I quite agree with you that he owes no one any apology. That's why I classified it as empty and useless.

Most times, it's not about being convicted and paying the penalty. Its about the intent.

What was Rufai looking for in a BRT Lane? He clearly broke the law, and to make it worse, was trying to bully the officer. Because he knew the governor, he was trying to bully the policeman...The very same thing our politicians and people in authority do.

Person never get constitutional power, e don dey shout "Do you know who I am"?

The apology is useless, my brother. He's no different from the people he's warning us about on TV

There’s a reason why there are punishments stated in the criminal code for offenses committed . His apology is only meant for people who expected better behavior from him ( and these are objective members of the public , not politicians and their apologists who will always see him as an enemy cos of the job he does ) .

Penalties are there for u to learn ur lesson and desist from such acts .

Nigerians sometimes earlier this year bought adulterated fuel that was imported into the country under the supervision of a government owned agency . Has anybody been apologized to for having their engines knocked by the bad fuel , talk more of getting compensated ?

Rufai has done the right thing in tendering apology for his reckless behavior despite serving his punishment ……. Anybody that wants an apology that is not empty should fill up the apology for him

for context - does this look like a BRT lane?

this is one of the shared pictures

no concrete divider, no single yellow strip, no BRT written at intervaks

I have been trying to figure the particular place this could be, and Yes, that looks like a BRT Lane

If you go to Ikorodu Road, especially from Mile 12 to Ikorodu roundabout, they have their BRT lanes in the middle.

Both BRT lanes are in the middle. So yes, it looks like a BRT lane

Nigerian police officers can be quite annoying. Rufai claimed they pulled their gun on him and knowing policemen for what they are, that's definitely their character. You pull a gun on a man for a civil offence, it's two things, you either humble him or bring out the beast in him, can't fault Rufai for coming out guns blazing himself.

abeg let us call it what it is - a traffic offense. unless you have actually killed someone, i do not believe this falls into the classification of a crime, much as our men in black and the preening authority figures like to imply it is.

this is one of the shared pictures

Well he has himself to blame for the negative publicity sha. Most common Nigerians would’ve sorted those guys and bounce without the whole scene he caused .

I’ve said it here before , Lagos is a jungle where those task force guys are predators looking for ignorant road users to prey on. Oshodi Oke is a case in point ; u see yellow commercial buses dropping passengers and carrying more passengers on the bridge ….. In fact buses going to Mile 2, Orile and Cele Express load their buses on the bridge ( as we speak u can go there and confirm this ) . The task force/LASTMA team are right there and would not dare arrrest them for obstructing traffic , but the moment u as a private car owner drop a colleague u assisted at that same place u will be hounded by the task force guys and their touts with guns being flashed at ur face . The least U will pay is 30k for an offence yellow buses are committing right in ur front grin

I can't say how many driving hours I have in Lagos, but I have never been caught on a BRT, because I don't use it. This is different from parking at unauthorised places or Traffic light wahala

The lane is very clear. Don't use it. So what was Rufai's car doing on it? It definitely must be juju

And then he came on Twitter to say he wanted to pay the fine and the officer was trying to collect his key... grin

Why won't they collect you key? Is the officer supposed to collect the money on behalf of the government?

If the government apologizes it means they are taking responsibility for their wrong doing ; yes that’s meaningful at least to someone like me .

It’s a starting point , as against the total disregard for the people whom u were elected to serve
Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by Theflint1(m): 11:43am On Aug 03, 2022
Simple, his crime was not settling the issue on the spot. I'm sure he'd have tried proving right or insisting due process is followed which means the money does not go to them and that's why the issue got escalated. The normal thing with these riff raffs na to squeeze 5k or 7k enter their hand and you'd go your way. These guys take advantage of faulty road designs and traffic signs to extort drivers, sometimes they even allow/trick drivers into committing crimes so they can extort them. grin

i would very likely have fallen into this trap as well.

all the BRT lanes i have come across either

1) have a divider
2) have a thick yellow unbroken strip
3) have a BRT stamped at intervals on the road
4) are a single lane

this looks like the opportunistic task force scheming to catch unsuspecting drivers.

Okay....Maybe to you.

Someone clearly imported adulterated fuel. That's an intentional act. So any apology is just empty.

You have done it, mopped your profits and then give me the Sorry to pacify myself.

Funnily enough, Ikorodu Road was the first Expressway to have the BRT

That's the first model of the BRT lane, and while it may look confusing, it is very clear to understand.

This picture doesn't tell the full story. They have signs and markings to differentiate the lanes

They do this shiiit wella on Lagos Island roads and Yaba axis where u have so many one-way roads. They even have touts who disguise as by passers who would assure u the road is not one-way when u consult them as a newbie on those roads. The moment u take the bait, u will just see them appear from nowhere struggling with u on the steering.

In Lagos traffic officers and police officers do not arrest u to correct u, but to extort u. The same BRT lanes they gloat over, Navy , Army and airforce personnels ply them without any hassles.

Well , we will never know Rufai's state of mind as at the time he was arrested, but one thing is sure; if he had settled like most people do he would not have been in the mess he is. I'm guessing probably he saw other vehicles ahead of him who risked it and they were successful in passing the same BRT lane; maybe he wasn't that lucky and that infuriated him and made him start name-dropping the governor.

I remember a day my guy was driving and we were headed to UNILAG axis, while on that Jibowu bridge we could see the traffic to Yaba was massive....while at the end of that bridge there's a one-way that leads to that university road. One woman driving ahead of us just took a detour and followed the one-way to beat the traffic(The funny thing about that road is once u drive for less than 30 seconds the road is no longer one-way) ...For reasons best known to those LASTMA guys at the junction they allowed the woman, so my friend followed and those LASTMA guys picked up that iron they carry that's full of thorns to block and arrest us.. My guy just accelerated and the LASTMA guy jumped out of the way in an instant ( I was shocked cos It all happened in an instant)

Now imagine if the LASTMA guy had been successful in arresting my guy, I'm sure he will be upset they allowed the woman ahead of us while he's used as scapegoat. I won't rule out the same scenario for Rufai's case

Amoto94 you will just wake up in the morning & choose to be tribalistic , while at it forgetting part of your sense. Did you read what you posted over again , maybe try again slowly. Does it make sense to you ?
Till date in the east , the sit at home on Monday's is now a norm ; I wonder for what cause and who is that for. UGM still operate but thanks to the Nigerian force, not at the rate they used to.
That you believe in a cause doesn't mean the country shouldn't function again. I'm yet to support any candidate but what stops your candidate from hoping from church to church or mosque to mosque to show his hypocrisy. Our beliefs is what define us & I weep for people who follow u or believe in you. be a Human first before promoting your propagandas.

LASTMA and those taskforce are a menace. How do you begin to even reorient those that are supposed to uphold the law but will rather collect bribe from some to look the other way and pounce on some?

Selective punishment for the same crime. Nigerians are a special breed.
