MURIC Kicks Against planned Return Of Oyo Schools To Missionaries. by HappyRabbi: 5:26pm On Aug 05, 2022 |
It is arbitrary, a betrayal of trust and a most provocative move. An Islamic organisation, the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has kicked against the decision of Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State to return schools to missionaries. While describing the decision which was reportedly announced on Thursday, as the most unwise, audacious and insensitive move, the Islamic group asked the governor to prepare to quit the Government House by 2023. MURIC in a statement issued on Friday, by its Director, Professor Ishaq Akintola, and made available to SaharaReporters, accused the governor of acting a script written by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN). Akintola said Governor Makinde's decision smacked of betrayal of trust coming at a time Muslim liberation struggle in the state was at its peak. "It is time for Oyo Muslims to decide whether they want freedom or slavery. Those who do not respect and preserve our spiritual heritage must not be allowed to rule us. Makinde must not be allowed to stay in Agodi Government House a day beyond 29th May, 2023," he said. The group opposed the government’s decision, describing the schools as a common patrimony of Oyo State people. "He cannot give them out just like that after government has spent billions of Oyo State taxpayers' money on adding more, renovating, purchasing equipment and maintaining the infrastructure, paying teachers' salaries, etc. for more than 50 years." The statement further reads: "Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State yesterday announced his plan to return public schools to missionaries. We receive this announcement with a pinch of salt. It is a blow below the belt. It is arbitrary, a betrayal of trust and a most provocative move. Coming at a time Muslim liberation struggle is at its peak, the move is most unwise, audacious and insensitive. It had better not be. Makinde should perish the thought. "The governor is acting the script written by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN). It will fail. Those schools are our common patrimony. "The idea is to perpetuate the suppression of Muslim children in public schools by claiming that the schools belong to missionaries. These are neo-imperialists seeking all means to remain relevant, powerful and dominant. "Yet the so-called missionary schools were built on land belonging to our Muslim forefathers who were deceived by the Christian colonialists into giving out the land 'gratis' in most cases. Apart from the land which was given free, our Muslim forefathers also paid tax into the coffers of the colonialists to build the schools. Nobody should try to pull the wool over our eyes. "The difference between the colonial government and the missionaries is like six and half dozen. Peter was robbed to pay Paul. The colonialists collected our hard-earned money and gave the missionaries. "It was the mother of all treacheries when the colonialists gave the schools missionary names after completing the buildings. Not only that, they turned round to bite the finger that fed them by rejecting Muslim children who refused to change their names to Christian nomenclatures. Majority of the Muslims had to succumb. Thus Abdul Rasheed became Richard, Yusuf became Joseph, Ishaq became Isaac and Maryam became Mary. "Anybody who observes theytrajectory of Makinde's administration will know that he came with the sole agenda of subjugating Muslims in Oyo State to the whims and caprices of CAN. But the Muslims of Oyo State will resist this with every legitimate means at their disposal. "There must be consequences for irresponsible and reckless leadership. There will be peaceful rallies and protests until Makinde rescinds his decision. The Muslim youths in the state have taken Makinde's plan to return schools to missionaries as a confrontation. Already, the Muslim Students Society of Nigeria (MSSN) has fired the first salvo. Makinde has miscalculated. He assumes that his very few contract-seeking Muslim business partners control the Muslim community of Oyo State. He will soon know the truth. "Makinde is in the habit of snatching from the Muslims what belongs to them. Yet he wants Muslims in the state to continue to cooperate with his administration. He lives in self-delusion with his divide et impera as he hoodwinks an infinitesimal minority of Muslim dealers and ignores the real Muslim leaders. With this ill-advised announcement, he has betrayed those few stomach-infrastructure Muslim dealers who always claimed they needed to be near the governor. "Makinde will soon know his fate. Muslims will teach him an electoral lesson. We expect Oyo governors to take a cue from what happened to Bola Ige in 1983. Nobody plays with Muslim interest in Oyo State and gets away with it. "Makinde started by toying with the Hijrah holiday which his Muslim predecessor (ex-governor Ajimobi) gave us. He also refused to issue any circular on hijab to date. He marooned his Muslim deputy governor for three good years until the latter was eventually impeached and replaced with a Muslim-by-name deputy. Seyi Makinde's anti-Muslim agenda cannot stomach the idea of a genuine Muslim deputy governor

