Let's say China shoots down Pelosi's plane. If the US decides to go to war it means they will have to come to China's backyard to fight. Considering the fact that China has a home advantage meaning little logistics challenges, and a good military, the possibility of the US losing that war is high. Even the US knows they can lose against China in China's backyard. It's only against weak militaries that the US can travel several miles to another region and fight and win. Fighting wars far away from your home soil will be a challenge against more powerful militaries because of logistics.

Victory depends on the location of conflict. If the US is coming to the Chinese home region to fight then China has an upper hand due to home advantage and China wouldn't face any logistics problem as the US would. The US travelling thousands of miles to fight in another region only works for weak countries like Iraq and Afghanistan. For powerful militaries this will not too work well for the US.
