Serious enquire here, I’ve heard people say that your Nigerian license is valid for one year counting from the day you enter the UK. I went up on the website and it says we can drive for 1 year and then apply for a license. I’m not sure if I’m reading the information incorrectly. I want to get a car ASAP so I can start getting acquainted with driving on the left hand side and I have till September before my "12 months" is up, that’s if the former is correct. Based on the attached, does it mean that it’s valid for 1 year of you driving or? I don’t even understand.

OgbeniOptional: Methinks banks should be allowed to convert naira to fx easily for walk in customers. Eg I need dollars to pay for an exam in the US, I walk into gtb, give the naira value, and collect dollar value in my dollar account and transfer. Banks shld be allowed to do bdc operations, then no body will need black market or aboki. 3 Likes |

Amarathripple0: It means you can drive legally for 1 year from the date of your entry before you are required to have a UK license. So you can go ahead and buy a car now. It will actually help you get familiar on your own terms. But by September when you clock 1 year, you must acquire a local license in order to drive legally. 1 Like |

hustla: I cant point to the improvement, but it is on my credit report as an account. I got the contract in feb, the first time I checked my score was in April. I want to know if upgrading to phone contract will have a positive impact on the long run, or the effect is same as Sim only

Elektra008:You need BRP to open a lemonade account in UK. For your situation, open a pounds account with any Nigerian bank, use naira to buy pounds form aboki and deposit it in your pounds account. It's the same as using lemonade because lemonade use black market rate too. |

Elektra008:Banks have limited supply of FX, nothing to convert. I used fuel as a case study earlier, just like saying filling stations should be allowed to sell fuel freely, na filling station wey get fuel go sell na. Nigeria does not have products that earn her forex besides oil. 5 Likes |

kingdred: You're usually not credit-checked for a sim-only contract, while you will be for a phone contract as they're giving you a new phone which you will pay for in instalments and that's a loan. If you feel you can afford a phone contract, sometimes its better to walk into a shop and talk to the sales staff there instead of applying online and leaving your fate to the automated decision-making computer-says-no process. |

TheGuyFromHR: Thanks. There is an option with vodafone to upgrade from sim only contract to phone after months with them. This upgrade is showing on my dashboard, I had a chat with their online customer care and visited the physical shop, they both confirmed I can make the upgrade. I am more concern on positive influence on my credit score, My question is: will upgrading to phone contract assist in building my credit score, or it makes no difference on credit score compared to sim only contract I am presently on? Yes I need the phone but if the vodafone phone contract won't influence a significant increase, I will rather use my AMEX card. |
