michaellek: I've no idea how the NHS recruitment process works, but where I work (and generally, I would think), when we take on people who were previously self-employed we take up professional references. No point asking a self-employed person for employer references. If you stated on your employment form that you were self-employed, the background screening agency will ask you for contact details of persons who can verify your previous self-employment, which would mean former clients, etc. |

Lexusgs430: Lol... The way it is phrased does give room for misunderstanding. This is what I think she meant: She is self-employed and probably got an offer with the NHS. Now she needs to provide reference letters covering 3years. The way the NHS recruitment is set up, you need to provide companies and direct contact that you have worked with in the past, but as self employed, there lies her dilemma 1 Like 1 Share |

You shouldn't need employer's reference, rather it should be professional references. Not sure of NHS, but typically HR should/would request appropriately if you've indicated self employed. Also, link to your portfolio page, verifiable online, would be supportive of the professional: this is over and above. Inbtw, there're different levels of self-employed: hence putting some structures in one business might assists with brand, client, outlook, growth. michaellek: |

rinzylee:.. Also try buying from a dealer. With private sale, once you drive away that's it. You'd have very little recourse if anything pops up unless the seller grossly misrepresented things 1 Like |

rinzylee: At some point in the 80s and 90s virtually every Nigerian family that could afford a car had a 504 or a 505, depending, so that's not saying much. As an aside, I once owned a 508, which I think is quite a lovely car, but note that Peugeot doesn't have a stellar reputation in this country (it was successfully demarketed after the 407, 607, and some other not good cars), so the resale value of Peugeots is quite low. On the other hand, purchasing an equivalent Peugeot car is usually somewhat lower than same year/class cars of other brands and Peugeots sometimes have as standard features that more expensive cars have as options. 3 Likes 1 Share |

rinzylee: Just google secondhand car dealers in your area, or use Gumtree and set a filter to "trade" which should exclude cars not sold by dealers in your area. Or eBay. However, with your budget, you're less likely to find cars from dealers ready to honor anything at that price point, most likely east European garages, and if you go down that route, you are no different from someone who bought from a private seller. |
