That doesn't change the fact that the guy does not have the right to record aregbesola without permission, Nigerian are our own problem ! Why would you disgrace and publicly disrespect a minister representing your own country just to chase clout on social media and then we ask why other countries don't respect us? This Is a big shame! Not a fan of Aregbesola but this was very sheepish... Guy started using fake accent then he couldn't keep up. In America, it's not likely you're that close to the President not to talk of engaging him in such manner. While I get the need to demonstrate the political elites' failures and irresponsibility, it shouldn't be at this level. Too low. Aregbesola should press charges especially with regards to privacy and harassment. He should help our investigative journalist's village people catch up with him. |

wirinet:Of course the guy doing the recording was too much in aregbe’s face and that’s the only problem there. He could have recorded him like 8 feet away and that wouldn’t have been any problem whether the minister liked it or not as much as the guy doesn’t touch him. He was obviously in his personal space. |

aribisala0:Apparently there's no law against videoing a person in public. But it's important to keep a 'reasonable' distance. The man videoing Aregbe obviously wasn't keeping a 'reasonable' distance, he was right in his face and literally harrassing him - public official or not, that was wrong! I believe while the law doesnt prohibit videoing a person without their consent, the law doesnt permit you to audio record a person without their permission. So in this context, I guess 'reasonable distance' may be defined as 'a distance far enough to catch an audio recording of whatever the person is saying'. |

Alajiki:Whether it was stupid and wrong is one thing and whether is legal is another thing. The thing is, the recording is not illegal in America in as much as the guy was not in aregbe’s personal space or in his face |
Re: "You Can Not Record Me" Aregbesola Spotted "Arguing" With Nigerian In America by obailala(m): 12:22pm On Jul 17, 2022 |
1stGenAmerican:The law doesnt prohibit video recording a person in a public space, as long as you keep a 'REASONABLE DISTANCE'. The laws also doesnt permit audio recording a person without their permission. So in this context, 'reasonable distance' may just be defined as 'a distance far enough for you not to capture an audio recording of the person's private conversation in your video'. Imagine for one second that that was a young lady with a child, and then the man walks up to her, right in her face and starts videoing. You really think the law would permit such invasion simply because it's a public place? That man was in Aregbe's face literally, that was a clear case of invasion and the police would have dragged him away to at least 10 metres away. |

wirinet: It may not be the most sensible way... but it is an effective way. Politicians say and do as they please because there are no consequences. Nigerians at home cannot freely express how they feel about them ... or do anything to them because there will be serious consequences. Abroad... it's a different story... the politician and the common man are on the same level. I fully support the heckling... and filming and shaming and embarrassing and roughing up and even stoning (if it's safe to do so) of any of these crooked politicians abroad. They must not know peace abroad. Politicians can't do without traveling abroad... if the bad ones are mobbed on their travels.... I can guarantee you they will be trying to do the right thing at home and the country will be better. In this case.... I don't agree with the guy making all that noise in the venue. That kind noise is for outside. He should have sat down with him ... filmed even the woman which... yea which .... witch may not even be his wife.... aired some of his grievances... like is the money spent on this rendezvous our taxpayers money? ... and madam you look familiar... wasn't it you that approached my car late one nite at the red light few weeks back in Abuja wanting to ask me something?... and shout him down if he goes outside. 1 Like |

aribisala0:Was exaggerating when I said "smashing his phone". But the point is that the man was clearly invading another person's privacy. No crime in recording a person in public, but you have to keep a reasonable distance. That man was literally in Aregbe's face and following him around. |

drakeli:You're correct, whether he's a private or public figure doesnt matter in this case. Videoing a person in public isnt also the issue; the issue here is that he didnt keep a reasonable distance, and that already constitutes an invasion of private space/harassment. 1 Like |

obailala: I’ll ask you kindly to please stop attempting to educate me on the law, especially when you don’t have a good understanding of those very laws. You’re misinterpreting the law and conflating wiretapping and recording laws with videotaping and it’s like comparing mangoes to garden eggs. Even with wiretapping and recording phone conversations, some states don’t require advance permission. Video Recording and taking photos of people in public spaces, whether it includes sound or not, is legal in all 50 states. You continue to beat a dead horse because Aregbe was in a public space and there is no privacy within public spaces. Regardless of how you twist it, the man recording him committed no crime. |

Re: "You Can Not Record Me" Aregbesola Spotted "Arguing" With Nigerian In America by 1stGenAmerican(f): 12:36pm On Jul 17, 2022 |
obailala: “A reasonable distance” can be argued in any court of law. What you consider reasonable May not be reasonable to me. You’re trying to move the goalposts and it’s not working. The police wouldn’t have done anything which is why the politician didn’t call them. He knows that he is only out of the public’s reach in Nigeria. |

obailala:Which law does not permit audio recording without permission?. Whether or not he was keeping a reasonable distance is debatable. I do not know and neither do you. You say he was "in his face" ? Did he kiss him? We did not even see the guy's face or body and can only infer from the video At some point in the video it was Aregbesola that moved TOWARD the guy to block recording. So one could argue they were in each other's faces. There is in some US states a principle of stand your ground . Let us not comment on things we are not witnesses to as if we were. I am only talking about the legal principles IN GENERAL. You say he was "harassing" him. Well that is an opinion. others might say he was trolling .I do not want to get into debates about opinions. What is a fact is that at some point Aregbesola invited him to sit with him so if harassment occurred at what point did an invitation to sit change to a harassment experience. I do not know the law for that particular jurisdiction but generally harassment would indicate actions OCCURRING AT LEAST TWICE. on two or more separate occasions The legal principle of concern is what are the redress options to harassment. In approaching any debate it is important to clarify what the issues are to avoid being all over the place. 1 Like |
