Once you are outside your fucking house....you got no right on who record you or not, Except the restaurant or the place you are, who owns the place think otherwise! That is how even the American police get captured when doing beyond their brief! Na Tinubu i dey wait for Chicago, where he's already forfeit some cash due to drug peddling... Bigkoko: It’s great that at least a few monikers took note of this. The delegation of politicians that went to the UK thought they were going to bend UK law but the Brits said No Sir. Wait until the people inside Nigeria stop kowtowing to them like the people outside of Nigeria. 99 days for the Nigerian politicians, one day for the Nigerian citizens with integrity. |

1stGenAmerican: Agree, but not in a provocative way, moreover Aregbesola is not Biden or a star in America. |

Bigkoko: These guys think that Nigerian politicians are above the law outside of their own country when there are multiple examples proving they aren’t. They get very little respect because outsiders know they mistreat their constituents but it’s crazy that outsiders are more concerned about Nigerian citizens getting better treatment than the citizens of Nigeria are. Stockholm Syndrome! 1 Like |

aribisala0: That’s not true. I have a right not to be filmed (distance or otherwise)… even more so in Europe with the GDPR or the US. |

And how did he not act in a manner of respect we are all mad at this politicians but that doesn't mean that we should me acting like savages, if that guy does not respect his office atleast respect his age! If I was the one that the guy tried such nonsense with I would break his phone and still he does not have the right to record another person with out permission thank you. 1stGenAmerican: |

If any moniker wonders why I’m passionate about this topic it’s because I’m 1/2 Nigerian and I hate Nigerian politicians. They arrogantly oppress and sabotage Nigerian citizens when there are some citizens with no political background who are capable of running the country thrice better than these so-called seasoned politicians. I’ve witnessed how they treat Nigerians like serfs and I’m happy to see them get the same treatment they give. Citizens care more about the politicians than the politicians will ever care about them. 3 Likes 1 Share |

https://laws101.com/recording-me-without-my-permission/ Reasonable expectation of privacy is key here. I would think someone trying to eat in a restaurant would rather not have a stranger shove a camera in his face.

1stGenAmerican:Keep misinterpreting the rule! If you are making a video and someone passes by or is at the background and you capture the person in your video that is not illegal. But when you go directly to video someone without his permission like the guy did that is illegal and that is what the law says. Period! Have a good day. |

ElSudani: It clearly says that the wiretap act doesn’t apply to video recordings. It applies to telecommunications. There is no expectation of privacy in a public place. 1 Like |

1stGenAmerican: I will teach you a bit of of the law. Your blanket statement is wrong! There are underlying questions to be decided by the Courts - I.e What’s the purpose of the filming? You should understand that Private PERSONS have a right to their privacy and this trumps your right to filming - except in few public interest cases such as crime reporting, public officials etc. As such, If you deliberately go film someone else - just as in this case - you are defo liable. At the very least - the person has not consented to you filming him - and secondly - you have done that with malice aforethought, more so, after he continues to refuse to grant consent. People filming general things publicly is fine - but you cannot deliberately target people with your filming without their consent! |

1stGenAmerican: Well... Oppression is in the blood of Nigerians. 90% of Nigerians will do the exact same thing once they touch power. The other day we were in traffic and there was a convoy. As expected, blowing siren. At the end of the convoy was a 2004 Toyota camry. This car was doing the nonsense we associate with most convoy/siren drivers, swerving violently from left to right in a show of power. That is the real story, most Nigerians are just waiting for their opportunity to oppress 1 Like 1 Share |

Venerable612: Yes you can. Ask Derrick Chauvin, Joe Biden, Jay Z, Elon Musk, or any other American citizen who knows their rights and American law. Do you think Derrick Chauvin gave his permission for the citizen to record the video that landed his ass in prison? An illegally recorded video wouldn’t have been used in a court of law. If the police can be filmed without their permission then why is a foreign politician special? You can film whoever you chose in public while on US soil as long as you do not touch them or threaten them with danger of bodily harm. Goodbye. 1 Like |

drakeli:Bros if you are making a video for example in a restaurant and someone passes by or the person is within the radius of your view and you capture the person in the video that is NOT illegal. If however you go to the person directly to video without permission like what the guy did it is illegal and that is what the law says. I am not insinuating that shooting somebody is right but I was just explaining the extent to which people can go if you do that and it has happened to many people. |

1stGenAmerican: In what situation would a "reasonable expectation of privacy" apply? In a restaurant while you are eating would be one of such scenarios to me. |

This man does not realize that he is in America and in a public space, hence he has no right NOT to be recorded. Nigerian politicians and their feeling of entitlement. |

ElSudani: A reasonable expectation is subjective. What you consider reasonable is not what every other human would consider reasonable and a judge may not agree with either person’s definition of reasonable. The law can’t be bent to suit one’s own situation. The only privacy you can expect in the US is in a private dwelling or government building. |

aribisala0: With all due respect, I doubt that most of the monikers speaking on US law have ever been to the US. I’m going to allow them to believe whatever they choose to just as I stood back as they swore that Ekwemudu would be fully exonerated by this time. |

drakeli: He was in Aregbesola's personal space. That exactly is my point. He did not record him from afar. He did that with the intent of humiliating him. Aregbesola even offered him courtesy by asking him to sit down even when it was plain for all to see that the guy just wanted to humiliate him. You see, I don't know Aregbesola from Adams and I don't even like him, but, what goes round comes round. I can bet with my balls that the same guy would never have accepted that. What he did was illegal and I can tell you that if Aregbesola wanted to take this up, that guy would be sanctioned. You can show this video to a lawyer and seek his opinion from legal angle. |