This fool again… No media institution gives this man attention except Nairaland. So it’s safe to say that MURIC is Nairaland creation and it won’t be long before this trash hits front page. This headslammer consistently stands against noble decisions as long as he doesn’t find it Islamic. When Peter Obi became governor in Anambra, the state was coming 26th after every WAEC exams. He came in and handed schools back to missionaries who originally owned these schools and efficiency was enthroned in the running of the schools which took Anambra to number one. So, before you listen to this fool, there’s nothing wrong in handing schools over to missionaries. 6 Likes 1 Share |

Lol when you don’t build your own institutions you're left at the mercy of you're perceived socio-political rivals. You guys sat your hands 50 years with nothing to show that's pathetic. This is why you shouldn't support cronyism/corporatism in the first place. Let private institutions be private institutions and keep your tax naira. The state never bought the school so you're out luck it seems. 5 Likes |

Apart from the land which was given free, our Muslim forefathers also paid tax into the coffers of the colonialists to build the schools. Nobody should try to pull the wool over our eyes”. Confused people. The lands belonged to their Muslim forefathers. So by inference, there were no idol worshippers who owned lands then, even if there were no Christians by the man’s warped calculation. Who has pulled the wool over the man’s eyes, if not the man himself. Now it is no longer the people of the SE who took over their lands. It is now the missionaries, helped by Muslim owners of the lands themselves. One cannot but wonder how reckless and irresponsible this MURIC fellow gets with his choice of words on religious and political matters. Before governments took over missionary schools, the schools belonged to Christian and Muslim organizations and they co-habited peacefully. Christians attended Islamic schools happily and vice versa. No student was made to renounce his/her faith. None was unjustly treated. If state governments feel that they cannot bear the burden anymore, it is only appropriate to return the schools to their original owners, irrespective of religious inclination. This country has been so dangerously divided by politicians, aided by the likes of this Muric man. As has been stated several times, Nigeria is ripe to break up peacefully. I sincerely hope that this country will not have to experience a catastrophic war before the politicians allow everyone to go their separate ways. 5 Likes |

Any state that wants to return schools back to their rightful owner I support 100percent. Let the government face it's own school headlong. While making government schools totally free and at par with private schools. This will go a long way in indirectly telling the citizens to reduce their childbirth rate when they know the government isn't handing out goodies again. One school has already been returned in Oyo to the Old students association and he will do more when he wins second term. Rumours says he is planning to return all schools to their original owners The original owners will do better and the rate of education will improve with the government also investing much in their own schools too Muric can keep on blabbing 2 Likes |

Are these Muslim people that can not accept returning of missionary schools to their rightful owners that will allow christian-christian ticket in Nigeria political space? When Christians were busy building schools, Muslims were building poverty, they were only concerned about marrying multiple wives and breeding children in poverty like rats. If Muslims think they contribute via taxes to build Christian missionaries, did Christians and idol worshipers not also contribute via taxes for their owns. They are just trouble makers, they should go and raise funds to build their own schools. They always like to serve people what they can never accept themselves 2 Likes |

Hope Yoruba Christians and Traditionalists are paying attention to this. This are the people that tell you "we are one Yoruba." Notice how they are slowly destroying your heritage, claiming you were Muslims before converting to Christianity. Yet, all your legends and warriors had no muslim names; none of the gods have Muslim names neither the ancient towns. You can see that this people are agents of destruction, working to destroy your heritage and make you slave to Arabs. |
