ZombieSlayer1: USE YOUR FCKING BRAIN. Do you even know what the annual budget of this country is? Why should the govt use limited public funds to go and start buying commercial aircraft? Do you think the senate will approve of that spending? Or your thick skull doesn't know such purchases need senate approval? The airline is only half-owned by the govt, so why should they use public funds to buy commercial aircraft? And quit comparing it to mushroom airlines and asking why the latter could establish so quickly. You are not a two year old. |

Quintopia:You keep sounding more stupid with every word you make. The government can't use public fund to buy airlines that the public can use, but they can use public fund to buy private jets that they themselves can use, right? Are they using the airlines for charity? people won't pay to use them? The Airline is "Nigeria AIr", it's a national carrier and it's government owned. People like you tend to reason through their anus in their quest to defend foolishness but you tend to come out as a simpleton. Defending foolishness must be a full-time job for you |
Re: Hadi Sirika: Nigeria Air To Lease Aircraft For Commencement Of Operations by Quintopia: 10:24pm On Jul 27, 2022 |
ZombieSlayer1: DUMBO. Nigeria Air is not a govt-owned airline!! They cannot use public funds to buy aircraft! It is akin to a PPP (Public-Private Partnership) arrangement. ''In 2017, the Nigerian government announced it will invest US$5 million in the venture. However, the Minister for State Aviation, Hadi Sirika, insists that the airline will be privately-operated. "It is a business, not a social service. The government will not be involved in running it or deciding who runs it. The investors will have full responsibility for this." According to a tweet by Tolu Ogunlesi, a Nigerian government communications official, the government will not own more than 5% of the airline.'' https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nigeria_Air PHEW! |

A320 costs between $77M and $129M but your so-called mushroom airline bought two. Keep defending foolishness |

ZombieSlayer1: The fact that you know such an amount was stolen is a sign of progress. In decades past, you wouldn't even know. The thief will repay the money, so that is no excuse to say the FG must buy and run commercial aircraft. If you had a clue how Nigeria Airways went, you would be happy with the current arrangement involving the private sector. |

ZombieNation: You have to be really clued-on to understand the way Buhari and his sidekick Sirika think! The two have a Fulani supremacist mindset and are chronically anti-Igbo! They are bristling with hate and anger that a Igbo man owns the largest airline in West Africa, and they’re trying to codedly find a way to undercut his dominance of the sector by floating this DOA Nigeria Air….or whatever they call it! They can’t be so overt about this as Allen Onyema has been quite subservient and respectful enough to the ruling Fulani hegemony, so they have to do it codedly! Ask yourself, if the Buhari gov’t is that desperate to participate in the aviation business, why not approach Air Peace to buy a 20% stake in his business like they did with Dangote refinery when the miraculously managed to find a couple of billions of dollars to buy into the refinery!? Ask yourself why, till today, they couldn’t be assed to finish the new international terminal building at AIIA, Enugu, like they’ve done with the ones in Kano, Abuja, Lagos and Port Harcourt!? They have this conquering mindset not just for territory, but for the political-economy of Nigeria as well! They’re using the few months they have left in office (they’re probably not a 100% sure another Fulani will take over in 2023) to ensure they control all the commanding heights of the economy, and where they find they can’t control any sector, and a Igbo is the leader in said sector, they will use underhand/coded tactics to try and frustrate the Igbo man’s business! You’ve seen them do this with INNOSON and Air Peace owners in the past! SEPLAT is the leading indigenous player in the oil and gas sector….FACT! And the coy has a major (if not majority) Igbo presence in its ownership structure Notice how the Buhari gov’t has put the breaks on SEPLATs attempts to buy the onshore assets of MOBIL (i think it’s MOBIL), and industry players are still scratching their heads at this obvious anti-Nigerian position of the gov’t! Their actions stand in stark contrast to how they’re falling over themselves to support and prop up Dangote and his businesses! Few months back, 5G licences were sold to coys in the telecommunications sector. MTN was one of the successful bidders….as was expected! What wasn’t expected was that a newly formed coy will emerge from nowhere and be able to garner the required funds and expertise to be able to ‘win’ their bid as well…purportedly presenting a ‘better’ bid than GLO! When i say these people are positioning themselves to take over and control the entire commanding heights of the Nigerian economy, this is what i mean! Also, few months back, Union Bank was taken over by a newly formed little finance coy that doesn’t even have the assets to buy out such a large bank as Union! I don’t have my facts on this, but i’ll wager the ruling hegemony were in the shadows calling the shots! Remember, they control a lot of sectors, but they’re yet to own/control a FIRST TIER BANK! The rest of Nigeria are either to trusting and naive to realise what these people are up to….or they’ve just resigned themselves to be 2nd class citizens in their own country so long as the ‘okoros’ are getting a worse deal! |

