Am working towards a factor that by the end of the year I would be able to gather at least 50 chicks with just one hen. Do the calculations. 50 chicks ×500=20k minimum. I only feed the hen once a day, with patience and focus this can generate alot of money for your household as plan B. 3 Likes 1 Share

@op, how can your hen start laying on the 9th of a month and hatches the eggs on the 18th of same month, that's impossible, since it takes 21 days for a hen to incubate and hatch, how come yours is taking only 9 days? Haba naa 1 Like |

No sir, they don't. I can't count how many times I have done this and haven't lost any except for a day hawk took one when I let them out while cleaning their place. Birds don't necessarily need their mother. What the mother does is cover them from cold and find food for them. Give them those two and of course water in a clean place and that is it. I take care of mine the way I would broiler, noiler etc. Healthquest: 5 Likes |

Thanks a lot for this info op. I have this same idea. The only info I was looking for is how long it takes a local hen to lay again if you do not allow it to brood the chicks and you have given a precise and practical answer to that. God bless you! Tommymoses: |

Obaman12:Thanks boss Man, for following this thread. Concerning the feeding I feed the chick with just granded corn, local fowl don't need any commercial feed. Also I free range them exactly after 4 weeks, plus I do pack them in the evening inside the cage. They roam around my compound, if them steal my fowl them don steal ogun (God of iron) b dat. 5 Likes |

Tommymoses: Lmao [I dey believe you man]. But don't you think that it'll be nearly impossible to notice when your fowl get stolen especially as the number increases? Remember, your plan [from your write up] is to target close to 500 hens, each producing 50 chicks per year. All amounting to 25,000 fowls. That will be too much wahala to cope, and plus the fact that local fowls dey craze on a norm. When I start, I won't go that high sha, 100 hens at 50 chicks per year [5000 fowls] will be a great target for me. 1 Like |

Good evening peeps. Just a little update about local chicken farming, I was surprised on Sunday when my mom called me. I was told by mom that shrew(Eku-Asin) has killed my whole newly hatch chick, I was depressed and scattered. How could this be possible? How come. I went to check by myself to see how far, I almost vomit when I saw the innocent chick killed by that wicked shrew(Eku-Asin)... I packed the chick and give them befitting burial. So sad to loose my precious chick... 1 Like |
