Moshkom can you help review this pls?

Hello Nairalanders
Cc
@Chibertha, Moshkom, Ummzayd e.t.c

I’m back in the house again…I was away for about 4months scouting for interview appointments date (One of the most difficult processes) in getting a student’s visa. Fortunately, I was able to secure a date yesterday which is too close to my class start date

Please help me review this on how to structure what to tell the VO during my interview

[Here is the thing:

My Orientation Program date :- 13th August 2022 (Will definitely miss as I haven’t gone for interview yet)

Visa Interview Date :- 18th August, 2022

Class start date :- 22nd August, 2022 (Will miss as passport/visa will still be in process with embassy, which usually takes about 3 to 5 business days to process) – Worst case scenario 25th to 26th to receive before final arrival date.

The remarks section on my I-20 says this:

‘’Tuition, fees and insurance subject to change without notice. Tuition fees /expenses for 9 months(fall/spring). Missing international programming in mid-August could delay course registration. To maintain F-1 status, student must register and enroll full-time (Minimum 9 credit hours for graduate students). Must arrive before last day to schedule classes: August 30, 2022’’

Can visa officers use the close class start date and missing orientation as a yardstick to refuse a visa , irrespective of the fact that I have an extension in the remarks section above till the 30st to arrive?

Please what is the best statement/words to convince them to cover the missing orientation date and first week of class? . The school doesn’t have issues with my resumption after the 22nd of August, 2022 till the 30th.

Need your input guys …please, Ejowo oo, Don Allah, Biko. Thank y’all!

Question # 2
How do I change my intended travel date / tentative travel on DS-160 and update my appointment profile on CGI to reflect same? Please, note that I have already submitted my DS-160 (Reason: It was submitted cos I used it to apply for EA, which was eventually denied).
Any step-by-step guide will be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys!

Moshkom:

August 30 for interview for Spring session is VERY OK. Shoot!!!

Yeah.

Yellow Paper first then you’d come pick your passport when it’s within 120days of resumption. Just pick a DHL collection location near you.

Hey everyone,
Please need your feedback on the below
Visa Denied ❌❌❌
First Attempt
COA: $54,000
Deficit: $40,000
Location: Lagos

VO: good morning, pass me your visa and I-20
VO: tell me your plans to study actuarial science.
VO: Actually, it’s MS Business Analytics, actuarial science is the general name. I am currently a senior finance manager where my role involves analysis and drawing insights from data to support decisions. This degree would help me become more technical in my role and be able to draw more insights and add more value to my company.
VO: how do you plan to finance this program
Me: I have a number of sources, personal savings, loan from Mpower $24,000 and the scholarship and some support from my family. (My dad is on there as a suppose with $4,500).
VO: who is Bleep to you. He is my father, he’ll be sponsoring a part of the program.
VO: do you have a relation in the US.
Me: Yes I do, my brother is a Legal Permanent Resident currently who is working with A big four, he has worked with two big four but currently with one of them as a senior reporting accountant.
VO: what do you do for work?
I am currently a s manager of finance where I suppose c-level executives in decision support by analyzing large data sets and supporting strategic decision. I am looking to become more technical in my role which is why I am going for an Analytics Degree instead of of an MBA. The analytics degree will give me the experience needed to be a subject matter expert in my field.
VO: I’m sorry you don’t qualify for a visa at this time…

What I noticed is when I started explaining how I will fund the Degree, when I started with personal savings she had a serious look and took a second look at my I-20.

Please what could I be missing here

I think you had a good reply to her questions. But the issue I see here is funding.. you have to work on the funding part. - it appears a bit disjointed: 4500 from dad, 24k MPOWER Loan, a bit here and there.

You know one thing about US visa, there are many factors that could convince a visa officer to grant a visa. From the onset of the interview, visa officers view every applicant as a potential migrant unless convinced otherwise. Forget that thing about open mind... their mind is closed until your circumstance convinces them to open up and take a look at your situation. There are many factors that could convince an officer to issue a white: good funding, working at a top tier firm, rich and popular dad, relevant course of study, appearing intelligent, good looks, and believe this -good vibes etc..

Try again, bro.

- FOR THE DATE TALK

Most VOs works with CLASS STATE DATE. It’s highly advisable for your interview to be 10-14 days away from your Class Start date.

And it’s only few VOs that extension letters sits well with. They hardly want to check docs. They 9/10 times believes only your i20 details should be work with not any external docs.

- FOR THE DS160 RETRIEVAL

Go to the DS160 access site. Fill in your details
(location and Confirmation number) Simply select
"Retrieve An Application", then "create a new
application"
You'd be able to access the old DS160. Just that this
time, you'd get a new *Confirmation Number*. Make
the necessary adjustments and submit when you're
sure you're done. Then proceed to the CGIfederal
website, login and navigate to
"Update Profile"
Erase your old confirmation number and replace it
with the new one

Good Luck Champ!

You are right. I sent them email about waiving application fee and TOEFL test, and here's their response...

We would be happy to grant you a fee waiver! All we need is your CAS ID located at the top right of your application.

In regards to a TOEFL waiver, we will need your transcripts that show that English was the primary language of instruction.

Please, which school is this?

July 25th
Visa approved
2nd attempt
Abuja Embassy
School: Oklahoma City Community College

So my situation is a bit unique. This is actually my 2nd semester in school. I was already in the US for a master’s degree in healthcare administration. After my master’s degree, I got into a nursing degree in a community college, which is an associate degree. I needed to come visit my family during the summer break but that means I will need to renew my visa to be able to re-enter the US (big risk but I had to). I got to Nigeria and went for my interview on June 2nd in Abuja. I was denied by the white lady with straight blonde hair. I was devastated but I summoned courage, joined a WhatsApp group and got another date for July 25th at Abuja embassy.
Here’s how the interview went
VO: I can see I was the one who interviewed you before, please go to the next window for your interview.
Me: okay thank you.

The other VO (also a white lady black hair): Have you been to the US before?

Me: Yes I have. I completed a master’s degree in healthcare administration.

VO: So why are you going for an associate degree after a master’s degree?

Me: Well, at the end of my master’s degree, I came back to Nigeria to interview for a clinic administrative position at a teaching hospital but the qualifications for the role include a masters in healthcare admin and also a nursing degree. I have the master’s degree but I needed a nursing degree to secure this position. So I went back to the US to complete my OPT and before the end of my OPT I was able to get into a nursing program.

VO: (typing in her computer and nodding) so what is your plan after your nursing program?

Me: I will be back to Nigeria, I’ll register for the nursing licensing exam here, get my license and take up the clinic administrative position at their pediatric clinic. I also just lost my dad, I have inheritance here. Businesses, properties that I’m now in charge of. This is actually the reason why I came back home for the long holiday to supervise everything. (I was trying to establish my ties at this point).

VO: kept tying…. Okay everything looks good, I’ll be approving your visa. Take this paper it will instruct you on how to get your passport.

Me: thank you.
Let me just say this, I have been on this forum reading comments about the tiny possibilities of getting a visa to a community college. Yes your chances are slim but it really depends on a lot of things. In my case, while I have a master’s degree, it was important that a gave a valid reason as to why I am pursuing an associate degree. Your home ties is also important. I was really naive during my first interview, I thought since I had already started my program, they will just easily renew my visa. I will say just prepare very well before the interview. Most importantly pray! I prayed, cried like never before. I asked God for grace and favor and He answered.

So how do you survive over there without working?

Cos even if you have a little savings from Nigeria, you would probably need to still work when you get there, I believe.

Fully funded with stipend + if you have time, you apply for different scholarships. Internships too dey. Na how some of us dey survive be that