TWoods: There aren't actually that many national airlines in existence, and most developed nations don't have them, so you're talking rubbish. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_government-owned_airlines There is no 'set formula' for forming an airline. It all depends on meeting the interests of all stakeholders. |

This project is neither feasible nor viable given current events both in the aviation sector and globally. 1. We can't afford to borrow unless they want to use it to loot the loans proposed. 2. Its in USD and you will be billing in a depreciating Naira. 3. All spares are imported 4. Aviation fuel is scarce presently 5. Aviation fuel is presently costly and Airlines are approaching the peak they can charge for a one hour flight or average of six hour flight globally. 6. If its a level playing field then Passengers are not expecting any form of subsidy as that is over with in most sectors. 7. Since this looks more like national pride and advertisement than service. You can advertise on the bodies of existing commercial airlines. 1 Like |

Quintopia: This is a silly comeback... borne out of obduracy than anything else. A nation with the wealth like Nigeria should not be starting an entire flag carrier with 3 aircraft, all of which are going to be leased. Hadi Sirika has been telling us, in his capacity as aviation minister, that the government is set to launch Nigeria Air since 2017. 5 years after, all we are expecting is 3 lease aircraft? Reading Sirika's briefing yesterday makes you want to weep in sorrow for Nigeria... it is abundantly clear that he has no clue what he is talking about... read along: “We have said in our outline business case, which was earlier approved, that we are starting with three aircraft for the first instance and then we progress. Why 3 aircraft? Capacity? Routes? We will have a mixture of Airbus and Boeings because every airline that will grow big uses the two,” he said. This shows the horrific incompetence of a man who has been our aviation minister for more than 4 years with nothing to show for it. Someone remind him that not every airline "that will grow big" uses Boeing or Airbus. Many regional airlines in the US have a fleet that is largely made up of Embraer aircraft. Mr Sirika said Nigeria Air will start with domestic flights before expanding to international routes. No kidding... what did he expect? “We will start with domestic flights and then we grow to become international and then we move to become regional and intercontinental. This takes the cake... if you fly Lagos to New York, you've technically flown both international and intercontinental. Flying regional assumes flying to neighboring African countries... well that's the same thing as flying international. Alhaji Sirika has no business shepherding a government agency in charge of developing an airline. On Wednesday, the FEC also approved N707. 9 million for the procurement of investigation tools for Nigeria’s Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB). Perhaps Alhaji Sirika has never heard that all aircraft carry 2 black boxes? How was this guy ever appointed a minister of anything? 2 Likes |

TWoods: Your own 'point' is based on nothing but foolish ego and 'prestige', as is usual with most nairalanders steeped in shallowness, rather than common sense and rationality. So for you it is ''How can a nation with the wealth of Nigeria blah blah blah''. WHAT WEALTH? Our annual budget is 35 billion dollars for 200 million people. Contrast that with the US annual budget of 7.6 trillion dollars for only a slightly larger population. Or the UK's 2.2 trillion annual budget for its 70 million people. Or France's 1.9 trillion. So what ''wealth'' are you talking about? The oil and gas income is a pittance set against our needs. It will be foolhardy and extremely profligate for a govt with such a tiny budget to expend the money on commercial aircraft purchases where there are other options, and it will never meet senate approval. So they start by leasing 3 aircraft and move on from there, in a public/private partnership arrangement where private investors are the main funders, and earnings from their initial operations can fund expansion. That is the rational, sensible option. |

9jaRealist: The airline is a private sector - led operation, so the govt is not competing with anyone. Instead of wasting money on a VANITY national airline, designate private airlines as flag carriers. Easy to type that from your basement. What happens if they fall short of acceptable standards? They will be flying our flag and disgracing us abi? The current arrangement - a public-private partnership based national carrier, is the ideal approach going forward. |
