Uruguay to The Netherlands

As a young man, with not much experience about life, my friends and I spent most of our free times, chasing women.

We would go to the hot spots like malls, social events like skateboarding competitions, music and dance events to find women to “toast”.

Sometimes I will introduce girls to my friends, and sometimes they will introduce girls to me. Na so we do until I jam this Dutch girl.

My friend called me one afternoon, and said he had a blond European for me. I said okay that I will be there.

We met at a bar with a pool table. My friend came with a girl I introduced him to a while back. I met her because she was a friend to a girl I was dating at the time.

But now I’m single again and I’m the one in need lol

I got there and met this tall Dutch girl, we talked and exchanged numbers.

Then, emails was our way of texting lol, cause the phones then where landlines.

One Saturday like that I went clubbing somewhere, and then I ran into another friend that was with a girl and her friend. So he introduced me to the single girl. We sat down and were talking and I see that this girl has a ring in her tongue. So I said “I heard that it’s sweet kissing again with a tongue ring”, she said “that is true”, so I “Do I get the chance to find out” and she said “Maybe”. For the next 5 minutes I did not say a word as I was thinking what “Maybe” means. Yes or No? Well, I just went in for the kiss and she was really receptive, and we started tongue each other. Lol

A week after that, I was at a club with the Dutch girl, it was around my birthday, she wished me a happy birthday, and so I asked her if I get a birthday kiss and she said “Maybe”, I just went in for the kiss right away, because I learned a week before that “Maybe” means yes! Lol

That’s how our relationship started. Weeks later we became boyfriend and girlfriend.

We started hanging out a lot and doing things together. Her parents came to Uruguay from the Netherlands to visit and I met them.

Meeting her parents was interesting, because this girl is in the corporate world, in a managerial position, and here she is dating a baggy pants wearing, pants sagging, black dude from Nigeria, with not such a good job. Lol I think I was a delivery boy at this time.

But love is powerful. So my guys and girls, make una make sure so they fall in love o! Lol

We went to different parts of Uruguay on vacation, and one time we crossed the border to Brazil with a Brazilian friend and her boyfriend, to spend time at the Brazilian girl’s grandparents’ house for 2 nights.

Months later, she went back to the Netherlands and asked me to apply for visa. She happens to know one of the ladies at the Dutch embassy in Montevideo, so she was the one I gave all my documents. I had to show proof of residence in Uruguay and proof of a job.
I don’t know if I already said this, but getting resident permit in Uruguay was easy and straightforward. My guess is that it’s still the same till today.
It’s not a country that many people are running to.

I got a visa for 1 month. I visited for 1 month and went back to Uruguay.

Months later she came to Uruguay on vacation. We broke up, she left, I stayed. In 2001 the economy of many countries in South America crashed. Then I had a Graphic Design job with the Dad of my Canadian friends.
That company also went bankrupt. So I decided to move back to Nigeria.

I moved back to Nigeria. At this time my Mom and sisters were living in Ikotun. They moved back to Nigeria after spending 2 years Uruguay.

My 3 older brothers had moved to the US.

In Nigeria, I started working at a printing place in Surulere. There were times I wondered if I will ever be able to travel outside of the country.
Because my Uruguayan permit expired a year after I arrived in Nigeria.

But, years later the Dutch girl emailed me, saying she could not stop thinking about me!
She had not clue I had moved back to Nigeria. She was very surprised to hear that, because she was planning on going to Ghana, to study African Philosophy.

So she asked if I would be willing to travel to Ghanan to meet up, which I did by road. It was crazy, but I survived. Lol

We talked about getting back together, and we also talked about her visiting Nigeria.

After 4 days, I went back to Nigeria. When she went back to the Netherlands, we made plans for her to visit Nigeria. She enjoyed it and we went to many places in Nigeria. We went to some cultural places she has read about.

After her visit we started planning for me to visit the Netherlands. I applied for visa in Abuja, got it and went there during Christmas for 1 month.

When I returned to Nigeria, we started working on immigration visa. She had to get a lot of documents, and a lot of our communication from Uruguay, to show that we have known each other for a very long time. In Europe, you are allowed to bring in boyfriend or girlfriend, you don’t need to be married, you just need to show that it’s a strong relationship and has been going on for a while.

But in the US, you can only bring in someone you’re married to or plan to marry 90 days once they arrive in the US.

My visa was granted and so I threw a party that I called birthday party, without telling most people that I was about to Japa for life! Lol

Take a look the party photos and see if you guys recognize 1 or two people there, apart from me and my girlfriend.

When my girlfriend came to Nigeria, my sisters were in the University then, so we went to visit.

There is this famous lady called Nike and we went to her workshop. We also stayed at her hotel in the area, I think in Abeokuta.

There streets there and other things we saw.
