@tiffanydavies.
You or the applicant is already a Canadian PR holder which is a plus plus.
Avoid too much shalaye and apply as tourist/standard visitor visa since you dnt have so many documents to back up an official visit.
You won’t be getting less than 6 months.
So u can apply for 7 day visit and submit all the necessary documents .
When you are in town, you attend your personal conference for 2 days thts all .

TiffanyDavies:
Hello,

This is a follow-up to yesterday's question; after choosing the business category, one of the optional documents the UK gov requested is a letter from the employer/business sponsoring the trip. The problem is that the trip is self-sponsored and coincides with time off work (vacation). The intent is to attend the conference for two days to boost the attendee's portfolio for research publications and go sightseeing for the remaining 7-day-stay. The above are personal plans, and the employer has no input. The company's culture does not include leave of absence letters. Anyone is free to travel with full salaries for up to one month in a calender year as long as they meet yearly quotas.

Wouldn't the above travel plan be more suited to a tourist visa than any other type of visa? If yes, isn't it better to choose the 'other option in the photo below and explain the situation? Is the 'other' option applicable to tourist visas? The 'other' option only requires three documents: a passport, proof of funds and documentation showing legal residency in the country of residence. We assume that the other documents one can include in this category include a conference invitation, UK travel itinerary and travel plans to other countries for the vacation's duration.

Also, what would be anyone's best recommendation for a hotel reservation? The conference venue is close to the airport. Is it better to lodge in an airport hotel for the conference duration and move to a hotel in the touristy area afterwards? Please help!

My last application for 5 years visa took 12 days from submission of biometrics on 10/03/2022 to collection of passport on 25/03/2022 for an academic conference. If the conference is your primary reason. Select business
For Host: provide the name of the contact/organizer, email and telephone number and address. You will also need an invitation letter from the conference organizer. There will an opportunity for elaborate and give more detail on the main reason for your visit and other activities you will do after the conference. If you decide to go the way of a tourist then you do not need provide the above information.

I do not know if anything has changed since my last trip.
My kids are US citizens, and the last time we were in London was 2019. Just their US passport provided it's not a long stay. Our stay on each trip to the UK is usually a maximum of 2 weeks.
Hope they have Nigerian passport because you will require that for their return back to the country (Nigeria).

I don’t think you need a transit visa with a valid UK visa. You will not pass through immigration. I used KLM/Air France to UK in 2019.

this is not applicable in 2022. Since February 2021 due to brexit 3rd country nationals need it . Nigeria is on that list… you are only exempted as a Nigerian if you have a valid USA, Canada, Schenghen or Japanese visa or passport

It is not a must. Taking you dependent along with you to the UK on a student visa is optional. I hope the scholarship is for post graduate studies.

US citizens are visa free to the UK. That is they do not require a visa to visit the UK. Having said that. You can carry their birth certificate just in case the POE asked to show that you’re their mother. The POE many cross-checked if you added your US kids in your visa application as dependents.

Things has change a lot for Nigerian passport holder. You are right. The poser should check this website for information on how to apply for ATV. https://www.netherlandsworldwide.nl/visa-the-netherlands/airport-transit-visa/apply-nigeria

Better still, poser can avoid the Schengen area by using airlines like Turkish, Ethiopia, Kenya or Emirate.

Better remove Turkish they have cancelled the E visa (just to spite them) use Qatar, Emirates KLM France and Lufthansa all require transit visa.... its best you just apply for a visa than wastebasket money on transit only transit does not require account statements

There are some airports that doesn't require a transit visa within 24/48 hours of transitioning or transit. Pls lets be guided. So far your country of destination is not within shenghe counties and you are not stepping foot out of the airport. Check Airport like Berlin,Munich,Frankfurt... Fly British for peace of mind.

What part of the rules have changed are we not grabbing?
That’s how we have misled people and they reached airport and could not fly. Wasted lots of money.
Since UK did Brexit all rules have changed for nationals of certain countries of which Nigeria is among.
The airlines to be used are- Royal air maroc, egypt air, british airways, virgin atlantic, ethiopian airways, qatar airways, emirates airlines, kenya airways… Turkish airlines can be used but for long transit times where one was entitled to hotel stay they will no longer issue E- visas so you cant even leave the airport anymore.

If you want to travel to UK via KLM, Air France, Swiss air, Brussels airlines and Lufthansa you must have Transit visa. They are calling it the Airport transit visa now… commenced in February 2021. Again you must.
You will only be exempted if you have the passport or visa of USA, Canada, Japan or Schenghen countries.
If you have not travelled with any of these airlines since February 2021(with a Nigerian passport and no other concessions) to the UK pls dnt misdirect. Cheers

Hello Guys,
Received a response on the paid mail i sent last night.
Biometric date was June 29.
The response - Decision has been made. wait 10 working days to get a response from the VAC to review your passport or have it delivered to you.

Has anyone had this kind of mail? How long did it take to receive one's passport? Will this exceed the 10 working days they have stated?

Any idea will be appreciated.

Same requirement for anyone with a Nigerian passport applying from Nigeria. You must demonstrate to ECO that you will leave the UK after your trip. Read through backward for the documents you need to submit. Your US green card only permit you to also apply from the US.

Misconception wasn't intentionally. Idly the blow message will put away anyone in doubt as well...

Nationals of the following countries do not have the transit privilege and therefore require an airport transit visa (category A) for transit at a German airport:

Afghanistan
Bangladesh
Democratic Republic of the Congo
Eritrea
Ethiopia
Ghana
India
Iran
Iraq
Jordan *
Lebanon
Mali
Nigeria
Pakistan
Somalia
South Sudan
Sri Lanka
Sudan
Syria
Turkey *
* certain exceptions apply to these countries

Exceptions from the requirement to hold an airport transit visa:

Holders of valid visas and national residence permits from EU and Schengen countries
Holders of certain national residence permits from the following countries: Andorra, Japan, Canada, San Marino, United States of America
Holders of valid visas from the EEA countries (the EU, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland) and visas issued by Japan, Canada and the United States of America
