Kerosene and diesel enjoy full deregulation. No subsidies on them.
If pms is fully deregulated today, the price will be in the same ballpark.

Who are these people defending absurdity, where were they when kerosene was N50 and petrol was N65? When a government has no economic plan, looking for every avenue to take from the people, the government knows petrol is a no go area, decides to put it on kerosene and gas, therefore inflicting the pain on the common man.

That's because Kerosene is not only used in houses, its also used by planes as aviation fuel or jet fuel, thereby creating an increase in daily demand with limited supply, hence the high cost.
Secondly kero is more denser( heavier) than petrol and more refined than diesel, making the cost of production way more expensive than both.

Isn't aviation fuel different from Kerosene?
Ok even if plane fly with kerosene is still not a reason for the price skyrocketing

kerosene and petrol were about same price back them, how manage the sudden rise in production cost and petrol production cost still remain the same.

God bless you. I'm surprised Nigerians dont research. Ive tried to educate people on several valuable use of Kero beyond domestic cooking, back then when I was at the Depot, even Government value Kero more than anything. A typical importer might not be able to import kero more than once or twice a year and same importer brings in PMS and AGO 3 times a week.

And at every point Kero is discharged through our cargo line, it's a matter 2 hours or less, you just must see NNPC barge anchoring around the jetty waiting for the Kero vessel to disembark for it to batt and load same kero.

Kerosene known as DPK is same product treated as ATK and used for all aircraft and airplanes to move.

Kerosene has more value than PMS and it is responsible for high cost of aviation tickets in Nigeria today. There is high demand for Kero because many importers dont bring in Kero due to high cost of maintenance on it's storage.

STORAGE AND MAINTENANCE
As an importer, everytime you bring in Kero, you start preparing to receive it like a week before it arrives which is unlike bringing in other white products.

There is a process of evacuation which involves opening of man holes on both sides, providing kits for maintenance team to go into the tanks that has concealed over 10 million PMS for over 6 years with PMS still in there..

We used to dress fully kitted with oxygen gas bottles on our back, with high pressure jets capable of throwing 5 adults off their feet.

God forbid you miss your step and your gas cylinder or mask goes of, before you crawl your way back to the Manhole, you might have give up the ghost.

So, on average, importers spend about 6 Million for storage of DPK. And the process takes a whole week which is not so in PMS and AGO

We dedicate tanks for various products. But not in a case of DPK that you bring in just once in 4 years. In that case, whenever you are bringing in DPK, you must do thorough evacuation which would even make you lose about 8000 litres of the initial product, make you contract evacuation and proper venting of the tank, and wait for DPR to come and confirm and sign that the tank is safe for storage.

There's greater demand for kerosene. There are fewer users of petrol because there are fewer car owners and generator owners, so the demand for it, especially when compared with the demand for kerosene, is relatively low.

Only about 10% of Nigerians use petrol, whereas over 60% use kerosene, mostly for cooking.

That can't be the reason, going by your statistics there have always been more demand for kerosene right from time and the price was as low as or a little above petrol price back then

The real reason Kerosene is expensive is because it's the raw material for jet fuel.

Helicopters use Kerosene as fuel too.

Jet fuel is made from the Futher breakdown of Kerosene.

So Kerosene used for cooking is competing with Jets and Helicopters thus the high price.

Is helicopter and jet jus started to use this kerosene
Aint they been using all along

Mr. Chemist, more dense gini! You just wrote rubbish. The simple answer is that there's a subsidy on petrol. Price has nothing to do with being dense or light but on the cost of crude oil and the value of the dollar in Naira because petroleum products are priced in dollars.

My brother, thanks for educating them. Kero is almost the same as Jet fuel. Nigeria cannot remove subsidy on diesel and pay subsidy on Jet fuel. It is the removal of subsidy on Kero and cost of production that makes Kero expensive.

Most of the times, people don't know what is happening. Those making money from subsidies instigate the masses to fight government against subsidy removal because of their interest. The corruption in subsidy payment and the fact that the rich though very few in number benefit more than the poor under subsidy regime makes its removal imperative.

This kero has always been used for cooking and as aviation fuel when the price was relative low, like a little above the price of petrol is its not new,

Why the sudden price skyrocketing?

Answer: Because Nigeria is not a normal Country.

It's because fuel is subsidized by the federal government... fuel subsidy is paid on fuel... if not we will be buying fuel for 1000 naira per litre

In 2013, kerosene was deregulated. That means that government no longer pays a subsidy for the product specifically...meaning that kerosene price is set by the market directly.

Petrol has not been deregulated. As such, government has NNPC sell petrol to the market at a price below the cost of production and transport, and pays a subsidy to cover the resulting loss. Sometimes government removes part of the money from the subsidy if the cost gets too much...meaning that the price of petrol rises accordingly , or increases it a bit.

Kerosine follows the price of diesel because it’s used to make diesel. The right mixture of condemn engine oil and kerosine will give you fake diesel. Ever wonder why condemn engine oil is in high demand?

It’s also used as JET A1 fuel and also for other industrial uses. Kerosine will always follow the price of diesel cos the point one above.

The form of kerosene used as aviation fuel is different, it goes through one more round of distillation and has anti flash additives and antifreeze added to it to make it more stable for high altitude and jet turbine operation..
