your issues to the FG is causing more harm than good to a system and its isn't working cause ASUU has been known for their strike for years, why not implore a better means,

It's a sad thing that the lectures are being underpaid but there are many other unions in this country that are suffering same issues, it's how bad the Nigeria system is...
